What Is Wing Chun?

• A martial arts style

• Developed in 17th century southern China specifically for women by two women– Focuses on technique, speed and finesse over raw

strength

The Core Of Wing Chun: The Six Forms

• Six forms include all of Wing Chun's techniques• "The Little Idea"

– Foundation of the other forms– Focus on the independent movement of each side of the body and

the development of the "centre line"

• "Sinking bridges"– Using the hips as a power source– Learning how to absorb ("sink") attacks– Developing kicking techniques

• "Spearing fingers"– Learning offensive techniques– The most physically demanding form

The Core Of Wing Chun: The Six Forms (Continued)

• "Six-and-a-half point staff"– Strength development and muscle toning (triceps) through

the techniques of the long staff

• "The wooden man"– Developing exacting hand positions – Conditioning (toughening) of the limbs to allow for more

effective defence

• "Eight point knife"– For additional strength and toning – The final Wing Chung form
