Woman, Why Are You Weeping?
Those words of Jesus I long to hear. How about you? On Easter morning we’ll hear the Risen Christ speak to Mary Magdalene: Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?
But we have much ground to cover first.
On Palm Sunday (March 29) we’ll be prepped for the journey. By day’s end, our Passover train will include two more adult members of the congregation, the newly confirmed: Reed Dahle and Charlie McKee. That morning we’ll come together for one wondrous, palm-waving celebration of our Lord Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. And our children will be engaging in the hands-on activities of our Lenten fair. What better way to end our time together than sharing a meal!
On Maundy Thursday (April 2) our 7th graders will receive their first communions. The solemnity of the night will be felt as this is Jesus’ Last Supper…before his death. Yet for us he prepares a table to feast on until we see him face to face. The altar is stripped, reminding us fo the impending sacrifice of the Lamb of God for our sin.
On Good Friday (April 3) we will weep. We will conduct two services on that most holy of days, mourning the crucifixion and death of Jesus. At noon I will conduct the Chief Service. At 7 pm we will gather for the Tenebrae or Service of Darkness.
On Easter morning (April 5) we will follow Mary Magdalene to the garden tomb…and then go there a second time with her, Peter and John. The disciples will depart: one believing and the other bewildered. Angelic light will illumine the empty tomb. And while Mary is weeping because she knows not where they have laid her Lord, Jesus asks those questions quoted above. After the Risen Christ speaks Mary’s name, she won’t let go of him!
You friend, are also not in danger of losing your Lord. Jesus is risen and more importantly he is ascended. Give him all the glory he is due for Jesus has purchased you with a precious price—his body and blood. He lives forevermore for you. One day soon, like Mary, you will see him and Jesus will wipe away every tear from your face. That’s his resurrected, revelation promise!
Still eagerly awaiting with you the time when our buried alleluias ring out once again at the opening of the tomb door,

NOW WE KNOW Thank Yous Susan Motter and family are grateful for the extras by everyone who encouraged
them during the time of Susan’s mother’s (Martha Wiseman’s) death, visitation,
funeral, and funeral luncheon at Risen Christ. Mrs. Wiseman loved pink and snow;
on her funeral days there was plenty of pink in flowers and other touches; the day of
her funeral, there was lots of snow. The family thanks you for notes, cards, phone
calls, prayers, & the luncheon time where family could be together.
Paul Bok and family appreciates the many meaningful expressions of sympathy in
cards and phone calls on his brother Steve Bok’s death. He wishes to thank everyone
for continuing in prayer for Steve while Steve battled cancer.

BIBLE QUIZ
Early last year, Randy Schwarz and I led a Bible study in the narthex about “The Life and Times of the Apostle
Paul..” So I am taking this opportunity to see if the participants in that study and others in the church can
answer a 10- question quiz about the Apostle Paul.
1. Saul (also called Paul) was born in a small town in Turkey on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea
around 3 AD. Many people referred to him as Saul from_______________ (Acts 9:11).
2. When he was 12 or 13 years of age, his father sent him to Jerusalem to be taught in a Pharisaic
Rabbinical school headed by Rabbi ____________________(Acts 22:3)
3. After his schooling in Jerusalem he returned to Tarsus to learn a trade as a ____________ (Acts
18:3).
4. Saul returned to Jerusalem and offered his services to the high priest to stamp out any who opposed
the way of the synagogue. One of the seven men chosen by the Christian church in Jerusalem was
Stephen. Saul was present at Stephens trial and as he was ___________ (Acts 7:58) to death.
5. Saul was on his way to ___________, Syria (Acts 26:12) to search for more believers when a burst
of light suddenly appeared and caused him to fall off his horse (Acts 9:3-4). He then heard the voice
of Jesus asking “Saul, Saul. Why are you persecuting me.” (Acts 9:4). Blinded by the light, he
continued on and entered the city where he became a Christian. (Acts 9:4-18)
6. After his conversion to Christianity, Paul spent three years in Arabia where he was personally taught
by ____________(Galatians 1:11-12, 15-18)
7. Paul returned to Jerusalem, where he spent much time proclaiming the gospel in the synagogues.
He soon had many enemies who wanted to kill him, but the Lord spoke to him and told him to leave
Jerusalem (Acts 22:18) and that He would send him far away to the ____________(Acts 22:21)
8. Paul then travelled to ____________ in northwest Syria, where he and Barnabas were leaders of
the Christian church there, made up mostly of gentiles (Acts 11).
9. Paul’s first three Missionary journeys all started from _____________.
10. Paul’s fourth and final missionary trip ended in ____________ where he was imprisoned and after
many trials, finally beheaded at the age of about 66 years old.
For answers to above questions, you can open your Bible or find the answers elsewhere in this issue.

Sunday School News I have heard many good comments about the March opening and thank Jessica Draganic for leading the program and for David Karkan sharing his missionary experiences in Thailand. Because Easter Sunday is on the first Sunday of April, the next opening will be April 12. I hope to start out with some singing this time to allow everyone to get into sanctuary before we start the program. There was a lot of excitement from David Arnold, our Sunday School attendance keeper on March 8. He reported that there were at least 40 adults and 21 children attending class! This is one of the best attendance records of this school year. If you are not already attending a class, you are sincerely encouraged to join one and continue to grow in your Christian faith. I am also excited to announce 3 new Kindergarten teachers! Jill McGregor and Laura Thompson teamed up to teach this age group for the first part of the school year. Becky Krieger, Kristy Vollrath and Becky Williams have graciously agreed to team up to teach through the end of May. I am very thankful to all our teachers, past and present, for their continued service to our young people, to Risen Christ and to our Lord. Please don’t hesitate to give me a call or email any suggestions and/or comments. Sincerely in Christ, Jo Baumgardner 740-274-2894 [email protected]

GETTING TO KNOW OUR RISEN CHRIST FAMILY
Norma Kettler
Norma Kettler has been a member of Risen Christ since the beginning when the
church was started with Bible Studies in Pastor Bohlmann’s basement.
She is from the Northwestern Ohio area of Napoleon. She attended and graduated
from Ridgeville Corners Schools there, and then enrolled at Bowling Green University
where she graduated with a degree in Business Education. Following graduation she
worked at Bowling Green for the Director of the Library and then as Secretary to the
Provost.
Norma met her husband Keith when his cousin who lived in Bowling Green
introduced them. They were married and Keith’s job as an Electronics Technician took
them to New Haven, Indiana. They moved to this Dayton/Springfield area when Keith
received an employment offer from the Research Department at the University of Dayton
to work in Electronics Technology there, a job that eventually had him working at Wright
Patterson Air Force Base.
Norma and Keith have a daughter, Karen, and a son David and both are employed
at WPAFB. Norma’s husband Keith died in 1994 following a battle with cancer.
When Karen and David were in Junior High, Norma applied for a part-time
position, (a job that ended up being full-time) working for the Academia Staff in the
Business and Economics Department of Wittenberg University. She says, “Working for
eleven professors can be very interesting.” She continued working there until her
retirement.
Following her retirement from Wittenberg, Norma came to work at Risen Christ
School as the Director of Records and staffs our school office on mornings from 9 till
noon.
At Risen Christ Norma and Sandy Davis were instrumental in organizing and setting up
our church library. She also served as our Church Council Secretary at one time. She continues
to be active in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML). In her leisure time Norma
likes reading, knitting, and working puzzles (especially in winter). She usually attends our 8:00
worship service.
