The importance of yourcooling systemDo you realize that 30% of the energy the engine in your piece of equipment generates is lost as heat through your cooling system?

It is for this reason that maintenance of the cooling system is critical for long and trouble free operation.Winter is a good time of the year to catch up on those jobs that get neglected through the busy parts of the year.

Coolant has a finite life and should be tested on a regular basis.

Coolant not only provides the medium of which heat is transferred from the engine to the atmosphere it also has additives that protect the metals found in modern engines along with the seal in the water pump. Without these additives corrosion, electrolysis and sludge build up are a big possibility. Test strips are available that when used will indicate the level of additives that are still available in the coolant. If the results show low levels of additives, conditioner can be added to bring the coolant back to a safe level for operation.

Along with the coolant, the radiator, fan, fan belt and coolant hoses also play a big part in keeping temperature in the optimal range.

Your radiator should be cleaned on a regular basis so that the external cores are free from debris, grass seeds and oil residue to promote good air flow. The belts need to be checked for cracks and tension. If the belts are running low in the pulley grooves it may be time to replace them and on high hour applications maybe also the pulleys. If the hoses look swollen or perished there is a high chance of them bursting at the most inconvenient time resulting in downtime or even worse, engine damage.

All Solomix 2 mixer feeder wagons are equipped with 2 mixing augers, long-lasting auger bearings and stable auger bases, which are supported by a solid chassis. Andrew Hart and Nick Duigan are the larrikins behind one of Australia’s favourite fishing shows – Hook, Line & Sinker. Whether it’s chasing deep blue sports fish or crabbing in the mangroves, the boys never come home empty handed. It’s fair to say that on the surface, my life isn’t your average gig. Yes, there are days where we live the dream, chasing fish and visiting some amazing places – but at the end of the day, it’s our livelihood – and a job we take very seriously.

What I have learnt over the years is that when you’re on the job, especially one like ours that sees plenty of time behind the wheel – with your gear in tow – you need to know you have the right vehicle on hand to get you to your destina-tion safely and in comfort – without having to take out a loan for your fuel bill!
