Jeremiah 18:1-6

One of the striking features of the prophets of God in the Old

Testament was their frequent use of the most graphic

illustrations to make spiritual points to their hearers.

Isaiah talked about a bed that was too short and bedclothes that

were too small, and it makes his hearers think about the struggle

to get a good night’s sleep under those circumstances.

Jeremiah uses the wonderful word picture telling of our relationship with God. Jeremiah said

that there was a potter who was making a pot on the wheel. He shaped it and formed it. “God

is the potter, and we are the clay” says Jeremiah.

That is very true; If we allow God to be the potter and we allow ourselves to be the clay. In

that regard it is up to each of us. Every time we worship Him, every time we read God’s word,

every time we speak to Him in prayer, we allow him to speak to us and to mold us into the

person he has created us to be.

It is a wonderful realization to know that the same God who created the heavens and the

earth, who has shaped the mountains and the rivers, would like to create something even

more wonderful.

God in his love for each one of us, would like to shape and mold our lives just as surely and

just as well as the potter formed the clay upon the wheel.

To turn us, as followers of His Son Jesus, into something useful and something beautiful.

2018 Commitment Compassion Cooperation I command you to love one another as I have loved you. John 15: 12

Welcome to spring time in Arizona! As we go forward through the month of March experiencing the Lenten season walk with our Lord, we become aware of nature regenerating her beautiful colors and fragrances. Each and every one of them is a wonderful reminder of God’s blessings.

Speaking of blessings: We send a big thank you to everyone who gave your time and energies to work on this year’s Rummage Sale. We were blessed with lots of helpers from the very first day of sorting and cleaning, through sale days and Saturday’s cleanup/reset of the church for Sunday worship and fellowship. We are very thankful for all of you and your help. Our thanks to everyone who shopped/bought items that you worked so hard to clean and display. This Rummage Sale brought a record setting income for our Women’s Fellowship/Men’s Club projects, which also benefits our church programs.

As this issue of the Roadrunner is released, we hope you are making plans to attend our special Easter Sunday events:

• 6:00AM — Easter Sunrise Service is held in the patio area in front of the church.

• Easter Breakfast — Sunrise service is followed by Easter Breakfast served in Alexander Hall. Our Men’s Club is cooking this feast. Please sign up on the breakfast list that is posted on the small bulletin board in Alexander Hall. Our cooks need to know how many of us will attend. Our thanks to all of them for giving our church family this special Easter treat.

• 9:30AM — Easter Sunday worship service in the sanctuary.

Easter is special because of our Lord’s perfect gift of love. You also make it special because you share part of your day with us in worship, fellowship and celebration.

— 2018 Moderator, Bonnie Shetley

The following members and friends of our congregation have

passed away since our last Roadrunner edition. Our thoughts and

prayers go out to their loved ones:

SWEAT SHOP SORORITY “Not all leaders love, serve, and care. But, all who love, serve, and care are leaders.”

Our Sweat Shop gals certainly came out in force to help at the annual church Rummage Sale. We all found it rewarding on every level, not the least of which was great fellowship and getting to know others better.

We have gotten great response about the quilted centerpieces in Alexander Hall that we made, and we have decided to make more to go with the holiday season. The additional centerpieces are in collaboration with Women’s Fellowship and in honor of Mabel Kearney.

We continue to do housecleaning and organizing of our supplies. Bob Klobuchar donated so many wonderful crafts to our group in memory of Vivian. We are very thankful and miss her greatly. Our dear Phyllis Spross had a back operation on March 12th and is recovering well. Another dear member, Jean Brenn, fractured her leg but is now up and about.

As always, we would love having you stop by and check out our group out anytime, We meet the first and third Monday of the month from 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM. We always welcome new ideas! Marcia Lynk Sweat Shop Sorority

On Thursday, April 12th, we will have a Game Day. It will be at 11 AM and men and women are welcome. Bring a friend, your favorite game, and a brown bag lunch. For Mother’s Day, Women’s Fellowship will have flowers in the sanctuary to honor all mothers.

Chrismons are Christian symbols. In the time of Christ, they used symbols to find one another. Earliest ones were the fish, anchor, sheep, and staff. They carved these symbols like road signs, leading Christians to other Christians and places of worship. For Christmas this year, the idea is to make them with simple designs (Internet downloads) mostly from felt with bits of ricrac, lace, ribbon, or whatever trimmings (no sewing, beads or glitter). Then, we will use these with just white or gold bulbs for decorating the church Christmas trees. You will hear more about this project soon. Ginger Hamilton will be asking for the congregation to be involved in making the Chrismons, which may be a good summer project.

DEACONS’ CORNER

Thank you for allowing me to expound on some thoughts for enriching our daily experience as we walk “in the way of Jesus”!

Sometimes the Answer’s “No!” by Clay Harrison

We often ask for selfish things that we don’t really need,

But God has never promised He would satisfy our greed.

We can’t all be rich or famous and live in luxury.

Someone must wash the dishes And plant the apple tree.

Everybody loves the winner Who captures first place,

But no one can remember The others in the race.

Sometimes the things we pray for Were never meant to be,

And because we don’t receive them,. We doubt His love, you see.

God hears every prayer we utter Wherever we may go,

And if He does not answer It could mean the answer’s “No!”

Good deeds are twice a blessing, benefitting both the giver and the receiver.

Eleanor Poe Deacons’ Chair

We “the church” would like a list of men and women who have an expertise from former occupations or hobbies, who could be called upon to perform such duties, to help our church and give you a place to expand your talents. This includes expertise in the areas of landscaping, trimming bushes, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, painting (interior and exterior), or any other areas you could perform to help in the upkeep of our church property and grounds. If you would like to be part of our volunteer pool, please call: • Scotty MacCleary: 623-561-2542 • Bob Pilling: 623-203-2537

Your help is appreciated and welcomed. Join the pool and make a splash! Scotty MacCleary & Bob Pilling Board of Trustees
