Baker was born in Lumberton on August 12, 1937 to the late Melvin and Annie McNeill Baker. He had been a resident of Winston-Salem for thirty-six years. He was a member of the Assemble of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith Church and a retired employee of the city of Winston-Salem. ^5" He is survive<Lby his wife, Mary Helen Baker of the home; a daughter, Linda K. He was a former member of the Friendship Baptist Church and a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served in World War n. He was a seasonal worker at the Export Leaf Tobacco Com¬ pany and the R.J. He occasionally attended Union Baptist Church and was employed with Clayton Mobile Homes. He is survived by his wife, Lillie M. He was a native and lifelong resident of Winston- Salem and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by two sons, Derrick Jackson and Donald Jackson, both of the city; a daughter, Lavonia Moses of the city; four grandchildren; two sisters, Carrie Jones Lewis of Highland Park, Ml. and Delphine Faulk of'Chicago, 111.; devoted nieces, Mozelle Eldridge and Claudette Culbreath of the city; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Jones of the city; 13 nieces; seven nephews; a devoted friend, Lydia Jane Jackson of the city; and a host of other relatives and friends. Samuels was a member of the Macedonia True Vine Pentecostal Holi¬ ness Church of God, Inc. where he served ^n the Securi¬ ty Task Force and was a former member of the senior choir. He was a graduate of Atkins High School and a retired employee of Winston-Salem State University. He was united in holy matrimony in December 1984 to Car¬ rie L. Stubbs, He is survived by: his wife, Carrie S. SMITH John Thomas Smith, known to his family and friends as "Buddy," of Route 4, Box 532, Highway 67, East Bend, passed away Jan. 1 1 at Forsyth Memorial Hospi¬ tal. He was born on May 9, 1920 to the late Rev. Thomas Albert and Mary Armstrong Smith in East Ben. He attended the public schools of Yadkin County. He was employed by Chatham Manufacturing of Elkin for six years. He retired from AT&T after twenty-three years of service. Buddy was a faithful members of Benbow Chapel AME Zion Church in East Bend. He attended church as long as his health allowed him. He was a good friend to everyone he met. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Elsie Spease Smith of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeny and Paulette Stimpson of Durham; a brother, Paul (Bessie) Smith of East Bend; two sisters; Almeter (S«fm) Puryear of Tobaccoville and Willie Mae (I.G.) MaSsey of East Bend; two grnadchildren, Jennifer Stimpson of Durh^fi and Morris Stimpson of Greensboro; a devoted niece, Thomasine (Willie) Malloy of the city; a host of otheiLrelatives including two sisters-in-law, Eula Smith and Hilda Cain Smith, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. TODD Isaac William Todd, of 3844 Barkwood Dr., died Jan. 12, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Born on September 15, 1951 he was a native of Wrin- ston-Salem and a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church where he served on the usher board. He was a ^graduate of the Atkins High School Class of 1970 and was employed with the State of North Carolina. Depart¬ ment of Motor Vehicles. He is survived by his wife, Addie R. Hewas employed by Chatham Manufacturing of Elkin forsix years. He retired from AT&T after twenty-three yearsof service. Buddy was a faithful members of BenbowChapel AME Zion Church in East Bend. He attendedchurch as long as his health allowed him. He was a goodfriend to everyone he met.
