Life insurance can be a tool with many purposes. It is used as a means of financial protection for your family in the event something happens to you or your spouse. But what about when your needs change; how can you use those life insurance policies to work for you? Donating it to a charitable cause is one way to get the most out of your life insurance!

Three ways to arrange this gift:

1. Give an Existing Policy: Nominating our organization as the policy owner will allow you to receive an immediate income tax charitable deduction for the lower of the policy’s fair market value or your cost basis.

2. Retain Ownership of an Existing Policy with a Revocable Gift: You can keep ownership of your policy for your own financial security and that of others, while still benefiting our organization at a future date.

3. Create a New Policy for Future Gifts: A new policy can be entered into with our organization as the beneficiary.

Please allow us the opportunity to maximize your life through our work. We are happy to answer any of your questions regarding charitable giving. Feel free to call us at no obligation.

Mary Ann Hamilton, 2009 President of the Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary, presented a gift of $86,679.05 to John Grossmeier, President and CEO of Hannibal Regional Hospital and Wendy Harrington, President and CEO of Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation, at the monthly Auxiliary Luncheon held December 21st at Quality Inn. This completes the Auxiliary’s pledge of $500,000.00 to the Hannibal Regional Hospital Cardiovascular Institute.

This generous gift from the Auxiliary has been designated to put towards further development of the Hannibal Regional Hospital Cardiovascular Institute. The Cardiovascular Institute provides the finest in technologically advanced cardiac care to area residents with modern cardiac procedures such as angioplasty and stenting. Among the special diagnostic studies and procedures are cardiac catheterizations, echocardiograms, holter monitoring, nuclear stress testing, pacemaker placement and management, and vascular ultrasounds. Mr. John Grossmeier remarked, “This donation makes a tremendous difference on the hospital’s ability to provide advanced cardiac care capabilities to the residents of our region. We are about to start another year of continued growth thanks to the Auxiliary’s commitment to Hannibal Regional Hospital. The Auxiliary’s efforts are sincerely appreciated.” Members of the Auxiliary donate approximately 22,000 hours each year to support Hannibal Regional Hospital. They provide volunteers throughout the organization and coordinate multiple fund-raising

events throughout each year. Volunteers assist with guest services at the Information Desk, surgery waiting rooms and help in various departments at the hospital and the James E. Cary Cancer Center. Their fund raising events include operating two gift shops, hosting bake sales, salad luncheons, new and used book sales, jewelry sales, art sales, uniform sales, and many other projects. The Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary has donated over $2.3 million to hospital projects. Wendy Harrington, CEO and President of the Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation commented on the Auxilians, “We are truly blessed by the dedication and commitment the Auxiliary demonstrates year after year. Their energy and tireless efforts to support the Hospital are inspiring to us all, and we can never thank them enough for all they do.” For more information or to join Hannibal Regional Hospital’s Auxiliary, call Volunteer Services at 573-248-5272.

Missouri Foundation For Health Grant AwardedHannibal Regional Hospital and Hannibal Regional Medical Group were recently awarded funding from the Missouri Foundation for Health in the amount of $193,511 in support of their Rural Health Access Program. Hannibal Regional Medical Group will be able to use these funds to develop the provision of specialty services in its designated rural health clinics in Canton, Monroe City and Shelbina.

“Hannibal Regional Hospital has been providing primary care services to the communities of Canton, Monroe City and Shelbina for the past eighteen years. With the formation of Hannibal Regional Medical Group in 2007, in addition to primary care, our organization has been able to continue to meet the community’s need for healthcare services by recruiting specialty physicians to Hannibal,” stated John C. Grossmeier, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hannibal Regional Hospital. “The grant funds from the Missouri Foundation for Health will assist us in the expansion of specialty physician practices and offer more convenient care to patients seeking services at these rural health clinics.”

All three locations will be providing the specialty services of Cardiology, Allergy/Immunology, Podiatry and Mental Health. In addition, the Monroe City location will have the capabilities to provide Optometry services with the expansion of the Vision Institute to that location. Hannibal Regional Medical Group will introduce these new services to the rural communities by July 2010.

Wendy Harrington, President – Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation commented, “Hannibal Regional Hospital realizes the strain that travel can sometimes put on patients and their families. We would like to thank Missouri Foundation for Health for partnering with us to provide valuable healthcare services for our patients and families in these rural communities.”

For more information about this program or other specialty services offered by Hannibal Regional Medical Group, please call 573-629-3400 or toll free at 888-426-6425. Information can also be found at www.hannibalregionalmedicalgroup.org. Funding for this project was provided in part by the Missouri Foundation for Health. The Missouri Foundation for Health is a philanthropic organization whose vision is to improve the health of the people in the communities it serves.

Cornerstone SocietyHannibal Regional Hospital Foundation would like to thank our most loyal donors, Cornerstone Society Members. The advances that have been made in healthcare in this region would not be possible without your compassionate and generous giving. Thank you for opening your hearts for the patients and families that we serve in Northeast Missouri.

Foundation NewsAn individual is never truly gone until forgotten. Let us help you keep their memory alive by creating an individual memorial to honor the life of your loved one. Memorials are a wonderful way to pay tribute to the lives of our loved ones. The Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation is committed to offering meaningful and convenient ways for families and friends to honor loved ones. Memorials can be directed to a special service, such as the James E. Cary Cancer Center, or can be directed to fund endowments or expansion projects.

Your gift is a tribute to the important role the individual played in your life. It can establish a permanent link with the past and encourages others to participate in a vision for the future.

Here are a few ways to make a memorial donation:

• Online: Log on to www.hrhf.org and select “Memorials.” A convenient online giving system allows friends and family members to pay tribute and direct memorials to a variety of programs.

• Mail: Memorial envelopes provided by our local funeral homes can be directed towards Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation. Envelopes are also available through the Foundation, as well as a memorial form online at www.hrhf.org.

• Phone: Memorials can be made over the phone, via credit card. Call the Foundation at 573.629.3577 to offer memorials.

• In Person: The Foundation welcomes memorials, which can be accepted at the Foundation office, located at 175 Shinn Lane (behind the Vision Institute).

Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation has successfully completed the Mending Broken Hearts Campaign.
