One step ahead. Since 2008, we have been participating in various research projects with noiseless vibration analyses, directly on the rail and on the railway sleepers. These are the basis for very precise analysis methods that determine the “dynamic behaviour” of the switch when the train passes over it.
Special machines and test systems. Since 1972, many leading manufacturers have relied on the capabilities of our development team to produce measuring and testing equipment for their individual and small series production.
Excerpt from industrial applications:
❙❙ At Siemens, no medium and highvoltage switch leaves the factory without our measuring systems being involved in the tests.
❙❙ In the laboratory of BSH GmbH, dishwashers and washing machines with measuring devices were developed.
Our quality, your potential. We are aware of our responsibility as a supplier of measuring and test systems. We know that our systems only meet the requirements of our customers if we ourselves can guarantee a high level of quality. We realise this in the form of modern manufacturing, testing and inspection procedures, such as quality portals and automated test procedures.

Earth potential monitoringEarth potential measuring device
When operating direct current railways with return lines through the rails, the different earthing resistors give rise to voltages that can be dangerous for people and buildings. These measuring instruments monitor the potentials of the connected earths and evaluate the voltages produced.
The device is designed to be mounted on a tophat rail and requires no auxiliary voltage. The power supply is provided by the input voltage to be monitored.
WITT EPM 3 | EPM 80
With WITT EPM 3, limit values can be measured on the front panel with a high measuring accuracy between 60 – 120 V can be set. A potentialfree changeover contact is available to signal when the limit value is exceeded.
Dielectric strength is included: 1000 VDC / 1000 VAC. An external power supply is required for this part.
WITT EPM 4 | EPM100
WITT EPM 4 is delivered with customerspecific threshold values. The agreed thresholds are generally between 60 VDC – 200 VDC for DC channels. Two potentialfree changeover contacts are available to signal exceeding the threshold value.
Dielectric strength is included: 2000 VDC / 1400 VAC
We are also pleased to manufacture these products according to customer requirements for typical medium voltage ranges with AC voltage capabilities.
WITT EPM 5
The threshold values can be set by an operator by means of DIP switches between 60 and 120V in 10V steps. The DIP contact strip is located behind the nameplate and can be removed with a screwdriver.
Dielectric strength is included: 2000 VDC / 1400 VAC
WITT EPM 6 | ESM3
EPM 6 is used for monitoring the ground voltage in the area of DC paths. It determines the values of two measuring points and can transmit them to a SCADA system or, if the threshold values are exceeded, transmit them via potentialfree contacts.
Dielectric strength is included: 2000 VDC / 1400 VAC
WITT EPM 7
With WITT EPM 7 you can measure and evaluate as many potentials as you like. Limit values and measured values can be transmitted to a SCADA system such as MiraculumSCM. Up to four potentialfree changeover contacts are available for signaling, for each of which individual limit values can be preset.

Earth potential monitoring
Typical requests:
On railways operating with direct current, the running rail is used as a return conductor for the traction current. The rail is insulated from the ground, as stray currents, that would otherwise occur, cause corrosion of buildings and equipment. The return current flowing through the rail causes a potential difference to ground due to the electrical resistance of the rail. This potential difference can be exploited as a voltage between the rail or vehicle and buildings or earth. This voltage is potentially dangerous for people and damages buildings. There are therefore various standards and regulations that allow precautions to be taken in this respect.
Short-circuit system
We are proud to have been approved by the German Federal Railway Authority for EscS 701 (SBE voltage limiter) since 2003 and for EscS 7 (EKS1000 earthing shortcircuiter) since 2016, thus meeting the high requirements of DB Netz AG.
True innovation is when proven things are reinvented. With the new generation of products, we not only meet the latest standards, but also systematically follow the path of modularization and digitization. Thanks to modern interfaces, we provide a wide range of measurement data and status information or can receive parameters on request. In this way, we not only ensure the protection of people and buildings, but also provide information for stray current monitoring. For example, Miraculum – SCM.
WITT EscS 3 | PÜWE
This powerful potential monitoring device is used in various areas such as workshops and battery systems. The potential difference is continuously determined between any two connection points and shortcircuits in a timevariable manner (8 to 60 seconds) when a predefined voltage level (40 to 99 volts) is exceeded. EscS 3 can optionally be equipped with an insulation monitoring, but the circuit is not oriented to the DIN standard.
