HOTEL PONTE SISTOThis four star hotel - see www.hotelpontesisto.it - once a religious house with a pleasant courtyard garden. All rooms are provided with (wc and shower or bath) facilities, air-conditioning, direct dial telephones and tv. There are several lifts. The hotel offers a large buffet breakfast and has a bar. The hotel, near the Lungotevere, is within easy walking distance of the many of the sites within the ‘centro storico’ and the Vatican. This hotel has often been used by pilgrimage groups visiting Rome, attending conferences at the Venerable English College or Consistories for English Cardinals or for English Archbishops receiving their pallium.

The hotel, originally known as the Casa Pallotti, contains the church of San Salvatore in Onda which was given

to St Vincent Pallotti when he was establishing his missionary society. His remains lie underneath the high altar. Almost everything visible in the church is 19th century, except the mixed assortment of ancient Roman columns. The dedication is translated as the church of the Holy Saviour of the Waves from the days when the River Tiber regularly flooded much of medieval Rome.

FITNESSRome, a city built on seven hills, is best seen on foot so a reasonable level of fitness is required for sightseeing. Also due to the number of steps in and around the major attractions of Rome, this tour is unfortunately not suitable for those with walking difficulties.
