WELCOME TO SUMMER CAMP!

CAMP PHILOSOPHY We are excited you’re joining us for camp at Woodward Park City this summer! Woodward Park City is part of a world-wide experiential action sports collective with a leading role in supporting youth culture and action sports. We strive to empower and inspire the next generation by stoking the passions of the most passionate athletes. We do this by building innovative environments to encourage exploration in sport and promote self-discovery. We do this by creating intuitive programming that encourages you to discover your passions and paths with the freedom to try, learn and progress on your own terms. And we do this with our passionate staff who share unmatched stoke by creating unique and fun experiences.

This parent guide is designed to help you prepare for your Woodward camp experience. There are a number of policies and expectations explained throughout this guide. Please review this guide and share appropriate information with your camper.

THE WOODWARD WAY The Woodward Way describes the values of our co-ed camp community so that everyone engages in positive behaviors that support a safe, inclusive and fun environment. Woodward expects all campers to:

1. Be kind to others and treat others as you want to be treated. Please refrain from fighting, aggressive or threatening behavior, bullying, or harassment of any sort. 2. Use positive language that empowers and shows others around you how using words of support builds confidence. 3. Reduce, reuse and recycle. Compost, conserve and clean-up. Let's ensure we play forever. 4. Wear your helmet at all times because single and repeated blows to your head are harmful. 5. Always listen to your coach and other Woodward Staff. Come to them for help and ask lots of questions. 6. Respect property and refrain from stealing, graffiti and vandalism of any kind.

7. Stay within camp boundaries at all times and never go anywhere alone. Use the buddy system with a fellow camper.

8. Leave weapons and other hazardous or combustible materials at home. This includes firearms, knives, mace, fireworks, and anything that's dangerous.

9. Woodward is a smoke, drug, and alcohol free zone. This includes marijuana, tobacco, juuls, e-cigarettes and any other substances or paraphernalia that are inappropriate at camp.

We appreciate your understanding of The Woodward Way and look forward to ensuring each camper develops and contributes to a positive camp environment. Violating the Woodward Way may result in disciplinary action including sending a camper home immediately and with no refund.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Woodward Park City has two healthcare centers (a First Aid room and an Athletic Training room) with several certified medical staff on duty every day. Our team is experienced in handling everything from medical emergencies, to sprains and abrasions, concussions, and minor cuts and scrapes. This team is also able to administer prescription medications.

CAMPER ILLNESS POLICY

Woodward believes that individuals thrive at camp when they’re healthy and happy. Illness is a time for resting safely and comfortably at home. Staying home when you’re sick protects you from more significant health issues. It also protects others from a potentially communicable disease by eliminating the exposure.

Campers should arrive to camp energized, nourished, healthy, and hydrated. Woodward Camp reserves the right to not admit persons who pose a communicable disease risk to others. It is our goal for all camp participants to experience Woodward when they’re healthy so they can have the best possible time.

If your child feels ill or has been exposed to a communicable disease, contact your physician for guidance and then notify the camp office to reschedule your camp. It’s in your best interest to stay home when you’re sick. It provides you with the best opportunity to rest and recover without risking more serious complications away from your home and local physician. It also protects the camp community from the spread of illness.

If your child is experiencing any of the below symptoms, please call your physician for guidance and then contact us at 435.658.2648:

Fever- Individuals should remain at home with a fever above 100.4°. Return to camp can be scheduled after the individual has been fever-free for 72 hours (without fever-reducing medicine such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen). Note: Temperature checks will take place during the health intake portion of camper check-in. If an individual has a fever greater than 100.4°, they will be asked to return home and reschedule their camp.

Coughing/Wheezing- Individuals coughing, wheezing, or exhibiting other respiratory symptoms should consider staying home. Individuals experiencing respiratory symptoms combined with fever or other cold symptoms will be asked to return home and reschedule their camp.

Colds- Colds can seem harmless but are communicable and can pose a threat to individual safety and the camp community. If your child displays cold symptoms and/or is generally not feeling well, please stay home. Return to camp can be scheduled when the individual is symptom-free and feels well. Individuals showing symptoms of a cold (runny or stuffy nose, coughing, chills, nasal discharge or sputum) will be assessed during health intake at check-in and may be asked to return home and reschedule their camp.

Vomiting- If your child has vomited within 24 hours of camp arrival, do not come to camp. After an individual has been symptom-free for a minimum of 24 hours, a return to camp can be scheduled. Individuals with an upset stomach or other signs of impending gastrointestinal illness are asked to stay home to protect themselves and the camp community.

