District 15

Women of Today

A lot of life I see in

the perspective of my job. I

provide family childcare for

families in my community.

I find myself reminding the

kids to let others know

their wishes. You always

hear parents and caregiv-

ers using the mantra “use

your words”. This impor-

tant lesson is good for all of

us to hear. If we don’t say

we are sinking it’s not al-

ways going to be apparent

to others. I take this idea

and go a bit further, ask.

When I say ask it

seems pretty basic. If your

chapter is stretched thin,

ask a friend or coworker to

join Women of Today.

Many hands make light

work. If you are unable to

make all the necessary

phone calls for a project

ask for help. Blooming

Prairie did just that, they

were in need of workers for

a bingo project at their

town celebration. They

asked for help and got it!

This enabled them

to celebrate with

their families and

friends and still

complete the project.

{Blooming, I ask you for

cooler weather next time!}

Although the weather was

not the most ideal I was

amazed at the turn out

they received.

DOTS {District

Officer Training} will be in

Blooming Prairie this year

from 9-11:30 at the city

center. I ask you to take

advantage of this. This

event is a great opportu-

nity to get plenty of infor-

mation to help you in your

positions. It is geared to-

ward LPM, {Local Program

Managers} DPM {District

Program Managers} and

board members both local

and district; however I feel

everyone can walk away

with something they can

use so take the opportu-

nity.

Programming is Shining Bright!

My theme this year is “Star

Light, Star Bright, Pro-

gramming is Shining

Bright in District 15”. I

hope you and your chapters

will take advantage of all

that programming has to

offer throughout the year!

There are nine program-

ming areas we participate

in from the state and the

national areas fall under

them as well. The areas

are: Living & Learning

(open), NEWSLET (open),

Public Relations (Brenda

Newell), Records & Recog-

nition (Heather Muhs),

Ways & Means (Mary

Schneiter), Isaac’s Journey

(Stephanie Putzier), Com-

What activities does your chapter have planned for Kids Week, Aug. 18-25? If you need ideas, please see my

MN JOTS CIP. I look forward to hearing about them! My first trimester chapter challenge is for at least 3

members to complete the US WT Family Week certification form. Participating chapters will have their names

in a drawing for a Party Pak at Fall State Convention. Don’t forget to send in a Project of the Trimester nomi-

nation! I have already received one from Mary S. from the Byron chapter!

Angie

Have you made plans to attend Fall State convention? We sure hope so! We are going to

need everyone’s help to make this a success! Thank you to those who have already signed up

to help! Remember, we are asking for at least 5 members from each chapter to help us that

weekend. The areas we need help with are: 9/14—Chapter Information Stuffing 10:30 am to

1:00 pm (Have Linda Kral & Heather Muhs and need at least 4 to 6 more), Registration 7:30

to 10:00 pm (Have Heather M, LeAnn Bieber & Mary S and need 1 more), Service Project

10:15 to 11:00 pm (Have Steph Putzier and need 1 more); 9/15—Registration 8:00 to 10:00

am (3 needed), Business meeting ticket takes 10:15-10:40 am (Have Lisa L & LeAnn B and

need 2 more), Lunch ticket takers (Have Melissa Karst and need 3 more), Banquet ticket

takers (Have Melissa K and need 3 more), Party ticket takers (Have Lisa L and need 3

more), Brunch ticket takers (Need 4).

Our Saturday night party committee has some great fun planned and if you were at the last

national convention held in Rochester, you know our DJ is a blast—you won’t want to miss

it! Also, the service project, pending Ronald McDonald House approval is bags of goodies for

the kids that are staying there. Everyone gets involved putting the items in the bags—we

would also like to ask that members bring pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House that

weekend. More on this soon!

A date will soon be set for the next committee meeting. Be watching email for that—we do

want your help and we will be determining some dates to get together to make the programs

and table decorations. We would like to thank our committee for all they have been doing

and will be doing—JoAnn Miller, Barb Kyllo, LeAnn Bieber, Heather Muhs, Cindy Golbuff,

Lynn Borchert, Brenda Newell, Steph Putzier, Michelle McGowan, and Angie Jensen!

More Personal Messages

Hi, everyone! I thought I’d take this opportunity to let you know what I’m doing in Women of Today this

year. I was honored to be asked to serve as your state secretary this year by our new president, Nicky Ander-

son. It’s proving to be a challenge, but I LOVE a good challenge. I’m learning Microsoft Publisher as I

publish the Chapter Mailing Highlights (CMH). These are published nine (9) times a year, and are mailed to

each chapter, chapter president, chapter state delegate, and to all Executive Council members. If you’ve

never seen one, ask your president about it. It contains short articles from each of the state staff members

and each of the State Program Managers (SPMs). I am always looking for short poems or other items to use

as filler in the CMH, so if you have something that you think would be of interest to other Women of Today

members, please send it to me at [email protected] or [email protected].

I am also serving as Records and Recognition (RR) Local Program Manager (LPM) for the Byron chapter

this year. Having served as the SPM for RR last year, I felt I would enjoy submitting Success this year in-

stead of verifying everyone else’s submissions.

I think this will be a challenging, but fun, year for me and for all the Women of Today members. We need to

grow our organization throughout the year, so go out and start finding those new members! I hope everyone

had a safe and happy Fourth of July and that I’ll see many of you at the Fall State Convention that District 15

(that’s us!!) is putting on in Rochester on September 14th through 16th at the DoubleTree Hotel!