Dielectric strength is included: 2000 VDC / 1400 VAC
WITT EscS 4 | EKS8
Even our smallest independently resettable earth leakage circuit breaker complies with DIN EN 50123.
Depending on the design, there are different configuration options.
Here, the voltage differences between the return conductor and the water earth are monitored. The combination of antiparallel arranged thyristors and a power contactor guarantees a low switching time and a high current carrying capacity. EscS 4 is equipped with interfaces and is programmable.
This grounding short circuitry has a particularly compact design.
Switching voltage: 900 VDC at 1 second up to 2kA/ 3 kA
This earthing short circuitry is especially realized in a more compact design.
Power frequency withstand voltage: 900 VDC / Current at 1 Sec up to 2kA/ kA
WITT EscS 5 | EKS100
EscS 5 grounding short circuitry is generally used for local DC circuits. Compliance with the standards does not yet require ABE approval.
EscS 5 is an independently resettable earthing short circuit breaker according to EN 50122 which we offer in different performance classes. The voltage limiter monitors the voltage differences between the return conductor and earth and can be parameterized. A fastreacting power contactor guarantees a short switching time and a high current carrying capacity. This earthing short circuitry is designed in a particularly compact design.
The switching voltage is included: 1500 / 3000 VDC Current up to 25kA, / 35kA
WITT EscS 7 | EKS1000
EscS 7 is an independently resettable earthing short circuitry for the protection of persons and systems.
As one of the few products available on the market, it meets the latest requirements of DIN EN 50122, which means that not only the DC and AC voltages but also the superposition of these two types of voltage between the return conductor and earth are monitored. The combination of antiparallel thyristors and a power contactor guarantees a low switching time and a high current carrying capacity. This earthing short circuitry has a particularly compact design.
The switching voltage is included: 1500 VDC. Current up to 25kA, / 35kA.
EscS 7 is the successor model of the EKS1000 with the EBA type approval code no.: 3343340/0/016.

WITT EscS 9 | new
Would you like to measure and monitor not only the potential of the railway ground, the water ground, your station and the pipeline running underneath it, but also the potential of the car tunnel, the suburban railway and the underground railway tunnel, as well as to shortcircuit it to different grounds using different sound values?
Then you will not have a problem, we have the solution for your task.
Because of the platform of EscS it is possible to carry out almost all potential, voltage and current measurements. Short circuits can also be applied according to different standards for different potentials.
The switching voltage is included: 1500 / 3000 VDC | VAC. Current 25kA, / 35kA.
Cable Monitoring
The monitoring of a cable is a special task, because in addition to the actual use of the cable, additional information must be determined in order to check the functionality of the cable.
We offer several measuring devices for this purpose. Starting with a simple check of the cable insulation up to fault location. An accuracy of up to 5 % can be achieved here.
WITT CFM 3 | KFM 200
WITT CFM 3 is used for monitoring the insulation of cable systems. The connection is made between the insulating outer sheath and a reference ground. The voltage is measured between the cable sheath and, for example, a ground. The message is displayed by means of the freely adjustable threshold. If the voltage drops below the threshold, the message is automatically reset. The message is displayed locally by means of two potentialfree changeover contacts and a signal lamp. The system operates without auxiliary voltage. Insulation voltage 2kV.
WITT CFM 4 | KFM 400
The cable monitoring device WITT CFM 4 allows both the standard monitoring of the insulation between conductor and screen, screen and earth, as well as additional monitoring of the screen in case of interruption. Potentialfree relay contacts are available for signaling. The optional external display unit (bar graphs) can also be used to display the limit value and the insulation value. The insulation voltage is included: 2kV.
WITT CFM 6 | new
The cable monitoring device WITT CFM 6 not only monitors the insulation, but also provides the measured values for SCADA systems. Possible monitoring options include standard insulation between conductor and shield, shield and ground, as well as additional monitoring of the shield in case of interruption. Potentialfree relay contacts are optionally available for signaling. An equally optional external display unit provides information on site. Insulation voltage 2kV.
WITT CFM 7 | KFNN
Copper cables and return line reinforcements in particular for direct current paths (single conductor cable 1x500 mm²) not only have an important system task, they also have great appeal due to their copper value. They are unfortunately not uncommon and far exceed the material value of the stolen cables. In addition, repair costs and possible train breakdowns are high.
In addition, faulty return conductor systems lead to dangerous contact voltages and thus a danger to people and equipment.
We have developed the CFM 7 to enable theftproof monitoring as well as detection and localization of tampering with copper cable systems.
