ORGANISATION Præstø Outdoor is a volunteer-driven organization of people who are passionate about building communities, improving people’s health and enjoying nature through outdoor sports such as mountain biking, trail running and climbing. Most of their activities currently take place in Faksinge Forest near the lovely little town of Præstø one hour south of Copenhagen. Faksinge forest already has an excellent mountain bike trail, which is open to the public all year round, and Præstø Outdoor

wish to establish a running trail with several obstacles and natural parkour areas along with it. They would also like to build a trail centre – a simple structure where people can meet, find shelter, share information, wash their equipment and have a barbecue or cup of coffee. For hosting you on this camp Præstø Outdoor are collaborating with Bosei Folkhighschool, which is placed inside Faksinge Forest and is the home of approx. 70 students, mainly aged 20-30, who are interested in sports, Japanese culture and personal development. This means that they are more than used to hosting and offering a wide range of fun activities for young people. Bosei is currently working towards more sustainability and is among other things wanting to start producing their own organic vegetables. You can visit Bosei’s webpage here: https://www.bosei.dk/en/ Or see a video of the place here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uQa0KApvYY

LOCATION AND LEISURE

Apart from working, you will, of course, have time to participate in all sorts of activities at the school and in the local area. REMARKS (other information)

Volunteers are expected to follow the rules of the school. We want to make sure that you appreciate, that our workcamp is not a party camp - but a camp where we meet each other in a mutual understanding of a wish, to share culture from the world. All work will be outdoors, quite physical and mainly in the forest no matter the weather. Although it is generally nice in Denmark this time of year, you can never know, so you must be prepared to face both sunshine and rain and get some dirt on your hands. People, who are used to work with their hands in combination with artistic skills, will be preferred to the work camp and volunteers are expected to be ready to share their culture with the other participants and students at the school. Special motivation letters and other requirements may be attached to the info-sheet.

As the festival will take place in the woods, we can unfortunately not receive participants with disabilities.

LOCATION Skalsskoven, 9240 Nibe

ORGANISATION Nibe Festival is the 6. largest music festival in Denmark. It includes music of all sorts, but mostly Pop and Rock spread out on more than 100 concerts during the entire festival. There are 5 different stages which have different target groups. • The Big stage • Blue stage • Reservatet • The Jazz cave

Page 12: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

• One stage on the Camp Nibe Festival first saw the light of day back in 1985 and takes place in late June to early July. It is located out in a forest called Skalskoven which gives a really special vibe and it is only 500 meters from downtown Nibe. Every year almost 4.700 volunteers come together before, during and after the festival to make sure all is perfect. This means that all earnings are used to support local associations in Nibe and a lot of different cultural subjects in all of the north of Jutland. Nibe Festivals Teamleader for Sustainability will be your leader during the Work Camp You can read more about the event on Nibe Festival's Webpage: https://nibefestival.dk/forside.aspx This year is the 5th Work Camp on Nibe Festival

WORK The work will take place before and after the Festival where we will be in charge of building/putting up and taking down – Fences, tents, festival-bars, floors and much more. We are working with sustainability as well. There will be a lot of other volunteers which makes it a wonderful place to socialize, making friends and get that special connection with peers that might last a lifetime. Remember that we are “off duty” during the festival and therefore are forced to enjoy ourselves and listen to good music in between work ;-) We will be working together in teams before and after the festival between 09.30-20.00

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

We will be sleeping two and two in tents in a quiet area at the festival. You will have to bring your own sleeping madras and sleeping bag and what else you must need for you to sleep in a tent. It is a very nice modern tent, but still a tent. Remember that we are going to work outdoors and sleep outdoors, so bring warm clothes. The weather might be cold and most definitely will be at night, and the Danish summer always includes a bit of rain.

