DescriptionIBM Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager provides comprehensive, flexible, andscalable performance management with visualization and reporting of networkperformance data for complex, multi-vendor, multi-technology networks.

Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager is part of the IBM integrated network andservice assurance solution portfolio, comprising performance management andfault management, plus customer experience, service quality, and business servicemanagement.

New features and enhancementsIBM Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager, Version 1.4.4 offers the following newversions of the supported software and components.

Big Data Extension for Wireline ComponentWireline Component now has an additional Big Data Extension. The Big DataExtension is Hadoop - based, simplified microservice orchestration, configuration,and management system that is supported on Apache Ambari.

Note: Starting from 1.4.3 onwards Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager - WirelineComponent has an additional Hadoop - based Big Data Extension component. Noupdates are done to the Big Data Extension component in 1.4.4 and the versionremains at 1.4.3.

Big Data Extension has the following features:

Hadoop - based Big Data ExtensionIt uses IBM Open Platform with Apache Spark and Apache Hadoop freedistribution, which is 100 percent Apache Foundation open sourcecomponents to innovate quickly with Big Data. The IBM Open Platformwith Apache Spark and Apache Hadoop has the following features:v Spark in-memory distributed compute engine for dramatic performance

increases over MapReduce.v Ambari operational framework for provisioning, managing and

monitoring Apache Hadoop clusters.

Enhanced scalingAmbari makes Hadoop management simpler with an intuitive, easy-to-useHadoop management web UI backed by its RESTful APIs. Add or removenodes from Big Data cluster according to your computing load based onperformance entity metric records per hour

Lower latency on performance data collectionYou have more flexible access to your performance data with low latency.Data latency at DataChannel stage can be eliminated by extracting the datainto Kafka bus. It provides real-time bulk data extraction.

New storage architectureNew storage technology based on column-store data warehouse for largecapacity and fast access.

Flexible data retention periodsConfigure to retain your raw and aggregated performance data for flexibleperiods. Retention periods are computed for any period and granularity byusing raw and pre-aggregated values.

Entity AnalyticsAnalytics engine is used for performance data aggregations.

Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager CollectorBinary Output Files (BOF) files from DataLoad are transferred to Kafka busthrough the Collector.

New features in Operations and Engineering DashboardsOperations and Engineering Dashboards are enhanced representation of networkperformance for both wireless and wireline/IP-based networks in Tivoli NetcoolPerformance Manager. These built-in dashboards are interactive and help to detect,

isolate, and diagnose network issues at a glance. Operations and EngineeringDashboards are provided as built-in dashboards that cover some wireline andwireless solutions.v Operations and Engineering Dashboards application is supported on AIX and

Linux platforms only.v Geographic Event Performance System that is based on the Geographic

Information System (GIS) functionality is added with a new Monitoring ZoneSummary and Monitoring Zone Site View dashboards.These dashboard has the following benefits:– You can evaluate the severity of an outage based on the number of affected

sites and the estimated impacted subscribers.– You are able to zoom into the geographical map that shows the zones of the

site.

Important: Upgrade support is not provided with the earlier evaluation version ofOperations and Engineering Dashboards that is available on IBM Developer.

Lists the issues you might encounter while installing, upgrading, or using TivoliNetcool Performance Manager for Wireless.

Read the following known issues.

SYSINIT task failure during Tivoli Netcool Performance ManagerWireless core application server installation

SymptomsYou might see the following error message during the installation of applicationserver:javax.security.auth.login.FailedLoginException:Password Incorrect/Password RequiredTask SYSINIT exited with value 1. Quitting.

Resolving the problemTo resolve this issue, run the following command manually as user virtuo:sys_init -u sysadm -p <password> -h <fully-qualified hostname>

After the upgrade from Tivoli Directory Server 6.3 to SecurityDirectory Server 6.4, you might see Tivoli Directory Serverprocess still runningSymptomsAfter you upgrade from Tivoli Directory Server 6.3 to Security Directory Server 6.4,you might see the Tivoli Directory Server process still running. This issue is seen inAIX systems only and does not have any functional impact.

