With an eventful first half of Term 3 now behind us, the
coming weeks promise to be equally as action-packed,
with a plethora of academic, sporting and cultural op-
portunities on the horizon.
This week’s Book Fair and Character Parade was yet
another wonderful example of our dedicated and en-
thusiastic Primary school community coming together
to celebrate our magnificent cohort of students. I’m
sure those who were in attendance would agree that
the character parade proved to be one of the true high-
lights of the year, with a standing room only audience
being treated to an astonishing display of extraordinary
costumes and animated students, passionately adopt-
ing the role of their favourite book characters. The
amazing atmosphere during the parade was emblem-
atic of the positive vibe throughout the Primary school
this term.
In addition to thanking students, parents, carers,
grandparents and our wonderful Primary staff for going
above and beyond to ensure the success of the char-
acter parade, I would sincerely like to thank the mem-
bers of the College P&F for their efforts in running the
Book Fair on the day. There is little doubt that the en-
tire College community truly appreciates the time and
energy you all put into making MVAC a better place.
You are indeed an incredible force working tirelessly to
support the continual advancement of our fine school.
In the wake of recent sporting successes at HRIS Ath-
letics, Champion of Champions Futsal, and HRIS Net-
ball and Football, our attention now turns to more
scholarly pursuits, with Tournament of Minds and HRIS
Debating rapidly approaching. These challenging
events provide those students who relish the oppor-
tunity to engage in intellectual warfare, the opportunity
to flex their academic muscles. Thank you to Mr Sand-
ers and Mrs Kennedy for the lengths to which you have
both gone in preparing these teams for their pending
battles.
Have a brilliant weekend!
Mr Neil MacAulay, Head of Primary
TRIAL HSC: The Trial HSC Examinations for Year 12 started today with English, and will continue for all of next week and part of the week after. These examinations reflect the length and style of question that the HSC Exams will be in Oc-tober with most exams being 3 hours in length. Please pray for our Year 12 students as they go through this stressful, but beneficial and rewarding time. EXTRA CURRICULAR: The Extra Curricular program for Term 3 has commenced. The schedule of activities can be found in the newslet-ter and on the noticeboards at school. YEAR 7 (2019) ORIENTATION: As part of the orientation process into Year 7, our current Year 6 students are completing Secondary School les-sons and experiences. Sessions are in the following areas: PDHPE, Food Technology, Wood Technology, Visual Arts, Drama, Science, Music, and STEM. This will be supplemented with their Orientation day which will be in Oc-tober. Future sessions will be: FUSE/STEM – Tuesday, 26 August, Wood Technology/Science - Tuesday, 18 September. Students may wear their sports uniform on these days. SMILES ON SITE: The school will be again in 2018 hosting Smiles on Site, a school based Australia wide Dental organisation. Please find later in the newsletter an information sheet on their services. They will be onsite for the week com-mencing Monday, 17 September. While here, they will offer dental services to all of our students. Permission acknowledgement notes need to be returned if you want to take advantage of this wonderful service. ASSESSMENT TASKS: Throughout the school year students are required to complete different forms of assessment. As teachers, we need to identify how students are meeting outcomes and some of these outcomes are completed inside and out-side of the classroom. In the Secondary school these tasks are compulsory and so are the due dates. To assist students and parents all tasks are on Student Café and Parent Lounge. Each student receives a paper copy, which they sign for. The task outline goes through what is expected of them, weighting of the task, the de-sired outcomes, a marking criteria and of course, the due date. The school is requesting that parents check Parent Lounge and we work together to ensure students are aware when tasks are due for submission. If the task is not submitted on time, the teacher will send an email to the par-ent. UNIFORM: We take pride in our uniform and the College has been taking particular care to ensure that all students are wear-ing our uniform properly. If your child cannot be in the correct uniform, we ask that they bring a note from home, explaining the situation. However, on sports days, if a student is unable to wear the correct sports uniform, then we ask that they wear their dress uniform to school and to get changed later at school. COMMUNICATION: If you have any concerns about your child, please feel free to contact us via email or through a telephone call to the office. If it is a curriculum matter the best point of contact is with your child's teacher, however, if it is a wider concern you should contact Mr MacAulay (K-6) or one of the Secondary Directors. In the Secondary School Mrs Lloyd (Director of Teaching and Learning, Mr Watkins – Director of Studies and Mr Lawless – Director of Student Welfare are the main contacts. If you have a concern regarding the wellbeing of your child the best point of contact is the child's year teacher (K-6) or Mr Eamonn Lawless – Director of Student Welfare (7-12).