Page 13: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

The festival will provide food for all the participants and you won’t have to cook. Vegetarian food is always an option. Before and after the festival, you will be served three meals a day and this includes drinks. During the festival, you will receive food vouchers and you will be given a water bottle, which you can fill in one of the water tanks there are placed all over the campsite. You are also welcome to bring your own water bottle. The will be bathroom facilities near the tents.

LOCATION AND LEISURE

The Festival is close to Nibe city and therefore there is a lot of possibilities. Shopping, going to the harbour for a dip, nice cafes. Nibe is also very close to Aalborg, Denmark’s 5th largest city with a rich cultural life and lots of possibilities. Please contact us if you have any suggestions about things you want to do or go see – then we’ll see if we can work something out You are each expected to give us and the other volunteers a little lecture about your country – may it be a presentation, a language course or anything that provides us with some basic knowledge about you and your culture. You decide how you want to structure it; it just has to last for about 10 minutes. Just be free and creative.

REMARKS (other information)

English will be the only language spoken. All participants must be willing to speak English, even though being from the same country or having troubles with the English language. Try your best!

A sustainable and equitable economy Holding governments and businesses accountable for creating a just society, with sustainable production, consumption and investment. And ensure that young men and women have opportunities to create a decent life foundation. 3. Social Cohesion To bridge and create mutual respect between people - both locally and globally. We want to counteract the divide and polarization of people who are currently threatening stable and democratic communities. HOW? 1. Organization - we enable people to act for themselves 2. New alliances - we connect and strengthen popular movements 3. Sustainable alternatives - we rethink solutions to world problems 4. Documentation and analysis - we build our work on people's own analyzes of their reality 5. Enlightenment and campaign - we engage people and challenge decision-makers For each volunteer at the Roskilde festival, we receive 1000 DKK (approx. 150 EU) for various support projects around the world. THE PROJECT The work camp project goal is for the work camp volunteers to join our MS community of volunteers, doing the same tasks together to create cooperation and solidarity, while maintaining the smooth operation of the volunteer base and creating a better social environment through various social events at the campsite.

Page 17: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

WORK The purpose of the work is to maintain the volunteer camping area, so the volunteers that stay there are able to have the best experience as possible. The tasks will involve patrolling around the camp together with other volunteers, checking peoples wristbands at the entrance of the camp and helping the supervisors facilitate and create fun social events every day at the camp. The working hours will consist of around 8-hour working shifts for patrolling duty. These are divided by 3 shifts a night. One in the morning, one in the evening and one in the night. Each volunteer has to do at least 4 (one of them has to be a night shift and one has to be during the music days). The shifts for working with the supervisor to make events might start in the morning, and will involve discussion, practical manual work in setting it up and facilitating it and should not take longer than 8 hours also. The frequency of these is yet to be decided. But should be expected to have at least 2 or 3 work camp participants helping the supervisor every day.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Sleeping facilities: Tents and sleeping bags (It will be attempted to reserve a space so that all Work Camp volunteers are able to stay at the same place. The supervisors will also be staying there). As of now, it might be necessary to bring your own tent and sleeping bag. In the near future, we might update the information if we are able to get some tents set up before arrival from what we have currently. SLEEPING BAGS ARE STILL A NECESSITY! Kitchen + bathroom facilities: There will be a possibility to cook some food, at the volunteer camp base (something basic). After every shift, the volunteer is given food tickets, that can be used anywhere in the festival. (It is one ticket per shift). It is possible to buy some food in the town of Roskilde (It should take no longer than 20 minutes to get to a store). There will be camping showers available at the volunteer camping similar to these ones:

Page 18: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

In term of Laundry, it is possible to do this at the festival, as the festival offers laundry services very close to the volunteer camping for a price (Around 50 DKK per wash).

