    Woe Unto Me

When I read the Life of the Prophet

And the stories of the companions

    I wondered

How The Most Merciful has made my life

    So comfortable and in ease

He gave me my loving parents

    And my beloved brother

While Allah took away my Prophets parents

And his companions fought their own fathers and brothers

    In the cause of truth

We live in a own house

With fine rooms and lush furniture

While my Prophet lived in such a small house

Many a times with no oil to lit up

My Lord gave me much to wear

Sometimes even confused what to choose

A few I threw away because It was old

    Or a little torn

While Umar May Allah be pleased with him

    Leader of the faithful,

Made the people worry on a Friday ,

being late to conduct the prayer

    When he finally arrived ,

    He Pleaded to forgive him

Because He had washed his only cloth

    Waiting for it to dry

I could talk to my loved ones

    From anywhere with a phone

While Muadh , May Allah be pleased with him

Could not talk to his most beloved of all

After he was sent by his master to a distant place

To return at last only to see his grave

My Lord has given me much to eat

    Of different varieties and tastes

    Once I rejected my food

When my mother cooked with love

Only with a little more salt

While my Prophet carried stones tied to his stomach

To bear the hunger he had

I could travel to distant places of Earth

    With ease and comfort

Like a wind, in a metal bird

While they travelled in heat and cold of the desert for miles

Only on the command of their Lord

I knew this Earth was round as a kid

    But they only knew

What the Messenger of Allah had taught them

    Then I thought

    How lucky I am

To have such a great life

Full of Nihmas of my Lord

But when I read the incident

    Of a companion

None but Abubakr, May Allah be pleased with him

When the Messenger of Allah asked his people

to give in the cause of Allah

Abubakr came with all he had

    Though not much

    Then the Prophet asked

What did you leave behind for your family?

    He replied

I left behind Allah and his Messenger

    I was amazed

How great his tawakkul on Allah

Then I realized how wrong I really was

For I thought I had everything that one could want

    Woe unto me

    For I wil be asked

Of what use I made of each of that I was given

Then I remembered I have high chance of entering the fire

    I wept and wept

Even if I were to go to Jannah

    I would, much behind those

Who the Lord didnt bless with the worldly things

    Light years behind

It struck me how unlucky I really am

    Woe unto me

But the companions had what I didnt have

They had Allah and his Messenger

For one who has nothing has Allah

And for one who has Allah has everything
