Winter 2012 The 5 th Annual Toasts for Tails Wine Tasting and Silent Auction held on Saturday, November 12 at the Lacey Community Center was a great success! Over 600 people came out to support us, checked out over 300 auction items, tasted local wines and beer, and enjoyed delicious gour- met chocolates and cuisine! Thanks to the incredible support of our sponsors, auction donors, volunteers and attendees, CFA raised almost $40,000 to benefit the welfare of animals in the Thurston, Mason and Lewis Counties. A big thank-you to Rick's Auto Repair and Bark Ave for using their location for presale tickets and drop-off locations. Congratulations to Dr. Kelly Garberson, our veterinarian from South Bay Veterinary Hospital, who won the diamond! The proceeds from Toasts for Tails are responsible for about a quarter of our annual budget, which funds thou- sands of medical expenses, spay/neuter program, pet food bank, adoption and much more. We thank everyone who came out to support us including our wonderful sponsors and donors. Hope we see you again next year!

HAPPY TAILS A SU C C E S S ST ORY

“We first saw Lily for adoption at PetSmart® on April 24, 2010; when we went in to pet her, I in-stantly fell in love and couldn't stop thinking about her, but knew that my partner might not be so intrigued by the idea of another cat, being we already had two. I went back into Petsmart on May 28, 2010 and noticed Lily was still there. I instantly started to get tears in my eyes and went to pet her. I was still in love and couldn't understand why she was still there. I inquired about adopting her and came to find out that Lily had been adopted with one of her babies and for some reason had been returned.

I knew I couldn't let her stay in that cage anymore. So, with tears rolling down my eyes, I filled out

the adoption paper work; went home and got a cat carrier, came back and took my Lily home. My partner who works nights came home and could tell something was "up". He soon found Lily. Not sure what to think at first, he soon came to love her just as much as I do. She is one of the best cats ever! Thank you so much for our Lily! She is the most precious cat - I call her my Precious Princess!”

(Note: CFA’s adoption program through PetSmart® was suspended in 2011 but we’re hoping to work with them again in 2012!)

Janey Hanson will be hosting a Tastefully Simple and Glitter Bug Gold Party on January 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to raise funds for CFA. The party will take place at our new location, 1414 State Ave-nue, Olympia. Come see the home of our future office and have a great time checking out the wonderful and yummy Tastefully Simple products. Almost everyone has old, gold jewellery they either haven’t worn in a long time, or pieces that are broken and can’t wear anymore. An earring without a match, tangled or broken necklaces, a gold crown your dentist removed and gave back to you, or gifts from old boy-friends or girlfriends that aren't appropriate to wear anymore. Bring them to our Glitter Bug Gold Party and you and CFA will walk away with a nice check. To RSVP or for more information, please contact Janey at [email protected] or 456-8176.

You’re Invited to a Party!

This holiday season there are many ways to give a gift and enrich the lives of those pets that aren’t a part of your family. In the spirit of the holidays, here are just a few ways: Gift Certificates Looking for the puurrrfect stocking stuffer? ‘Tis the season to think of others including our fury friends! Give the gift that is worth giving and will last for a very long time – a gift certificate to CFA from various stores such as PetSmart®, Petco®, Home Depot®, Lowes® or any other store that will benefit Concern for Animals. We’ll even send a card to the recipient notifying them you sent such a thoughtful gift in their name! Holiday Food Bank Drive Our Food Drive is happening now until Christmas Eve! Your holi-day charitable contribution will help hundreds of pets. You can drop off pet food or supplies every Monday in December from 4:15-4:45 p.m. at our Pet Food Bank, located to the right of Rick's Auto Repair, 3531 Pacific Avenue (right behind Phyl's Furniture). Items needed—cat treats, toys, cat litter, canned cat and dog food, dry dog and cat food If these times don't work with your schedule, but you would like to make a holiday food donation, please contact us at 456-8176 or [email protected] and we’ll schedule another time to meet you. Thank you! Volunteer CFA is always looking for volunteers with a wide range of skills and experience. We often need volunteers to help with special events, like Toasts for Tails, and renovation projects at our new office, located at 1414 State Avenue, Olympia. Once you’re on our volunteer list, we’ll also send frequent email communications about our needs and events.

HOLIDAY G IFT GIVING

Staying Connected Have you changed your email address recently? Haven’t been receiving emails from us? Please don’t forget to notify us of your email address so we can keep our data base current. Email is

our preferred, cost-effective way of communicating with members and volunteers, so don’t miss out on the chance to hear all about our activi-ties in 2012. And you can receive our quarterly newsletter faster and in full color via email, which will also save CFA a lot of money! To notify us of any changes or to add your email address, contact JoAnne at [email protected]. Let’s stay connected.

One Saturday after-noon in late Novem-ber, our office man-ager, JoAnne, got a call from Yelm Vet-erinary Hospital be-cause someone had found a litter of 5 kittens "in the woods." Did she have room to take them in? No, not

really, but how could she say no?! The four-week-old kitties were delivered to her in a cardboard box in the trunk of a car and brought to the CFA office where they were immediately well taken care of with only the love and attention JoAnne shows to all her own cats. JoAnne named the four brown ones—Eenie, Meenie, Minie and Mo; and named the black one Sister. A little later in the evening, she placed Sister next to Socks (a mom cat nursing her own two kittens) just to see what would happen. Socks began washing her and cuddling with Sister. Then she slowly added the four brown ones. Socks is now washing everyone and feeding anyone who says they are hungry. For more information about ADOPTING one of these well-fed and beautiful cats, please visit www.petfinder.com/shelters/WA446.html and call JoAnne at 456-8176.