LOCATION AND LEISURE

The whole town of Roskilde will be consumed by the festival. During Leisure time, when not on shift the volunteers are welcome to join the music that will be taking place on various stages. There are many bands coming and it can be seen here: https://www.roskilde-festival.dk/en/line-up/ In terms of exploring the town or local area, there are a few attractions and could be seen here: https://www.visitroskilde.com/

REMARKS (other information)

The festival is the biggest one in Denmark and this will be the 75th anniversary so expect something special. It is generally surrounded by good vibes and amazing people. And all of your participation and help also supports us, as we get more budget for the various projects around the world. The work is generally placed outdoors. The weather in Denmark is unpredictable even though the festival is taking place during the summer, it might be important to bring a waterproof coat, some sweaters for the evening. But also some shorts and flip flops because if the heatwave hits like a few years ago, it will be extremely warm. The language that will be spoken throughout the work will be English therefore it is mandatory that all participants speak it. Please do not be intimidated that some of your fellow volunteers may not be able to or are too shy to start speaking in English. Everyone is generally nice and are able to speak English. Previous experience is not needed, as you will be instructed fully on what the work consists of. It is not hard work but could be seen as slow sometimes. Concerning the events, it might be a plus if you have some experience in facilitating and creating events.

VOLUNTEERS WITH DISABILITIES

We want everybody to feel welcome to join our Work Camp, and that also includes volunteers with disabilities. But we also want to inform you that there might be hills and staircases to/from where you are going to live.

LOCATION Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland

ORGANISATION The Danish NGO ‘Greenlandic Children’ has been making projects for children and youth in Greenland since 1924. We have been doing work camps every summer since 2014. Association Greenland Children is cooperating with the local community in the town of Qeqertarsuaq. Qeqertarsuaq is situated on the huge Disko Island just west of the very famous Ilulissat.

Page 21: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

Qeqertarsuaq is a small town located on the west coast of Greenland with 841 inhabitants. 207 of these are children at the age of 0 to 18 years. Despite the size of the town, Qeqertarsuaq is in many ways a well-equipped town with a supermarket, a school, a kinder garden, a church etc. However, in many ways, Qeqertarsuaq is also a very remote place. In 2020 you can only get to Qeqertarsuaq by boat or helicopter. It is quite expensive to go to Qeqertarsuaq. The municipality of Qeqertarsuaq do not get a lot of worldly inspiration, and children are bored and under-stimulated during summertime where the school and the gym are closed.

WORK Association for Greenlandic Children wants Camp Q to give the inhabitants a fantastic, creative, active, interesting summer. The activities will take place five days a week 12.00-17.00, and will fall into these categories: - Music - Dance - Singing - Games - Sports - Excursions The volunteers will decide which activities to offer during the camp. We will invite the entire population to a social event every Saturday. This could be a night of music and dancing, teaching each other to play an instrument, cooking food from your home country, movie night etc.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Sleeping facilities: The Association for Greenlandic Children ensures that you will get a place to stay. We expect you to stay in a shared bedroom with other volunteers of the same sex. Telephone coverage might be scarcely, and you might not be able to use the internet more than once a week for a very short time. Kitchen + bathroom facilities: All food will have to be transported by ship. Therefore you should be able to adapt to these local conditions or bring a small stock of goods yourself. It can be difficult to be vegetarian or

Page 22: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

vegan since many meals in Greenland is based on meat and fish. Therefore you will have to bring some stuff yourself if you need a special diet. We will make cooking and cleaning teams. The group is responsible for shopping, cooking, cleaning etc. which is also going to take up some of your time every day. So, you should expect long days.

LOCATION AND LEISURE

The nature in Greenland is in general amazing. In Qeqertarsuaq the area is lush and green, and the weather should be sunny and nice. You can hike, go boat riding etc. in your leisure time. Hiking in the fells is an amazing and unique experience. You can decide to organize a weekly leisure activity going hiking, fishing etc. on Sundays, which is your weekly day off. Hopefully, the gym will be accessible to us around the clock. It will also be possible to play football or other sports with the community.

