Bob DylanRobert Allen Zimmerman was born on May 24, 1941, is an American singer-songwriter, musi-cian and artist. He has been an influential figure in popular music and culture for five decades. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s when he was an informal chronicler and a seemingly reluctant figurehead of social unrest.

Robert Rauschenberg Rauschenberg’s enthusiasm for popular culture and his rejection of the angst and seriousness of the Abstract Expressionists led him to search for a new way of painting. He found his signature mode by embracing materials traditionally out-side of the artist’s reach. He would cover a can-vas with house paint, or ink the wheel of a car and run it over paper to create a drawing, while dem-onstrating rigor and concern for formal painting.

Introduction In pairs we worked on this project exploring the relationship between moving words and images. We were asked to make a 90sec video, which links words and images through move-ment. We were given a poet/artist, an artist and sound files. Conveniently we had Bob Dylan who is an amazing singer-songwriter, musician and artist. We were asked to chose a song/poem, at first we decided to do Mr. Tambourine Man. Then we realised that we had to stay away from choosing a well known song, so after doing some development work we decided to change the song. That’s when we came across ‘Hurri-cane’ which it is based on a real story about the boxer Rubin Carter.

A2- STORY BOARD

Page 10: Words in motion

This story board includes PSD file of the newspaper (edited), song lyrics (27 lines from the Hurricane), initial images of stills and different materi-als used, and a brief explanation of movements for after effect.

We did this so we could have a clearer understanding when working on af-ter effects. This made it easier to or-ganise the files and animate them. It shows the movements for the lines of the song. It is a long song, that’s why we decided to only do 27 lines which explain our opinion of the song.

After doing our our Photoshop PSD files we moved on to after effects. It was a struggle as we had never really used it before. These are some of the screen shots of our devel-opment, which shows the transicion between line 6-11.

Ink on paper-

When doing this test our aim was to see what patterns we could create with the ink on paper. We added some water on the paper and then dropped the red ink, whilst taking photographs of the ink spreading across the water. It would be interesting to work with ink to create images and words but we felt like quite a few people were using this method. So we wanted to experiment with more materials so create something unusual or a little bit different.
