Justice in Oregon: The Case for

Public Safety

Monday, January 13th

7-8:30 PM

Friendly House

Suggested donation $5.00

Cassandra Villanueva and Alison Kavanagh from the Partnership for

Safety and Justice will be holding a talk at Friendly House called "Justice

in Oregon: The Case for Needed Changes". It starts with examining

mass incarceration in broad strokes, then focuses in on Oregon and

what the Partnership for Safety and Justice believes needs to be done to

create safer communities and a more fair, effective, and humane public

safety system. Please join us in considering the grave errors in our

state's justice system, and in re-imagining public safety in Oregon.

About the Partnership for Safety and Justice

The Partnership for Safety and Justice strives to ensure Oregon’s

approach to public safety is based on the principles of safety, prevention,

accountability, healing, rehabilitation, and justice. They believe it is time

for a more effective and fiscally responsible approach to public safety –

an approach that focuses on prevention, curbs the unsustainable growth

of our prison system, invests in evidence-based programs that are

proven to reduce crime and save money, and strengthens support

systems and services for crime survivors. They maintain that crime and

public safety are complicated social issues and we need smart solutions

not oversimplified approaches promoted by fear or frustration.

About Cassandra Villanueva

Cassandra re-joined Partnership for Safety and Justice staff as the

Director of Organizing and Advocacy in early 2012 after serving

previous roles within PSJ over the last decade. Her in-depth experience

as former staff, board member and youth coalition partner exemplifies

her long-standing commitment and dedication to the mission and values

of PSJ. Otherwise, Cassandra has worked for Service Employees

International Union (SEIU), National Council of La Raza (NCLR), Salem-

Keizer Coalition for Equality, Mano

a Mano Family Center, CAUSA

Immigrant Rights Coalition, Pineros

y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste

(PCUN), Voz Hispana and the

Oregon State Legislature. She is

also the chair of the board at