REMARKS (other information)

We will all meet in Copenhagen Airport and travel to Greenland together. As it is not possible for yourself to buy tickets to Greenland due to few departure days, you will have to do it through MS Denmark. Since the price is very high we substitute volunteer according to the schedule below: 4500 DKK: Outside Europe 6500 DKK: Europe (Russia incl.) 8500 DKK: Nordic Countries: (Denmark, Sweden, Norway) English, as a conversational level is necessary. You will be working with kids five-seven hours a day, so you should find joy in spending time with children and know how to be patient with them. Most of the children do not understand English so you should be open to other ways of communicating. English will also be the only language spoken. All participants must be willing to speak English, even though being from the same country or having troubles with the English language. Try your best!

Page 23: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

You should be fit and an active person, to keep up with the children for so many hours - otherwise this camp can be tough. We expect you to participate in all kinds of activities, both creative and sports. Vegetarian food is available, but it can be difficult to obtain the necessary protein, especially if you do not eat fish. Therefore we recommend, that you bring some extra protein and snacks. We do have access to vegetables, that is mostly frozen and other canned food products. As you will be working with children, you will have to provide a copy of your clean criminal record. We will also need a copy of your travel insurance.

TTERMINAL !!! DO NOT BUY PLANE TICKETS TO COPENHAGEN, DENMARK BEFORE GLOBAL CONTACT ALLOWS IT !!! Otherwise, we cannot be responsible for the tickets if cancelled. But do not worry – we are almost 100% sure that the camp will take place! Invite your friends and it will happen! Greenlandic Children will be responsible for buying your tickets from Copenhagen to Qeqertarsuaq and back. You will have to buy your own ticket to/from Copenhagen. You will also have to pay for your stay in Copenhagen. Maybe it will be necessary to spend one night in Copenhagen before travelling to Greenland, to make sure that you do not arrive too late to meet the group at the airport. We also recommend that you arrive a few days before leaving for Greenland so that you can see Copenhagen and meet your fellow participants. We will fly directly from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq in Greenland. We will stay in Kangerlussuaq from the 29th of June until the 2nd of July. Kangerlussuaq is known as Arctic Dessert area and is very very different from Qeqertarsuaq. We will stay at the Old Camp Hostel in Kangerlussuaq. In Kangerlussuaq we will get to know each other and do a lot of planning of the camp activities. You will also get the first sight of the Inland Ice when we go on an excursion to the Russel Glacier.

Page 24: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

On the 2nd of July, we will fly to Aasiaat, and from there we will go to Qeqertarsuaq by boat. When we depart Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland and fly to Denmark, the flight can be delayed due to bad weather. Therefore, we recommend that you should plan to stay two extra nights in Copenhagen before leaving on your flight home, in case we get stuck in Greenland. Our factory and land are not suitable for volunteers with disabilities.

LOCATION Kaarsbergvej 2 8400 Ebeltoft Denmark

ORGANISATION We are creating a festival for 600 festival guest lasting six full days. The festival concept is: build your own festival. Our goal is to enhance learning, craft skills, cultural exchange and make a movement around co-creation. Our goal is to create a sustainable festival with a focus on zero waste and to plant trees (last year we raised 3.000 euros for tree planting. At the festival, people can choose to build their own projects or join projects. We provide free tools and recycled building

materials for everyone. Even though we focus on the building aspect, the festival is so much more, featuring live bands and DJ ́s every night and workshops during the day. It is a co-creation festival, everyone helps to create the experience. The festival is only a small project part of a much greater project and vision. The large project called “Grobund” (meaning fertile soil) includes 160 people who have crowdfunded money to buy a large factory and 10 hectares of land, with the ambition of making a new off-grid tiny house eco-village and share factory facilities for green start-ups companies. The workcamp is organized by Noa Skovdal and Tore Muurholm Dahl. The building festival: PLEASE SEE: www.byggefest.dk Grobund community: www.grobund.org

