• Internet Explorer 8 is an example of a a Web browser which is software that enables you to use the World Wide Web and navigate from page to page and site to site.
• A home page is the Web page that displays every time you start Internet Explorer 8.

• An Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides an Internet connection through a regular telephone line, a special high-speed telephone line, or cable.

• A Web site is a group of related Web pages published to a specific location on the World Wide Web.
• A Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is a unique address used to locate a Web page or Web site.

• A portal is a launching site to other Web pages and contains links to frequently visited sites.
• The Command bar can provide quick access to commands such as Home, Safety, and Tools.

• Protocol is a set of rules for transferring data over the Internet.– File Transfer Protocol (ftp) is a protocol
that enables individuals to copy files from one computer to another on a network.
– Hypertext Transfer Protocol (http) is a protocol that enables individuals to download files from another computer on a network.

• The Domain name is part of a text-based URL that identifies the company or organization that owns the Web site.
• A top-level domain (TLD) is the highest level of the Domain Name System expressed as the last part of the domain name and is represented by a period followed by three or four letters.– .com, .edu, .org, .net, .mil– .cn, .jp, .ru, .au

• Instant Search allows you to add additional engines making it easier to search for keywords within the text of current Web pages.
