2016 University Club Tennis Awards

awesome event celebrating a wonderful and successful
year of tennis and fun!
New Year’s Resolutions are thought to be a world-wide tradition with about ½ of the US population
making resolutions. Consider that the top 3 resolutions year-in and year-out tend to be dieting or to eat
healthier, to exercise more and to lose weight. We have the programs at the UClub to help you if these
are some of your goals. As noted in other sections of this newsletter, our group fitness programs begin a
new 15-week series the first week of January. We offer classes on Saturday through Wednesday and have
a range of programs including dance, yoga, boot camp, boxing, and Zumba during the winter months and
classes in aqua fit and water aerobics when the pool opens in May. And on Saturday, January 7, we have
a Family Fitness Frenzy that will introduce you to the instructors, and give you the opportunity to
observe briefly the different programs available. Let the new year be a part of your new life-style and let
your club be your go-to source for success!
Elsewhere in this newsletter, we have detailed the slight fee increases as approved by the board of
directors at its November board meeting. The 2.7% dues increase ($6 per month) is minimal considering
the usual club operational increases your club incurs each year, such as, the 29% increase for employee
health insurance coverages in 2016. Please be assured that your club management and board of directors
is cognizant of our member’s needs and that we do all that we can to make sure your club financial
experience is valuable and worthwhile.
As in past years, we will begin a membership drive January 1 with a reduced initiation fee of $250 for
alumni members and a $0 initiation for faculty/staff members. If the person has 9 academic credit hours
they meet the criteria for alumni. We have a new-member bounty which pays great financial dividends
for you as a member since you get $20 off your dues each month for one-year for each alumni member
recruited and $40 off monthly also for one-year for each faculty/staff recruit. We have some members
who had multiple recruits last year and enjoy a substantial financial savings each month. A much higher
initiation fee is in place for those not eligible to join as alumni or faculty/staff. They might qualify as
Friends of the University Club and if approved by 9 of the board of director members can join for $4500.
We are limited to 5% of our total membership in this category and currently have one place open.
Also, as noted in other sections of the newsletter, club-logo apparel and other items are still available
from our on-line catalog. These items are member-charged or can be purchased by check or credit card
and are available by contacting Allison, our Communications and Marketing Director at
[email protected]. Some items are in stock such as the stemmed and stemless wine glasses, wine
openers and wine stoppers, and 30 oz. Glacier tumblers and some must be ordered. We have single items
available from $5 to $45 and $88 for a set of 6 wine glasses.
As we go into 2017, please let me know if you have ideas, concerns or suggestions that will make your
club experience more enjoyable.