Mr Andrew Jones, Deputy Principal
We had a lovely day today for our Book Fair and Parade! The children looked great in their costumes! Congratu-lations to my competition winners! There were some fantastic entries. The Kindergarten and Year 1 bunting en-tries are displayed in the library.
Thank you to those parents that gave books and monetary donations to the library, I really appreciate it.
Mrs Stonehouse, Librarian
In just over a week’s time our Year 5 and 6 students will be making the long but worthwhile journey to Canberra
to bask in the post leadership spill glory (if only we were there this week!). Next week these students will attend
a number of camp briefings to ensure they are well-informed and suitably prepared for their upcoming adven-
ture. While the current makeup of our government may be unstable, with almost eighty Year 5 and 6 MVAC stu-
dents attending the camp, we will certainly have the numbers to command a majority in the lower house of par-
liament. The Canberra excursion is a compulsory part of the Year 5 & 6 curriculum. Should you not want your
child to go to camp please be advised that there will be no supervision at school as the Year 5 & 6 teachers will
all be attending the excursion in Canberra.
12 BOYS FUTSAL TEAM
MVAC Under 12 Futsal Team went to Port Macquarie on Tuesday to represent the Taree Region for Futsal. They won 3 out of 4 and were eliminated in the semi-finals by Pacific Palms after an epic battle. 1 all at full time. No goals still at extra time. Finally losing after a 9 goal sudden death shoot-out and a chance to go to Brisbane. Well done MVAC under 12's.
Mr Brett Godwin
HRIS SOCCER GALA DAY
MVAC Senior Primary boys fielded 2 teams for the first time at the HRIS Soccer Gala Day. Both teams punched well above their weight with the much larger schools and can hold their head up with pride. Well done boys, some great individual and team performances certainly raised the eye-brows of parents, coaches and other students.
We are looking forward to next year already.
Mr Brett Godwin and Mr Eamonn Lawless
UNDER 13 & UNDER 16 FUTSAL
Congratulations to both sides on their efforts in trying to qualify for a nation-al tournament later in the year. Unfortunately neither team were able to fin-ish in the top two. The Under 13 side lost their semi final 2-1 after some im-pressive performances throughout the day. The Under 16’s did not reach the knockout stage but played some great games and were not beaten by much in any match. Well done to all players on qualifying this far and for representing the College with such enthusiasm. We look forward to building and developing further in 2019.
Mr Eamonn Lawless
FUTSAL: Congratulations to our 12, 13 and 16 Boys Futsal teams who played so well at the North Coast Champion of Champions in Port Macquarie last week. The top 2 teams qualify for the Australian Championships. Congratulations to our three teams who gave their all throughout their competitions. The 12 Boys finished in 3
rd
place, their final game going to penalties going down 8-7, the 13 Boys finished in 3rd
place and the 16 Boys in 4th
place. Thank you to Mr Godwin, Mr Lawless and Mr Ferguson for coaching these teams. PRIMARY ATHLETICS: The Primary School Athletics competed at the HRIS Athletics last week. Overall the team had a fantastic day finishing in 6
th place overall and 2
nd in the Percentage pointscore. There were several
placegetters and we await the final results from HRIS so we can make official announcements. ACHIEVEMENTS: At MVAC we like to celebrate in the achievements of our students. Some of these achievements happened in outside of school sports that we are not aware of. If your child is performing at a re-gional or over level we would like to celebrate with them. Please feel free to email me with the details. SUMMER SPORTS: With so many students competing at HRIS level and beyond this year in Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics, I would like to recommend our students get involved in sporting clubs that operate in the area that will assist with the school teams. NETBALL SCAS 2018
It has been great to see the girl’s enthusiasm for netball contin-
ue to grow, as numerous break and lunch times are spent on
the netball courts practising their shooting, footwork and ball
skills.
It was a lovely sunny day for our annual challenge against St
Columba from Port Macquarie. The girls played with determina-
tion and focus to gain possession of the ball. Although St Co-
lumba were taller and stronger than MVAC it was fantastic to
watch the girls continue to challenge their opponents. And in
the last quarter both teams match equally in the goal scoring
department – maybe we wore them out just a little bit.
Jacqui Stevenson’s footwork was outstanding. Ruby Dunn, Am-ber Northam and Keeley Taylor were able to apply their tactical understanding to different situations within the game. Christabel Lucas, Ella Simnett and Katie Tisdell worked togeth-er to progress the ball up the court. Alex Harvey was able to use her height in defence to gain many rebounds. Without a doubt the star of the day was Eden Rogers who went onto win Most Valuable Player. The coach of SCAS commented beautifully at the end of the day that Eden was, in her opinion, the best player on court for the whole day. I definitely agree. It is such a pleasure and a joy to watch Eden perform. Although the score does not reflect the effort, the girls should be proud of their performance for the day. Final score for the day was 26 to 7. NETBALL HRIS 2018 What a freezing cold morning greeted the HRIS Netball Teams. After the bus trip down, the teams quickly warmed
up.