WORK The aim of the workcamp is to help create the best possible building festival. Week 1: The week starts with two introduction days followed by a day of helping out at a wedding party on Friday 3rd July. It is two of our friends who are getting married, so fancy clothes are not expected. This week we will be setting up the festival by sorting wood, moving stuff around and making signs and decoration for the festival. You will also be working in the building area, bar, outdoor kitchen, dishwashing area, toilets sleeping area and the music stage. This week we take shifts in cooking for each other. Week 2: In this week, we are hosting the festival. Shifts include: ”check-in zone”, ”kitchen”, ”kids zone” and “tool shop.” We also need one or two volunteers to work with taking photos, videos and making Social Media posts. Note that all festival guests are also assigned to minimum one volunteer shift (bar shifts, kitchen shifts, toilet maintenance and cleaning shifts), as the concept is a co-creating festival. Week 3: In this week, we are taking the festival apart, save stuff for next years festival and cleaning up the festival area. Further,

Page 27: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

we are making evaluations on the workcamp stay and the festival in general.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Everyone should bring a minimum a sleeping bag and a pillow. We have new bamboo toothbrushes, toothpaste and shampoo available here. Please also bring appropriate working shoes and clothes both indoor and outdoor - the style does not matter. We recommend that you bring your own tent. We will try to get tents for everyone who wants one but we can’t make promises before we know how many need one. From experience we know that some people might not want to stay in tents due to temperatures (normally ranges 10-25 degree celsius, with few days of heavy winds). Therefore, there will also be an option to borrow a mattress and sleep inside in a big room with others. We have washing machines, kitchen facilities, toilets and showers. We encourage everyone to swim at the beach located a few hundred meters away. Everyone will take part in cooking, according to a plan we decide on together, as part of the work you will do during your stay. During the festival, we will have food served three times a day (all vegan/ vegetarian). We all clean together.

LOCATION AND LEISURE

We are located by the sea (with our own sandy beach), in the countryside, but only five kilometres from Ebeltoft – a lovely small city known as a great tourist destination. In your spare time, we have many things to do or see, and you can borrow a bike to explore the surrounding area. Some days it might be possible to borrow a car to take a trip, maybe to see Mols National Park or Denmarks second-largest city, Aarhus (45 minutes away by car).

REMARKS (other information)

We are looking for people who are open-minded, social and self-motivated. We expect that you treat both nature and others with respect. We do not require any previous experience but value a wide range of competences. We hope that you are eager to be a part of a team and create an incredible experience for yourself and others.

The International Summer Camp has existed for 17 years. This is the third year we are hosting a Work Camp. The first two years have been a success and we are looking forward to this year. This year we will have two Work Camp groups at the same time, so the groups can alternate in working hours, and find time to do social activities together. The Work Camp volunteers work together with local volunteers typical 7 hours or less to help with different tasks during the Summer Camp and help out the camp participants. Work starts in the morning, in the afternoon and some tasks, like being a part of the video crew, means you must work at different times during the day. There will be a rotation between the tasks to make the days vary for the volunteers. The different tasks can include assisting in the kitchen, where you will help prepare both vegetarian and meat dishes and serve the food to the other camp participants. Similar tasks can include helping with cleaning assistance or drive shuttle buses to and from the airport, train station, ferry terminals and practice halls. Other tasks can include overseeing activities with the camp participants and the smallest children, helping in the administration with check inn, check out and room preparations and make video-reports for international live streaming, write articles and take photos for the social media. It will also be possible to be a sparring partner in the Table Tennis Camp and interact with the camp participants.

VOLUNTEERS WITH DISABILITIES

We welcome volunteers with disabilities, but you might want to consider your safety, as the terrain on the Island is uneven and there are a lot of hills and inclines.

