In 2020 Harper’s Bazaar will continue its focus on making ambitious women more visible. Embracing women who dare to raise their hands

above the crowd and dream big. Which simultaneously inspires the next generation of women to make themselves more visible.

Championing storytelling and the empowerment of women.

Harper’s Bazaar does this through the organisation of Harper’s Bazaar Talks and hosting the annual Women of The Year Awards, which will be

organised for the 6th time in 2020.

Women of the year concept

With the Women of the Year event, Harper’s Bazaar demonstrates that the brand stands for stylish, intelligent

and inspiring women with ambition and power. This concept dovetails perfectly with the Harper’s Bazaar

mission: making ambitious women visible.

In preparation of the Women of The Year dinner and award show, Harper’s Bazaar names a Woman of

the Week each week. The editorial team does this on the harpersbazaar.nl website and through social media. She is a typical Harper’s Bazaar woman who has brought about a change in

her profession. Through this inspiring other women.

At the end of the year from the forty nominated Woman of the Week six

winners are selected: a Woman of the Year National and International, an

Oeuvre award, a prize for the Newcomer of the year, a Business award and a People’s

choice award.

Harper’s Bazaar is assisted in this selection by the Tafel van Twaalf, its advisory board.

The awards are presented during a celebratory dinner in a splendid location in Amsterdam,

featuring top performers.

Women of the Year

The Tafel van Twaalf (Table of Twelve) is an advisory board of twelve women

from various professions who have more than earned their stripes and are

not shy of expressing their opinions. This Table of Twelve came about

through a close collaboration with our WOTY partner IWC.

Award Winners

In the first edition the awards went to television maker Sophie Hilbrand, fashionentrepreneur Livia Firth and talk show host

Sonja Barend.

The second edition saw athlete Marlou van Rhijn,

photographer Newsha Tavakolian and government minister Lilianne

Ploumen as proud winners.

In 2017 the successful presenter Eva Jinek,

cardiologist Harriette Verwey and Women’s March activist

Breanne Butler each took a prize home with them. As a surprise,

fashion designer Ronald van der Kemp received the Wow! Man of

the Year award.

In 2018 the prizes went to Khadija Arib,

Woman of The Year 2018, and Wende Snijder (Oeuvre

Award), Marjolijn Heemstra (Newcomer) and Esther Perel

(International Award).

Last year Halina Reijn received the Woman of the Year 2019 Award. Other winners were:

Igone de Jongh (Ouvre Award), Radna Fabias (Newcomer),

Iris van Herpen (International), Janneke Niessen (Business)

and Adelheid Roosen (People’s choice).

both on the website and on social media

• Midsummer the Tafel van Twaalf, the advisory board, meet

• In the following issue Harper’s Bazaar will present the nominee list, including

the Tafel van Twaalf favorites

• An edition later the shortlist will be presented. Readers will be invited to vote

• In November the celebratory Women of the Year Awards will take place

• In the final edition of the year the winner will be published with an interview

• The first edition of 2021 will report on the dinner and show
