“HAPPY NEW YEAR 4-H FAMILY”
Dear 4-H’ers: I hope you had a nice Christmas and New Year Holiday. I hope that you got into the Holiday Spirit by giving to someone who was in need or any kind gesture. That is what the Holiday Season is all about, “The GIFT OF GIVING”. What is your New Year’s Resolution? I hope it is to get more involved in 4-H and “TO MAKE (yourself) THE BEST BETTER”. If you think about it, a resolution is simply a goal. Strive to achieve that goal whatever it may be. Are one of your goals, by chance, “to try new things?” Discover other 4-H clubs, activities, and events below to become involved in for 2017!

4-H SHOOTING SPORTS NEWS
Don’t forget 4-H Shooting Sports will begin again soon!
The time has come for us to begin prepar-
ing for the upcoming year. I believe that
this will be an exciting year for our 4-H
Shooting Sports program. As you already
know, this program would not be success-
ful without individuals like you.
As we begin preparation, I would like for volunteers and club members to meet at the Jefferson Davis County Extension Office on February 2, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. A parent and the child who wishes to participate must attend this meeting in order to begin practice. Youth must be 8 as of January 1, 2017, in order to par-ticipate. Please remember that all participants are required to complete 8 hours of training each year in each discipline in which they are going to complete. Thus, for a 4H’er to compete in 3 disciplines, he/she must have completed 24 hours of instruction. In addition, before the district event, youth must have participat-ed in at least one competition identical to that of the district dis-cipline(s) in which they are going to complete.
This meeting will kick-off the start to a great year for our Shooting Sports Club!
4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Certification Workshop
The next 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer Leader Training Workshop will be held on Friday and Saturday, February 17-18, 2017, at the Pontotoc County Extension Office in Pontotoc, Mississippi. You must be at least 21 years of age and be enrolled as a registered volunteer in Jefferson Davis County. You can complete certification is one of the follow-ing disciplines: Pistol, Rifle, Muzzleloader, Archery, Shotgun, Hunting or Coordinator. You must participate for the dura-tion to receive certification for the discipline chosen. The training begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 17, and ends at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017. The regis-tration cost is $100.00 per person. This covers the cost of meals and snacks at break times (both days), workshop ma-terials, training equipment and ammunition. You will pay this fee at the registration desk on the first day of the train-ing.
Make checks payable to MSU-ES 4-H. Once you receive your certificate, call the Jefferson Davis County Extension Service Office and let us know, and we will have the check written to reimburse you. You will then bring in your certificate and pick up your check. If you are interested in participating or need more information, call the Jefferson Davis County Ex-tension Service Office at 601-792-5121 by Friday, February 3, 2017.
