Historical/Biographical Notes

Milton Prince Higgins, 1842-1912, was one of the founders of the Norton Company andSuperintendent of the Washburn Shops at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, as well as beinginvolved in many other Worcester industries. Higgins married Katherine E. Chapin and had twosons, Aldus Chapin Higgins and John Woodman Higgins, and two daughters, Katherine ElizabethHiggins and Olive Chapin Higgins. Higgins was also a director of Mechanics National Bank, andmember of the Worcester Club. He was also one of the founders of Worcester Boys TradeSchool. Higgins died in Worcester in 1912.

S c o p e a n d C o n t e n t

The collection comprises correspondence between members of the Eliggins family from ca. 1870sto ca. 1900, as well as youthful writings by Aldus Higgins and some of his sibhngs. Thecollection also includes a wedding invitation, calhng and business cards, and clippings of funeralsand the opening of the New York Subway system.
