Abstract
The researchers design a wired and wireless network at a certain internet bandwidth. The
computer network is design for thirty wired computers and thirty wireless computers. In which
allows the each user to be able to have an equivalent amount of internet bandwidth. It maximizes
and enhances the researchers’ knowledge in the computer network design.
The researchers have focused on the costs used in the given desktop computers and
laptop computers in order to and that intend to design a computer network. Using book
references, the researchers are able to design a non-complex computer network design for
gaming purposes. The study is to show how the researchers were able to design a computer
network about data communications.

Chapter I
Introduction
Data communications is the exchange of data between two devices via some form of
transmission medium such as a cable like computer networking. Computer networks allow
people and machines to communicate, using a number of services. An implied but worthwhile
description of the uses of computer networks might be as the sharing of hardware for example,
several PCs might be networked together in a wired or wireless local area network or LAN to
share a printer and sharing of information for distributed databases, e-mail, the World Wide Web
and so on are examples of this. Here the sharing involves both LANs and wide area networks or
WANs, especially the latter.
In many homes, twisted-pair Ethernet cables are often used to connect computers. Phone
or cable TV lines in turn connect the home LAN to the Internet Service Provider (ISP). ISPs,
larger schools and businesses often stack their computer equipment in racks, and they use a mix
of different kinds of cable to join this equipment to LANs and to the Internet. Much of the
Internet uses high-speed fiber optic cable to send traffic long distances underground, but twisted
pair and coaxial cable can also be used for leased lines and in more remote areas. While wireless
network refers to any type of computer network that is not connected by cables of any kind. It is
a method by which homes, telecommunications networks and enterprise or business installations
avoid the costly process of introducing cables into a building, or as a connection between various
equipment locations. Wireless telecommunications networks are generally implemented and
administered using radio communication. This implementation takes place at the physical level
layer of the OSI model network structure. 4
Most networks use hubs to connect computers together. A large network may connect
thousands of computers and other devices together. A wireless network connects computers
without a hub or network cables. Computers use radio communications to send data between
each other.
Objectives of the Study
The objectives of this project are to design a wired and wireless network at a certain
internet bandwidth.
General Objective:
Design a network with 30 wired computers and 30 wireless computers.
This research study has the following objectives that are bulleted as the researcher’s specific
objectives.
Specific Objectives:
Management of Internet Bandwidth.
Fast Internet for Gaming Purpose.
Proper Arrangement of Computers.
To be Aware of the Basic Networking Terminology and Computer Network.

Chapter II
Conceptual Framework
Review on a Computer Network:
A computer network comprises the following components:
A minimum of at least 30 computers
Cables that connect the computers to each other, although wireless communication is becoming
more common.
A network interface device on each computer and this is called a network interface card.
A switch used to switch the data from one point to another. Hubs are outdated and are little
used for new installations.
Network operating system software.

Computer Networking Devices:
Modem is a contraction of the terms modulator and demodulator. Modems perform a
simple function: They translate digital signals from a computer into analog signals that can travel
across conventional phone lines. The modem modulates the signal at the sending end and
demodulates at the receiving end.
Routers are an increasingly common sight in any network environment, from a small home
office that uses one to connect to an Internet service provider or ISP to a corporate environment
where racks of routers manage data communication with remote sites. By examining data as it
arrives, the router can determine the destination address for the data; then, by using tables of
defined routes, the router determines the best way for the data to continue its journey. This
approach makes routers more functional than bridges or switches, and it also makes them more
complex because they have to work harder to determine the information.
Hubs are simple network devices, and their simplicity is reflected in their low cost. Small
hubs with four or five ports with the requisite cables, they provide everything needed to create a
small network. Hubs with more ports are available for networks that require greater capacity.
Switch looks much like a hub. Despite their similar appearance, switches are far more
efficient than hubs and are far more desirable for today’s network environments.

Chapter III
Design of the Study
This research used basic components of wired and wireless computer networks such as
Internet Service Provider or ISP, modems, routers, wireless adapters, laptops and desktop
computers.
Materials Used:
Internet Service Provider or ISP is the company that the subscribers pay a monthly fee to
in order to use the Internet. If the subscribers use a dial-up modem to connect to the subscriber
ISP, a point-to-point protocol or PPP connection is established with another modem on the ISP's
end. That modem connects to one of the ISP's routers, which routes subscribers to the Internet
backbone. From there, the subscribers can access information from anywhere around the world.
Digital Subscribers Line and cable modems work the same way, except after the subscribers
connect the first time, the subscribers are always connected. In order to connect to the Internet,
the subscribers need an ISP.
Modems are actually short for Modulator and Demodulator. A modem is a
communications device that can be either internal or external to the user’s computer. It allows
one computer to connect another computer and transfer data over telephone lines. The original
dial-up modems are becoming obsolete because of their slow speeds and are being replaced by
the much faster cable and Digital Subscribers Line modems.
8
Router is a hardware device that routes data from a local area network or LAN to another
network connection. A router acts like a coin sorting machine, allowing only authorized
machines to connect to other computer systems. Most routers also keep log files about the local
network activity.
Wireless Adopters is a network interface controller which connects to a computer
network rather than a wire-based network such as or Ethernet. Wireless range may be
substantially affected by objects in the way of the signal and by the quality of the antenna.
Laptop units can impede a wireless network signal.
In order to subscribe all wired and wireless computers, the researcher’s routers appoints
each laptops and desktop computers a Internet Protocol or IP addresses.
Appointment of IP Addresses:
Internet Protocol or IP address is a code made up of numbers separated by three
dots that identifies a particular computer on the Internet. Every computer, whether it be a Web
server requires an IP address to connect to the Internet. The subscriber Internet Service Provider
or ISP will assign the subscriber either a static IP address which is always the same or a dynamic
IP address, which changes every time you log on. Routers used by the researchers to appoint
each laptops and desktop computers it own IP addresses.
9
Quality of Service (QoS):
The quality of service (QoS) refers to computer networks that allow the transport of
internet bandwidth with special requirements. The term, Quality of Service can identify the type
of data in a data packet and so divide the packets into traffic classes that can be prioritized for
forwarding. The main benefits of a QoS-aware network include the ability to prioritize traffic to
allow critical flows to be served before flows with lesser priority, and greater reliability in a
network by controlling the amount of bandwidth an application may use and thus controlling
bandwidth competition between applications. It is often regarded as critical and requires low
latency, is a typical case where QoS can be used to guarantee fast responses to movement
requests. The prerequisite for the use of QoS within a video network is that all switches, routers
and network video products must support QoS.