Diarrhea- If your child is experiencing diarrhea (multiple loose stools in the last 24 hours), the individual should stay home until the illness passes. After 24 hours symptom-free, a return to camp can be scheduled.

Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): If an individual has pink or red conjunctiva with white or yellow eye discharge, they will not be admitted into camp. After diagnosis by a doctor, individuals who have been taking antibiotics for at least 24 hours may return to camp with their doctor’s permission. Individuals who exhibit signs of pink eye will be assessed during health intake at check-in and may be asked to return home for care.

Head lice: All individuals coming to camp should conduct a home check for head lice before they travel. If any signs of lice are seen, stay home and treat immediately. Once treatment is complete and the individual is nit-free, return to camp can be scheduled. If an individual at camp has any lice, they will be asked to return home and reschedule their camp.

Other communicable illnesses: All individuals should be illness-free when coming to camp. If camper’s health is in question, stay home and contact the camp office to reschedule your camp. During the health intake portion of camper check-in, individuals will be checked for symptoms of communicable conditions and sent home if necessary. Return to camp can be scheduled when appropriate periods of symptom-free time have passed and individual is energized, nourished and hydrated.

CAMPER WELLNESSThis Illness Policy protects individuals and the camp community by reducing the spread of disease. It enables all of us to enjoy camp by keeping health and safety as our top priority. We trust our camp families to follow this policy and contact us anytime there’s a question. When in doubt, stay home and stay safe.

MEDICATIONS

All prescribed and over-the-counter (OTC) medication must be presented to our Health & Safety team during check-in. Medication must be kept in the original bottle complete with camper’s name, medicine name, dosage, provider prescribing the medication, and frequency of when to be taken. Important details about medications:

•Please don’t send medication in a plastic baggie •OTC medication is not allowed in camper bags or lockers including but not limited to ibuprofen, allergy medicine, wound care, vitamins, sore muscle care, Neosporin, and aloe for sunburn. •In order to administer OTC and prescription medication, a Camper Health Form must be completed and all medication must be turned in to the H&S team during check-in.

If your child is prescribed medication or instructed to take medication by his or her physician, but is not currently taking said medication while at camp, we require a note from your physician explaining this decision.

INCIDENTS DURING CAMP

If your child sustains an injury or illness while at camp, rest assured Woodward has professional medical staff to assess the condition. We will notify parents if any of the following occur:

•Your child has been OR will be held from participation for more than an hour

•Your child has a fever, shortness of breath or is vomiting (requires pick up immediately)

•Your child has sustained a head injury

•Your child needs to be sent off campus for medical treatment

CONCUSSIONS & HELMETS

Woodward Park City requires all campers to wear helmets appropriate to the sport they are participating in while at camp. According to the Utah Protection of Athletes with Head Injuries Act, if a camper is suspected of sustaining a concussion or a traumatic head injury, that camper must be immediately removed from activity. The camper is not allowed to return to activity until they have been evaluated by a qualified health care provider who is trained in the evaluation and management of a concussion and receives written clearance to return to play from that health care provider.

A “qualified health care provider" means a health care provider who: (a) is licensed under Title 58, Occupations and Professions; and (b) may evaluate and manage a concussion within the health care provider's scope of practice. The individual must also have, within three years before the day on which the written statement is made, successfully completed a continuing education course in the evaluation and management of a concussion. At Woodward, qualified health care providers include our athletic trainers as well as our medical director and staff.

CHECK IN Daily check-in will take place from 8:30am to 10:00am in the tent outside the Action Sports Hub. We recommend arriving no later than 9:30am on the first day to help ensure the process is completed before orientation starts at 10:00am. Please notify us via email ([email protected]) or phone (435.658.2648) if you are going to arrive late as campers may already be disbursed in small groups across campus. Here are some important details about check-in:

1. Wristbands: Campers will receive a Woodward wristband on the first day of camp if your child does not already have one. Please wear this wristband each day as it provides access to all our amazing indoor and outdoor facilities. There is a $2 fee to replace a lost or forgotten wristband.

2. Health check: Our Health & Safety team will be present each morning for a health screening and to receive any prescription medication. You must provide medication that is correctly labeled in original prescription containers, with the required amount for the day. This is a good time to discuss any specific medical needs, provide directions for administration of medications, or explain any other health related concerns.

3. Equipment storage: Campers may leave backpacks and personal belongings in one of the lockers located inside the Action Sports Hub. We have both paid and unpaid lockers. Please leave bikes, skateboards and scooters outside. Bike locks are highly recommended for added protection.

4. Orientation: Campers will receive a brief orientation on the first day of camp introducing our staff, highlighting our health and behavioral expectations and reviewing schedules for the week.

