Summer Music Institute
Monday, June 18 – Friday, June 29, 2018 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Refine your skills, get a jump start on the next school year, or find out which instrument or style is right for you at our
two-week music camp! Summer Music Institute is for students of all experience levels and musical abilities. Explore
different styles and instruments with friends in “electives” throughout the camp with the amazing faculty from
Milwaukee High School of the Arts and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. At the end of the camp, all students will
participate in a final showcase for family and friends.
No experience required.
Parents are responsible for transporting students daily to the Milwaukee High School of the Arts
(2300 W. Highland Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53233).
Camps are open to currently enrolled MPS students and City of Milwaukee residents.
Grades
3 – 5 Sing in our children’s choir and try out woodwind, brass, string, and percussion instruments with instrument explorations! Choose “electives” such as world drumming, guitar, piano, or music theater to fill the rest of your morning. Young string players can participate in elementary orchestra! All instruments are provided. No experience required.
Grades
6 – 12 Rehearse and perform in band, orchestra, or choir with faculty from the Milwaukee High School of the Arts and Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Then take guitar, piano, jazz improvisation, music theater, chamber music, or world drumming! All instruments provided, but feel free to bring your own if applicable. One-year experience required for band or orchestra; no experience required for choir.

Required medications
If the student requires medication, I understand that I am obligated to ensure that the medication is provided and the Medication Authorization Form is on file with the Extended Learning Opportunities office. (If ordered by the student’s physician, an EpiPen must be provided each day.) I can obtain the form on the MPS website or at my child’s school.
Statement of Permission and Release of Liability Permission: I understand, as parent/legal guardian of the above-named child, that there are times when the local news media, national news media, and/or nonprofit organizations partnering with Milwaukee Public Schools requests the opportunity to videotape, take photographs, and/or interview children within the Milwaukee Public Schools. By signing this, I understand that and give permission for MPS to allow this with respect to my child. Release: I also understand that by signing this release I give permission to the Milwaukee Public Schools to make or use pictures, slides, digital images, or other reproductions of me, of my minor child, or of materials owned by me or my child, and to put the finished pictures, slides, or images to use without compensation in broadcast productions, publications, on the Web, or other printed or electronic materials related to the role and function of Milwaukee Public Schools. I understand that by signing this, I am, on behalf of myself and my child, releasing MPS and its directors, officers, employees, and agents from any future claims as well as from any liability arising from the use of any photograph or other images. This form shall be valid for the entire summer program and can be revoked by the parent/legal guardian at any time in writing.