MSI has started selling a new gaming laptop, the MSI GT70 Dragon Edition. The MSI
GT70 Dragon Edition gaming laptop is powered by an Intel Core 3rd-generation quad-core
processor paired, GeForce GTX 675MX discrete graphics, 4GB of GDDR5, up to 32GB of
RAM and 1.5TB hard drive.
New MSI GT70 Dragon Edition has a 17.3-inch LED-backlit display and resolution of
1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD), Blu-ray drive, LAN Killer DoubleShot (Killer Wireless-N 1202
and Killer E2200), Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0 port, HDMI, eSATA, webcam and multi-channel
audio. It is pre-loaded with Windows 8 operating system. Weighing 3.9 kg, its dimensions are
428 x 288 x 55 mm.
Computer Setup for Gaming:
PC Case
(RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB)
For a mid-tower, there is plenty of space and a lot of expansion
drive bays (4 x 5.25” external, 2 x 3.5” external and 4 x 3.5” internal).
16
It's a beautiful PC case, and a very sturdy one: it's made with 1.0mm thick SECC steel, so it's
safe to handle (case material won't bend easily) and move around (like to a LAN party). The side
panels can be easily removed for easy component installations, upgrades and cleaning. There are
also plenty of fans to keep everything cool inside.
Processor
(AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad-Core Processor)
The researchers previous recommendation was for the AMD
Athlon which is currently out of stock. A wonderful alternative is the
AMD Phenom. The Phenom II rivals Intel's current best line of desktop
CPU's. Enjoy high level quad-core gaming and energy efficiency all
rolled into one
Motherboard
(ASRock 970 EXTREME3)
Coming from the budget line of ASUS motherboards, you can
rest assured that this motherboard provides excellent quality,
performance and value.
Hard Disk Drive:
(Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB)
Sure there are drives with much larger data capacities than this
drive, but what's really important for gaming is performance and
reliability - this SATA 6.0Gb/s 7200 RPM drive delivers big time on
both aspects. For the price, you still get a lot if space though - plenty
17
enough to install all your favorite games. Purchasing a 6 Gb drive now to make sure your
computer is capatible with the newest motherboards and chips.
Memory
(G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240 Pin DDR3)
With games having ever higher CPU requirements, the last
thing you want to do is to keep your CPU waiting because of a slow
memory module. Those lost fractions of seconds can spell the
difference between victory and defeat. The G.Skill Value Series offers
a very cost effective solution. This is a dual channel kit, which is an
absolute minimum when building a gaming PC.
DVD Burner
(HP 24X Multiformat DVD Burner)
Although game downloads are gaining popularity, most games
are still distributed on CDs and DVDs, so you will need a fast and
reliable DVD drive like this HP to install and play your games
Video Card
(ASUS ENGT430/DI/1GD3(LP) GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB)
This Video Card is an example of technology getting better
while prices fall. This card supports the DirectX 11 and OpenGL 4.0
APIs, so you'll be able to play the most recent games with it.
Supporting a resolution of up to 2560x1600, this card can show your
18
game on even the biggest HDTVs and monitors out there. Increasing the resolution however
means harder work for the video card; you will have to turn down the game settings accordingly
to avoid getting choppy framerates.
Audio Card
(ASUS Xonar DSX 7.1 Audio Card)
The ASUS line of audio cards brings affordable, high quality
surround sound to your PC. Combines DTS Connect technology with
the ASUS-exclusive GX 2.5 gaming audio engine for an ideal sound
card for gamers. As is the case with video, audio processing tasks need
to be delegated to a card with its own processor for optimal
performance, because it will take workload off the CPU.
Power Supply
(Antec BP550 Plus 550W)
Antec has a long standing reputation of making rock solid power
supplies, and this one is no exception. For our budget gaming PC,
550W of power is plenty enough. The included active PFC will give
your PC components cleaner, more stable energy. Unneeded wires can
19
be disconnected from this power supply, since it is a modular model. Doing so will leave more
space in your case and increase airflow, helping keep your PC case temperature cool. The
120mm fan also helps in that regard, by quietly but effectively sucking warm air out of the case
and sending it out through the mesh grill in the back.
Cost of the Network Design:
The total cost of the case and its installed components is $581.91, which the researchers
believe that it is very affordable considering the researchers did not skimp on quality or features
for any component. If you need help assembling your PC, here's a great, step by step guide with
pictures. In the next and final article of this series, find out which items I selected to complete
this budget gaming PC setup.
