Biological hazardsImportant: Experiments with genetically modified, pathogenic, and alien organisms
need to be registered in Switzerland.
PSI can only handle organisms of biosafety levels 1 and 2.
Experiments with animals need a permission.
Standards: PSI: AW-96-14-02e
The federal law “Ordinance on Handling Organisms in Contained Systems” rules the handling of biological material in Switzerland.

Important Lifting and attaching loads is dangerous and requires special training!
Cranes < 1000 kg rated capacity can be operated by instructed personal. Without the corresponding official instruction, any crane operation is strictly forbidden.
Operating cranes with a capacity > 1000 kg needs a special crane driving license. Please contact a corresponding service person.

Radiation Safety
Important: During your stay at PSI you might be exposed to ionizing radiation.
These places are located within controlled areas that are explicitly labeled.
Within the controlled areas special guidelines must be complied with by everybody, in particular, those displayed at the entrances to zones must be followed.
Standards: PSI: AW-23-96-13

Leaving a controlled area
When leaving a controlled area you must make use of the monitors to check for potential contamination.
19.04.23PSI, Seite 39
QuestionWhat is needed before taking out items from a controlled area?
You call a staff member from the Operational Radiation Protection Section (Betriebsstrahlenschutz) to carry out the control measurement.
If no activation or contamination is expected you are free to remove the material without further check.
You carry out the control measurement by yourself and take the items along.
19.04.23PSI, Seite 41
This is correct !
Please call a staff member from the Operational Radiation Protection Section (Betriebsstrahlenschutz) to carry out the control measurement.
These persons are also available if you need any further assistance concerning radiation protection at PSI.
