WMN- Miami Chapter of the Younger Women’s Task ForceMiami-Dade Candidates 2014
Endorsements by Ruth’s List:
Miami-Dade:STATE REPRESENTATIVE BARBARA WATSON — PROTECT
Ruth’s List helped Barbara Watson’s special election to the Florida House in March 2011. This is a minority-majority district, so the winner of the primary will win the general election. In 2012, the Florida Chamber of Commerce and other special interest groups fronted a “Republican in Democratic clothing” against Barbara. A combination of their money and
low primary turnout meant this election was a squeaker: Barbara won by just 13 votes! This round, she has four opponents filed against her. Barbara Watson is one of our most progressive voters in the State House. In the past session, she’s introduced a bill to strengthen the Fair Housing Act and make it truly fair for all Floridians. We all need Barbara to win on August 26, 2014.

DANIELLA LEVINE CAVA -- MIAMI-DADE COUNTY COMMISSION District #8 – PICK UP
Daniella Levine Cava will bring more than 30 years experience as a community advocate to her job as Miami-Dade County Commissioner. From re-organizing community services post-Hurricane Andrew, to her most-recent work as Founder and CEO of Catalyst Miami, Daniella knows how to get things done in southeast Florida. Her opponent, incumbent Linda Bell,
regularly puts corporate special interests before the needs of county residents. Daniella is one of the best known and respected civic leaders in the county – characteristics that are helping her raise the funds necessary to win this challenging race. Ruth’s List has helped Daniella build her campaign and finance plans and will rally our extensive member network to help her win.
DAISY BAEZ-- STATE HOUSE 114— PICK UP
Redistricting brought this swing seat to a slight-lean-Dem. Incumbent Erik Fresen is one of the more radical anti-abortion state representatives – plus he’s regularly in the news for improprieties. Daisy Baez brings a strong
background in hospital administration and organizing to this race. Plus, her impressive network is helping her raise money and attract volunteers early on. Ruth’s List has been working with Daisy for three years preparing her for this run. She can win with our and your help. It’s high time Florida had its first Dominican-American legislator!!