❙❙ Signals even the simplest tampering attempts, e.g. a short circuit in the monitored cable
❙❙ Reliable realtime detection of cable damage or manipulation
❙❙ Detects damage to cables, closely related to civil engineering works
❙❙ Detects the penetration of water into the cable or sheath
❙❙ All driver interruptions caused by theft or civil engineering, for example.
❙❙ Determines the point of damage with an accuracy of approximately 25%. Example: for a 3 km long cable, the location of the fault is determined with an accuracy of 60 to 150 m.
❙❙ Allows immediate preventive or maintenance measures to be taken and avoids unnecessary downtime.
The insulation voltage is included: 1kV – 3kV Measuring module Cable length 1000m, 2000m, 3000m.
Cable Monitoring
Tensile stress monitoringTransaction Voltage Monitoring
These devices are used to monitor DC voltage values.
Typical application is the distancedependent monitoring of overhead line voltage in a DC railway system.
This becomes necessary, for example, if the voltage should fall below a certain value or lie within a certain threshold value before the individual line sections.
WITT TVM 3 | FSM100
WITT TVM 3 monitors the catenary voltages of the track sections and indicates via potentialfree relay contacts whether these voltage values are within the permissible threshold values.
If all catenary voltages of the line sections to be interconnected are within the permissible range, a connection of the sections can be activated.
The device requires no auxiliary voltage and is intended for mounting on a top hat rail.
Dielectric strength is included: 2000 VDC / 1400 VAC.
WITT TVM 4 | FSM300
WITT TVM 4 is used to measure the catenary voltage of DC railway systems.
This is necessary, for example, when track sections are to be interconnected.
Because an electrical connection between the sections can only be made when all voltage values are within a certain threshold.
Potentialfree relay contacts indicate whether the traction voltage of the track section is within the permissible threshold value.
The unit requires no auxiliary voltage and is intended for mounting on an omega rail.
Dielectric strength is included: 2000 VDC / 1400 VAC.
WITT TVM 7 | new
WITT’s TVM 7 is the Smart 4.0 version of the TVM 4, it determines the overhead line voltage and can transmit the values of the track sections to a SCADA system, for example. Optionally, the information can be additionally displayed by potentialfree relay contacts.
The unit requires no auxiliary voltage and is intended for mounting on an omega rail.
Dielectric strength is included: 2000 VDC / 1400 VAC.
Fuse monitoring in case of SDSM power failure
The device monitors the voltage failure protection devices (SDS) or HVL voltage limiting devices used in the railway sector and reports a defective SDS or a burning of the HVL via an integrated GSM modem. This eliminates the manual fuse monitoring that would otherwise be necessary.
SDS/HVL monitoring detects the fuse condition by contactless current and voltage measurement. If the fuse is faulty, a message is sent via a GSM module. The device does not require any auxiliary power or signal lines. No wiring is required to install the monitoring device.
No external supply voltage is required for monitoring the MSDS. The integrated highperformance battery has a maximum service life of 8 years and can be easily replaced. The need to change the battery is signaled in time via GSM.
The monitoring device monitors the current and voltage at the fuse. The current measurement is carried out by means of an alternating current transformer. The current pulse resulting from the melting of the fuse triggers a reversible signal contact. The voltage measurement also checks the tripping criterion. When the alarm is triggered, an SMS is sent via a GSM module.
Electronic fuse monitoring
SCM = Stray current monitoring
Stray current is that part of the return current that does not return through the return line but through the ground or through a tunnel or structure to the substation. Corrosion occurs on metallic materials. In general, insulation is therefore formed between the return conductor and the earth. Due to ageing and environmental influences, the insulation can become defective, resulting in stray current effects.
Miraculum – SCM
More and more measuring systems are communicative and provide measured values. Miraculum SCM collects data, structures it and makes it evaluable. The measurement data is continuously evaluated based on years of experience with monitoring problems of earth potential and with the help of modern systematic analyses.
To facilitate and reduce complexity, the information is presented in the form of various diagrams and charts. In this way, MiraculumSCM ensures that every operator can understand the complex situation of the power grid or stray current.
Thanks to machine learning, Mirarulum SCM can not only evaluate your data continuously, but also make forecasts to support your actions and decisions.
Miraculum is built on a framework that consists of several established tools.
We are particularly proud of the fact that behind Miraculum, there is not only intelligent software, but also a team that can help you with “natural intelligence” and extensive experience in measurement techniques during implementation.
