ST PPERY We have a mountain of lost property, some with names and some without and some are even casual
clothing. If your child is missing or in need of uniform, please come and check our Lost Property Room and
Cupboards.
We also have a multitude of various toys and bits & pieces that are handed into the office on a daily
basis. Things such as dolls, cars, children’s jewellery, even lunch containers and drink bottles. If your child
has lost a favourite toy or item, please ask them to come and check at the office.
SICKNESS It is that time of year when quite a lot of sickness presents in the community. There
have been reports of tonsillitis, school sores, chicken pox, and gastro.
School is a very tight knit community of children. They spend a lot of their time in class
learning closely together. Therefore, if you have a child who is unwell it is best to keep them at home until
they are well enough to attend school again. This will also prevent your child from having a
setback and becoming unwell again.
If your child is unwell, please call the office to let us know.

From the Principal Congratulations to our boys Softball Team, who yesterday won their way to become the State Champions. What a fantastic result! Your dedication, focus and endless hours of practice have certainly paid off. Thanks also to Bek Vagg, Will Rankin and Michelle Mabilia for your work and support of the team. Parent, Student, Teacher Conferences are running on Monday and Tuesday afternoon and early evening. Our students have been working on composing significant parts of their school reports and are very excited to share their learning with you. I am currently reading all of the student reports and I am so impressed with the level of reflective comments that our students have compiled. As a parent myself, I wish that I had these types of reports to look back on and celebrate with my children. If you haven’t booked your spot, please do so ASAP! Bookings are filling up quickly. With the recent unexpected absence of Andrew Inglis over the past couple of weeks, I am postponing the Parent, Student, Teacher Conferences for 5/6D. We wish Andrew a speedy recovery and will make plans with him on his return. Thank you for your understanding. As it happens every year, our staffing changes with exciting next steps for people. At the end of the year we will be saying farewell to: Jenna Elliot, who is off to Western Australia for the year. Emma Wilkinson, who will be commencing at Bittern Primary School. Cassie Pearce, who will be commencing at Morwell Central Primary School. Chris Terlich and Ruth Chambers have extended their leave from WPS for another 12 months. Kylie Horton and Jenny Alder, who have and will continue to be wonder-ful supports to our school, just wearing different hats in 2019. Joining us in 2019 will be:
Ashleigh Jordan, an experienced teacher who is currently employed at Elwood Primary School and previously at Fish Creek Primary School. Craig Leifting, a very experienced teacher, who is currently employed at Bass Valley Primary School. Ramanjot Chahal, a graduate teacher who cannot wait for next year to begin! And we welcome back, Tammy Grimley will continue with us in a full time capacity. We are currently organising for our new staff to join us on State-wide Transition Day, Tuesday 11th December. Please make them very welcome. On Tuesday 11th December we will also be welcoming our 2019 Prep stu-dents. There will be an informal information session in the Step into Prep room on the day (starting around 9.30), with morning tea, tissues and some surprises. This session will run for about 1 hour. Will Rankin and I have been working through some plans to engage our Grades 1, 2, 3 and 4s in swimming this Term. We are hoping to have all details confirmed by the end of this week, notices and consents will go home next week. Our clear swimming focus has always been the program offered in Term 1 and our pool is scheduled to be open again for the start of the 2019 school year. In the past (when our pool has been operational), we have had the opportunity to swim in Term 4 when the weather allows. As you can
imagine, there have been years where we haven’t been in the pool at all in Term 4, such is the unpredictability of South Gippsland weather.
Next week we welcome back Ruth Chambers and her band of musicians for our annual Artist in Residence Program. Ruth will be working will all grade levels over the week teaching songs and bush dances. The week culminates with the family picnic and whole school performance on Friday afternoon and into the early evening. This is a great night, so make sure that you have it on your calendar. At this stage the weather looks fine and we are keeping our fingers crossed that this can be an outdoor event. Without giving anything away, you might want to ensure that you have your dancing shoes on….

Artist in Residence
3-7th December Friday the 7th of December:
BBQ starts from 4:30pm onwards
Concert starts 6:00pm promptly
We are very excited to announce that our Artist for next weeks Artist in Residence celebrations is Ruth
McKittrick Chambers. She is a well known and much loved local teacher and musician. She has taught two
generations of primary school students in the Bass Coast area, led local singing groups and been an active
community advocate for making learning accessible for people of all ages. Since taking Leave from her
Music and Oral Literacy teaching job here at WPS, Ruth has travelled the Northern Hemisphere working and
learning about world's best practice in education, particularly for reluctant learners. With her late husband
Pete, she also returned to West Arnhem Land (NT) and engaged remote Indigenous students in Music
Programs to engage and enhance Literacy learning.
Next week, Ruth will be working with our students in a music/dance program acknowledging identity and a
sense of place. Students will learn songs which celebrate Wonthaggi; local places, local relics and local
languages (Boon Wurrung, Italian and English). Students will also learn a number of bush dances that fami-
lies will be invited to participate with on Friday night when Ruth will be joined by members of her extended
family, staff and students to provide a big, live band! This will support our students as they showcase their
learning. See Pirili Chapman or Marc Ibrahim for further details.
