Barb LyterArtist/Designer On the Surface was created by Barb Lyter in 2010 when she discovered that she could never fi nd the perfect fabric to translate the ideas for her wearable art into reality. All of the fabrics used in the scarves, home textiles and clothing is dyed by hand specifi cally for the project. Embellishments used are hand embroidery, hand painting, beading, crochet, knitting, free motion embroidery and Sashiko embroidery, a 900 year old Japanese technique using traditional materials. All products produced by On the Surface are original designs and no kits or computer embroidery is ever used. Barb’s art is available at Garry Oak Gallery in Oak Harbor and at various shows.
