COURSE OVERVIEW
The main objective of this annual conference is to educate our colleagues regarding the identification, prevention and intervention of mental health disorders in pregnancy and postpartum.
This is also an opportunity for sharing ideas and networking with colleagues from a range of backgrounds – health practitioners (e.g. psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, social workers, clinical staff), other health professionals, researchers and academics.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The intent of the conference is for learners to:
• discuss paternal perinatal mental health
• review ADHD in perinatal mental health
• discuss engagement and attachment in the family
• consider reducing barriers to treatment, stigma and its impact

Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers and Other Health Professionals, Midwives, Pharmacists, Residents and Trainees

Daniel B Singley PhD ABPP
Dr Singley is a San Diego-based board certified psychologist and Director of The Center for Men’s Excellence. His research and practice focus on men’s mental health with a particular emphasis on reproductive psychology and the transition to fatherhood. He is Past President
of the American Psychological Association’s Section on Positive Psychology and currently serves on the Board of the APA’s Society for the Psychological Study of Men and Masculinity as well as Postpartum Support International. He conducts trainings and presentations around the country to assist individuals and organizations to enhance their level of father inclusiveness and founded the grant-funded Basic Training for New Dads, Inc nonprofit in order to give new fathers the tools they need to be highly engaged with their infants as well as their partners. In his free time, Dr Singley likes to cook, surf, read and take his two sons on hikes to get muddy and throw rocks at things. Follow him @MenExcel and facebook.com/MenExcel/

• review mental illness stigma and the risks inherent in treatment decisions in the perinatal period
• review awareness of the extent to which stigma impacts decisions about receiving treatment, and specifically medication treatment, during pregnancy and the postpartum period
• review awareness of the risks of untreated depression and anxiety in the perinatal period
• review awareness of the treatment risks in depressed and anxious pregnant and postpartum women

• review how to teach parents how to safely and effectively train their infant to sleep through the night

DRESS
Dress is business casual. Sweaters or items of clothing that can be layered are recommended since temperature in the venue may fluctuate.
MEALS
In general, each course offers a light breakfast, nutrition break(s) and lunch. We are sensitive to dietary requirements (for example, gluten free, peanut allergies) and do our best to offer a variety of options; however we are unable to guarantee that all dietary needs can be accommodated.
SCENT FREE
To ensure the comfort of everyone attending this event, please do not wear scented products.
CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION
On-line registration confirmation is automatic after registering on-line. A tax receipt will be sent approximately 2 weeks after registering.
For all other methods of registration (mail, fax), confirmation will be in the form of a tax receipt. No other confirmation will be sent. Please allow 2 weeks for registration processing.
COURSE CANCELLATION POLICY
The Office of Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development reserves the right to cancel the course if there are insufficient registrations.
REFUND POLICY
A registration refund will be made upon written request if made at least 2 weeks before the start of the program. However $50 will be retained for administrative costs. No refunds will be available for cancellations made within 2 weeks of the start of the program and thereafter. NOTE: Refunds are processed only on the return of original receipt. All receipts must be returned within 30 days after program date.
REIMBURSEMENT OF REGISTRATION FEES
Physicians may be eligible for reimbursement of registration fees and expenses to attend CME courses from a fund administered by the Alberta Medical Association. For more information regarding this, please call the AMA at 780.482.2626 or 1.800.272.9680.