For example, run the following commands to check the status:# /etc/rc.d/init.d/tdsna status

You see the output as follows:

TDS LDAP server is runningTDS admin server is running

Resolving the problemTo work around this issue, follow these steps:1. Back up the tdsna script in /etc/rc.d/init.d by using the following

command:# mv /etc/rc.d/init.d/tdsna /etc/rc.d/init.d/tdsna_backup

2. Move tdsna file from directory /var/install/tds/startup to /etc/rc.d/init.dby using the following command:

# mv /var/install/tds/startup/tdsna /etc/rc.d/init.d

3. Run tdsna status as follows:# /etc/rc.d/init.d/tdsna status

You see the following message:SDS is already installed, please check SDS services.

4. Missing alarm type in the scriptSpecify the name of the alarm for which you are configuring the alarm propertiesfile when you are working with adaptive alarms.

SymptomsIf the alarm type is not specified in the sample properties file that is provided as aparameter to the report_alarm script, you might encounter the following message:Report complex alarming action executing. Resolving the problemTo resolve this issue, specify the correct value for the <alarm_type> parameter whenyou run the script.

Discrepancy in the display of adaptive alarms on the AlarmViewer and Active Event List (AEL)The alarms that are displayed on Alarm Viewer and AEL are different.

SymptomsIf there are three alarms that are displayed on Alarm Viewer for three KPIs thatbelong to a single entity, on the AEL you might see a single alarm with a count ofthree. One of the three KPI names is displayed for the single alarm that istriggered on AEL.

You cannot open Common Reporting page of two differentservers in the same browserSymptomsYou cannot open two Common Reporting pages from two different servers in thesame browser.

Resolving the problemTo resolve this issue, configure Single sign-on (SSO) in Jazz for ServiceManagement. For more information, seeConfiguring SSO in Tivoli Common Reporting 3.1

Daily history of summary gets truncated in summariser logsWhen you run the daily history of summary through the CLI and thesummariser-server.log rolls out to a new page, the summary is truncated.

Only one metric group is shown in a report from the deployedcomplex summary modelSymptomsWhen you create a complex summary definition that has a combination traffic KPIslike UDC, peg count and Pcalc, you might see only one KPI in the report studiolist after you import and deploy the summary model. The KPI name follows thesequence that is shown in the metric group from Model Maker Extractor. Thereport studio populates only the first group and the other group is not populated.

Resolving the problemTo resolve this issue, follow these steps:v Create separate models for UDC, peg count and Pcalc.v Combine the models. For more information about combining models. For more

information, see Installing and Using Model Maker - Wireless Component.

v Publish the combined model.

Reverting to a prompt page in Resource Metric ViewerIf you want to revert to the prompt page on Resource Metric Viewer to edit your

selection, click the Run ( ) button on the upper right of the page. Theprompt page retains the previously selected entities.

Timezone discrepancy on AIX server that affects the Stored BusyHour (SBH) calculationThis issue is seen on AIX environment only.

SymptomsWhen you deploy Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager - Wireless component onAIX server, you might notice incorrect SBH calculation due to timezonediscrepancy on the server and period of calculation for SBH. SBH is calculated atGMT timezone even though the server is at a different timezone and you mightmiss some busy hour calculations.

CausesThere is an issue on AIX server where the JVM is not able to read the servertimezone correctly. Timezone is set in /etc/environment.

Resolving the problemTo work around this issue, add the following lines to .profile for virtuo user andrestart the server:TZ=<Your_server_timezone>export TZ

For example:TZ=Asia/Kolkataexport TZ

The value of TZ is now same as in /etc/environment. To check the value, use thecommand:grep TZ /etc/environment

Cannot enable 3D graph in KPI Browser on Firefox ESR 38SymptomsYou cannot enable 3D graphs in KPI Browser by using Enable/Disable 3D graphoption together with legend option on Firefox ESR 38. Enable/Disable 3D graphoption is used to enable or disable the 3D graphs .

Do not run any wireless system commands in the sameinstallation or upgrade sessionSymptomsIf you run any wireless system commands in the same session after installation orupgrade, you might see the following error message:Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -Doracle.jdbc.autoCommitSpecCompliant=falseError executing conf_read: exit status 13

Resolving the problemTo resolve this issue, close your current session and run your commands inanother session.
