Students are being reminded of these expectations by teachers and we ask for parent cooperation also. Every child’s safety is our concern.

Student behaviour and social media Our school strives to manage student behaviours and the values students demonstrate on a daily basis. We understand that students come from different homes and backgrounds and that we have to meld these individuals into a cohesive group that can work, play and interact successfully on a daily basis. At times this can present some challenges, especially when students are involved with social media.

The faceless nature of social media means that people cannot see the impact of what they write to know when and if they have gone too far. This is where social media is at its most dangerous.I am aware that some students in our school are in breach of Facebook’s requirement that people are at least 13 years of age to open an account. This is not endorsed by the school and I ask parents to consider their own duty of care to protect your own children and the damage that can be caused to others. What is intended as harmless by our relatively immature students can have profound effects on others.

Being a parent is not easy and sometimes saying no to children may be challenging, although in their best interests.

Issues that affect behaviour at school that are linked to social media (something that cannot be accessed by students on school devices) is very difficult to manage effectively. Whilst we will do our best, we rely on the support and cooperation of parents beyond our school gate. I look forward to this cooperation being provided.

IPods and other devices I have seen of late a growing number of electronic devices coming to school. This is not encouraged

and I remind students and parents that this is done at the owner’s risk. If the device is valuable, important or special in any way it is probably best left at home. Mobile phones are also not expected to be at school. Where a student needs to bring a phone for transport to and from school reasons, these should be left at the school office during the day. Phones that are found in student possession during the school day will be confiscated and held until collected by a parent. Students should therefore be aware that devices that are necessary for travel purposes should follow the expected routine each day.

Until next week....

SRC NewsTerm One Entertainment Night

The theme for the night is ‘Epic’, so you could come along as a whacky botanist or wear green to hide out in the forest.

This FRIDAY 7 March from 5.30 pm to 8.00 pm so come and join us.

The entry cost remains the same; $5 per student or $12 per family, this includes a sausage sizzle, drink and a treat. Please send along a plate of ‘yummies’ for us to sell. Sending spending money with some change is always helpful.

We look forward to having a great night. Tracey TebbuttSRC Patron

National Ride 2 School DayWednesday 19 March is National Ride 2 School Day for 2014 and excitement is mounting as we get closer to the day.Children will be discussing safety procedures about riding to school on the weeks leading up to the day. On the day we will celebrate and share our experiences, we will also discuss any issues that occurred as they travelled to school. The children will also be participating in a colouring/design competition. Data will be collected and sent to the organiser of National Ride to School Day for nationwide collation.

A few reminders for the day include:• School gates will be open as normal to allow parents and students to walk, ride or skate.• Riders/skaters to wear helmets.• To ensure security of the bikes and

scooters, students are to place their bikes on the bike rack.• Parents can assist by riding or walking to school with their children to ensure safety procedures are followed.• Students who travel by bus can also get into the spirit by ensuring that they follow the safety procedures needed for safe bus travel.