The Senior Girls lost their first game but went on to win the next three convincingly. We finished third in pool B to go
onto the first round of final play-offs. It was a hotly contested game finishing in a draw so we had to play extra time. It
was nerve wrecking. Jacqui Stevenson saved the day shooting a goal with seconds to spare giving us a trip into the
finals.
We had a team of hot shooters. Ruby Dunn, Ella Simnett, Christabel Lucas, Hayley Wilson and Jacqui Stevenson
all taking it in turns and all rarely missing to make us hot contenders.
Our defence was super strong with Amber Northam, Alex Harvey and Eden Rogers proving a force to be reckoned
with. Ava Simnett was like the EverReady bunny never giving up in centre. She was an absolute star, shining
through the centre with her quick movements.
And finally on the wings we had so much talent with the girls grabbing intercepts and providing many turnovers.
Katie Tisdell’s and Keeley Taylor’s magnetic hands grabbed the ball many times sending the ball back to our end of
the court.
We really appreciated being able to train against the Year 7 and 8 girls and our many hours of lunchtime practices
really paid off. We finished 6th overall in the Senior A Division which is the best performance MVAC have had in Net-
ball for a long time.
It has been wonderful to see everyone’s development and enthusiasm for netball grow throughout the year and to
also see their team work skills improve.
The Junior Girls also played exceptionally throughout the day.
It was so pleasing to witness their teamwork and skills improve
throughout the day. Dallas Rogers, Matilda Dunn and Elly Sie-
verts all played outstandingly and also shared their knowledge
of the game encouraging and helping the younger members
during each game.
Zara Northam, Liliana Pinner and Lani McNeil were fabulous in
defence, turning the ball over on many occasions. They were a
great support to Chloe Taylor, Matilda McGilvray and Olivia
Walmsley who shone in the centre court moving the ball down
to the shooters. Ella Sowter had great success in the circle
scoring many goals.
Congratulations to all of the girls who finished 5th in their pool, and finished 12th overall after playing 2 very close finals. A great day was had by all. Well done!
Congratulations to our Confirmation Candidates.
Sunday 12 August marked a special day for the Manning Valley Anglican College (MVAC) community as a number
of its members were confirmed at Saint Matthew’s Anglican Church in Wingham.
Year 12 students Faith Hauser and Gordon Rose, music teacher Mr Todd Saunders and MVAC graduate Justin
Rose joined fellow Saint Matthew’s parishioner Katrina Greenaway in confirming their desire to follow the Lord Jesus
and received the ancient sacramental rite of the laying on of hands from Bishop Charlie Murry. Bishop Charlie pre-
sided at the celebratory Eucharist assisted by the Rector (i.e. parish priest) of the Anglican Parish of Wingham, the
Reverend Brian Ford.
Following the service the congregation enjoyed a sumptuous country style morning tea, including a special
“Confirmation Cake” that was specially prepared for the occasion.
Mr Greg Anderson, College Chaplain
Last Friday a select number of students from Year 7 and 8 travelled
down to the inaugural STEM day held at Lakes Grammar on the Central
Coast. The day was a challenge based competition between seven oth-
er HRIS Schools. Our teams of two and three were involved in activities
that included rocket making, aero activities, physics and other scientific
courses. We finished the day with credibility as we had the smallest
team by far. Congratulations to all student who participated during the
day.

STUDENT ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL
As it is a legal requirement that all student absences are
explained, the College has recently implemented an
email system to advise you when your child has been
marked absent from school during roll call. This email
will be sent after 9.15am each day.
This system allows you to reply to the email to provide
an explanation for your child’s absence as well as ensur-
ing you are aware that they are not at school.
If the absence remains unexplained for more than three
days another email will be generated to prompt you to
contact the College regarding their absence.
If your child arrives after 9.15am they will be required to
be signed in by a Parent/Caregiver at the Office to allow
their attendance to be updated. If you sign your child in
late and have received the email please disregard it.
Absences can still be advised by contacting the College
by phone, email or the SkoolBag app.
All the best to our Year 12 students who have commenced their HSC Trial Examinations. They have been working
hard in preparation for this final school based assessment mark. We are thinking and praying for you all during this
time.
A Prayer by Year 12 , 2018. Dear God, Please watch over us and guide us as we begin the next chapter of our lives. Help us to remain positive, healthy and motivated through any challenges we may face. Let us remember your love for us and allow us to show that love to others. Amen.
