The GVCC’s Advocacy Group of Cumberland County focuses on important issues that impact our business communities. A variety of payroll tax changes are in effect for 2020. Details were distributed to our members• S2144 / A3850 and A4293 – NJ Insurance Fair Conduct Act: These bills make it easier for

people to sue insurance companies if an “unreasonable” delay in processing happens. We oppose this legislation because it likely would result in large auto & home policy premium increases for residents and businesses alike

• Federal SECURE Act – impacts changes in retirement savings accounts and distributions• Commuter Benefits Law is effective March 1, 2020 – NJ employers must offer a pre-tax

benefit plan and allow employees to “opt out”.• S4204 – This bill would re-classify many independent contractors. We oppose this

legislation and are following it closely.

Our Green Initiatives Committee recently met with the Cumberland County Recycling Coordinator and their Clean Communities Department. They shared some interesting information about recycling and the issues facing our county. Most plastic items take anywhere from 20-450 years to biodegrade! A plastic bag takes 20 years, a plastic water bottle 450 years and Styrofoam cups approximately 500 years! If you are interested in finding out more information about recycling in Cumberland County, contact Ms. Pregartner at 856-825-3700 x1270 or [email protected].
