MRP is a special version of the game for girls, boys and young adults with learning and perceptual difficulties to participate in the game that they love. This verson of the game, developed by GingerCloud Foundation, is touch-only and sees each player partnered with their own on-field PlayerMentor, who guides and supports them on-field.

All three versions of the MRP will be played on the main field, showcasing not only the talent of the MRP’s young players, but also the sense of community and inclusion playing rugby brings to them and their families.

The MRP showcase shall include:

M R P P l a y e r M e n t o r D e m o n s t r a t i o nA unique feature of MRP is the use of on-field PlayerMentors to help guide and support the players, and ensuring that the game remains safe and fun for all participants regardless of age or skill.

The PlayerMentor demonstration will talk the crowd through the role played by these important team players in the MRP family.

M R P M a t c hThe original form of the program is designed for MRP Players between 7 and 13 who are matched and supported one-on-one by a teenage PlayerMentor.

M R P C o l t s M a t c hThe MRP Colts has been designed for young adults between 14 and 20 who are matched with university-aged PlayerMentors between 19 and 24.

M R P 7 sMRP 7s is a modified form of the VIVA 7s format, and is a faster, more independent form of the game. The field size is larger than in the MRP, the skill set has increased and whilst there are PlayerMentors of mixed ages on-field, they support all the MRP Players in their team

The first of the headline matches, this event features the debut of the Classic Wallaroos. Captained by former Wallaroos skipper and 18 Test veteran Ash Hewson, some of Australia’s best female players will take to the field against the Brothers Womens Team in a game of Rugby 10s. This match will not only showcase the enormous impact of the nation’s proud women’s rugby heritage, but will be the dawn of an era, with the Classic Wallaroos stepping in to joining the Classic Wallabies in supporting the next generation of Aussie rugby players.

Speech Pathology Australia identifies 14 per cent of school-aged children as being impacted by a learning and perceptual disability. Research shows that these challenges significantly impact their ability to participate in community activities like mainstream team sports.

The GingerCloud Foundation envisions a world where all girls, boys and young adults with learning and perceptual difficulties feel safe, are understood, experience success and belong.

The MRP was created in 2014 to fulfil this vision - a world-first, touch only, modified form of rugby union specifically designed to create long-term participation, and above all, ensure that all girls, boys and young adults can experience the vibrant sense of community that grassroots rugby can bring.

Since then, the MRP has grown rapidly, and with more clubs around the country wanting to participate, the MRP needs your help to continue its quest to ensure that girls, boys and young adults around the country experience the joy of inclusion.

In 2018, MRP had its biggest season yet. Working with the Classic Wallabies, MRP continue the growth of bonds that won’t break

around Australia and beyond.

ParticipantsStarting with 20

participants in 2014, the MRP finished 2018 with 234 girls, boys and young adults playing across all forms of

the game.

234

TeamsStarting with 2 teams and only one form of the game in 2014, MRP now sports 26 teams playing three

variations of the code, with 12 MRP teams, 10 MRP 7s

teams and 4 MRP Colts teams participating across

Queensland, and from 2019, the ACT.

26

Participating ClubsStarting with a single Rugby

club in 2014, the MRP now has 8 participating clubs across the state of Queensland. From April

2019, the MRP will expand to Canberra in the ACT.

With interest coming from all corners of the country, the MRP will continue to

grow in 2019.

Every Australian rugby player that represents the Wallabies automatically becomes a ‘member’ of the Classic Wallabies once their representative career is complete.

The Classic Wallabies exist to continue the mateship and camaraderie beyond the playing days, providing former Wallabies with opportunities to keep in touch, catch up and reminisce about those special times. We also actively support the growth and development of Grassroots Rugby, with Classic Wallabies involved in junior skills development clinics, fundraising events and exhibition matches.
