Arbor Green PRO ® ’s gradual, slow-release formulation strengthens the root system to make landscape plants more vigorous and resistant to damaging diseases, insects and drought conditions. The slower, controlled release rate leads to more uniform growth, a lower risk of leaching and improved efficiency of nutrient absorption. It also has a low salt index to prevent burning of delicate roots, which means that even the most sensitive trees and shrubs (such as those under stress from drought) can be fertilized. Did you know healthy trees which have been regularly maintained are better prepared to withstand severe weather?

One of the best ways to preserve your landscape and reduce risk is by having an arborist inspect your trees and shrubs regularly. These inspections represent a proactive approach to tree and shrub care, rather than a reactive one.

DIFFERENCECORRECTWRONG

Much Ado About MulchMan may be a dog’s best friend, but a newly planted tree’s best friend is mulch. Why? Mulching not only adds visual appeal to your landscape, but it also helps protect trees.

Surrounding the tree’s base with a 1 to 3-inch depth of mulch:• Insulates the soil helping to provide a buffer from heat and cold• Retains water to help keep roots moist• Keeps weeds out to help prevent root competition• Reduces lawn mower damage to a tree’s trunk

Remember, never place mulch closer than 2 to 3 inches from the trunk to prevent rotting.

Spring is a great time to get outside and reacquaint your tree with its best friend.

The excess mulch can be used to cover and protect at least three additional trees. Over-mulching is costly, both for the material and the price you pay when correcting the damage it causes to trees and shrubs.

At Davey, not only are we committed to keeping your trees healthy, but we’re also dedicated to protecting and preserving our environment. The materials used to produce this newsletter are FSC® certifi ed. FSC certifi cation guarantees that products come from well-managed forests and other responsible sources.