We are truly excited and honored to engage with your child while at camp. Please reach out any time if you have questions, concerns and other feedback.

CHECK OUT Daily check-out takes place from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at the tent located outside the Action Sports Hub. Authorized individuals with valid identification are the only people who have the ability to check-out your child. We require parents and other authorized individuals to present a government issued I.D. during pick up. Please notify us via email ([email protected]) or phone (435.658.2648) if you are going to arrive early or late for pick up. Here are some important details about check-out:

1. Authorized individuals: campers are permitted to leave only with the individuals indicated on your pick up form. Please include the full legal name as it appears on your I.D. (“mom” or “dad” is not helpful in this instance). If permission has not been granted, we must confirm the arrangement before your child will be released. This is for the protection of your child and is strictly enforced. Changes to authorized persons must be made in writing by submitting a new pick up form 24 hours in advance and sending to [email protected].

2. Campers with cars: if you have a child who will drive himself/herself to camp, please indicate this on your pick up form. Once your child is at camp, he/she is not permitted to leave camp during the day unless we have written authorization from the parent/legal guardian. If authorized, your child must sign out and back in at the front desk.

3. Personal Belongings: remember to take all personal belongings home each afternoon, including medications. Medications will be available at the check-out tent. Any medication left at camp will be held for one week and then shipped back to the parent/legal guardian at their expense.

4. Late fees: campers who are checked-out after 5:30pm will be charged $25.

If your child is staying for a public session after camp hours, we require written notification 24 hours in advance via email to [email protected]. Since our members and the general public has limited access to Woodward before 4:00pm, we cannot guarantee space will be available for your child to stay after camp. Check-out is a great time to connect with coaches and other Woodward staff. We love to share stories of the day as well as progress towards camper goals.

Woodward Peace Park is a collaborative partnership between Woodward and Danny Davis – a Grand Prix Winner, X Games Gold Medalist, Dew Tour Champion, and a U.S. Olympic Snowboard athlete. Danny Davis founded Peace Park in 2011 with the hopes of breaking traditional terrain park formulas and reinventing freestyle terrain with a focus on transition, creativity, !ow and fun. Today’s Woodward Peace Park expands on Danny’s original vision by making Peace Park open to the public and allowing more people to enjoy it at different Woodward Mountain Park locations across the country.

PHONE CALLS & EMAIL Our Guest Services team is available every day from 8:30am - 8:00pm by calling 435-658-2648 or emailing [email protected]. We will be sure to pass along any urgent messages to your camper as soon as possible.

CELL PHONE POLICY We strongly encourage campers to leave cell phones at home so your child gets the full benefits of the camp environment. Please consider the following when deciding if you want to send your child to camp with a cell phone:

•Woodward Park City is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones •Cell phones should only be used for communication purposes; any inappropriate use of cell phones and the content within can result in your camper’s removal from camp •Woodward Park City reserves the right to confiscate a cell phone if deemed necessary by staff

SICK & SAD CAMPERS Many people, young and old, experience feelings of homesickness when faced with a new experience. Should your child express feelings of homesickness or otherwise not want to participate, please notify us as soon as possible and we will work closely with you and your child to alleviate the problem. Understandably, parents may feel helpless when they hear their child upset over the phone. Resist the urge to make promises about picking your child up or visiting during the day. A visit from home interrupts their day, takes their attention from new friends and fun activities, and often spawns or exasperates homesickness. Please collaborate with us to help make camp a positive experience for your child that they see through to the end.

SPENDING MONEY There are opportunities for your child to spend money while at camp if you so allow. Although we provide a filling lunch, your child may want to purchase an extra snack or refreshing drink during the day. We also have a retail shop full of Woodward souvenirs as well as action sports equipment parts and supplies. Finally, some of our rec activities have an additional fee such as CreateAskate (for the skateboard deck and grip tape) and Tie-dye (for the t-shirt). Make sure to discuss spending money with your camper prior to camp and educate your child on appropriate uses for any spending money.

We are offering an e-gift card option that your camper can use at any of our retail and food outlets. You can load a specific amount of money online, and re-load at any time while your child is at Woodward. You will be able to see all purchases made by your child. Here is the link to purchase a gift card prior to your child’s camp session: https://squareup.com/gift/GKZMJ59Q8KP8D/order.

CAMP CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY Changes of summer camp programs must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Every effort will be made to re-schedule your camp session before August 2021. Cancellations made at least 48 hours in advance will be charged a 10% processing fee. Cancellation of summer camp within 48 hours of the first day is non-refundable.
