Student Activities are the self-directed keyboarding lessons within the Student Application. The Student Activities have audio and video instructions so they can be completed independently by children at any age.

Teacher-Led Lessons include Digital Citizenship, Digital Literacy, and Finger & Key Reinforcement lessons.

Pre-Keyboarding SkillsJump Into Keyboarding contains Student Activities designed to teach unique pre-keyboarding skills, such as mousing, drag and drop, and the structure of a keyboard. These activities are built into the first 6–10 weeks of each grade level, serving as an introduction to keyboarding in the lower grades, and as a review in the upper grades. Grades K–2 begin at week 1 with Jump Into Keyboarding activities by default, but the educator can choose to skip it. Grades 3–5 default to skip Jump Into Keyboarding, but educators can choose to include it.

Hear It, Type It Students listen to audio and type what they hear during these dictation activities. Students are allowed two attempts to type the audio correctly, then the third attempt provides students with the correct text to type over.

EMBEDDED ASSESSMENTSKWT has embedded Spot Checks for Speed & Accuracy throughout each grade level. Spot Checks evaluate pre-keyboarding and keyboarding skills at incremental stages throughout the curriculum in four categories: letters, words, sentences, and paragraphs. Students are automatically prompted to take Spot Checks to gauge their understanding of specific skills and can review their scores upon completion.

Students have the option to repeat the Spot Check up to two more times to beat their “best” score for speed and accuracy. Keyboarding Assessments can be scheduled for the beginning, middle, and end of the year or on a specific date or at next login . There are four different components included in each assessment. Students in grades K–3 are assessed on mousing skills, letters, words, and sentences. Grades 4–5 are assessed on letters, words, sentences, and paragraphs.