LOCATION You will be working and living on the island. The adress is Middelgrundsfortet, 1433 København

ORGANISATION Ungdomsøen (aka Youth Island) is an island located just a short ferry ride from Copenhagen - a historic youth project in the middle of the Øresund! Ungdomsøen will strengthen young people in their journey to become active, committed and curious citizens who take responsibility for each other, for their communities, and the development of our societies. The island is an old sea fortress full of places to hide and get lost. In 2015 it was acquired and donated to the danish scout

Page 38: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

movement. With major help from foundations and after 4 years of renovation, 130 million DKK and 70.000 hours of voluntary work, Ungdomsøen opened in August 2019 and is now ready to be invaded by the youth. Ungdomsøen has an area of 50,000 m2. Inside the island there is more than 16,000 m2 and 1.8 km of underground pathways, so even though the island may seem small from the distance there is plenty of space for activities and expeditions. Ungdomsøen has five dogmas. They have developed through conversations with thousands of young people to the opening. Doing > learning: This dogma is a counterweight to the focus on learning found in formal education systems. Experience creates learning. Youth for youth: An island by, for and together with young people. We have a unique organizational trust in young people’s abilities. Disturbance: Ungdomsøen must challenge, interfere with existing thought patterns and provide new perspectives. We must challenge habits and traditions and do something outside what we usually do. Outreach: Many doors in, so everyone can join. The island must gather individuals – who do not naturally come together – into new communities. Island and Country: Ungdomsøen is not just something we play at. It will change and create cohesion beyond its physical borders. You do not have to be on the island to do Ungdomsø-activities. The five dogmas set the direction for everything that happens on the island including the Summercamp, that you can join. Your main contacts will be 2 young volunteers, Anton and Nina.

Page 39: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

As the island opened in August 2019, we haven’t had a Work Camp like this before. But since 2015 we have had numerous building-camps/weekends. On these, we have cleaned out, painted, build shelters and made barbeque dinners while seeing the sun setting behind Copenhagens skyline. If you want to know more, check out: https://ungdomsoen.dk/

WORK Ungdomsøen is open, but it is far from finished. On this camp, we continue already started projects, start some new ones and hopefully end most of them all. We will be building constructions like a floating sauna, an upcycled hot tub, upcycled flowerbeds, a pizza oven and perhaps much more. We will also be renovating parts of the old fortress, so the island can be even better for other youths to come and use. Thus, we can promise you lots of practical experience, knowledge of building techniques and space for unfolding your creativity. We do everything we can to build environmentally friendly using natural materials or upcycling used ones #LeaveNoTrace

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Overall prepare yourself on spending lots of time outdoors enjoying the amazing view and breeze from the sea. In case of bad weather, we do have plenty of indoor spaces and facilities that we can use. We will be sleeping outside in tents. If you have a sleeping bag/mat or even a tent that you like, bring it along. If you don’t have any of these, it’s totally okay. Because we have plenty that you can borrow. There are lots of new restrooms and baths, we even have a washing machine. We will be cooking together in smaller teams in our communal kitchen. Do you have any allergies or preferences, just let us know before arrival? There will always be vegetarian and vegan options. 2 times a week a small group of us swill sail to Copenhagen to do grocery shopping.

Page 40: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

Last, but not least, there is WIFI available.

LOCATION AND LEISURE

You are going to spend your off-time on the Island, thus we will be planning some social activities like kayaking, stand-up-paddle-boarding, campfires, and day trips to Copenhagen.

REMARKS (other information)

Be aware, as we are on an Island the possibilities of leaving the camp to go shopping etc. after end work, are quite limited. Most of the work will be outside, on the island in the middle of the ocean where it can be windy, so bring cloth for both warm and cold weather. English will be the only language spoken. All participants must be willing to speak English, even though being from the same country or having troubles with the English language. Try your best!

WORK At the Work Camp, you will be building the festival in collaboration with other volunteers. Building a festival is hard work, but incredibly fun and rewarding. The tasks will vary from day to day, but mainly manual work to prepare the framework for the festival. We’ll be assembling pre-built structures, pitching big top tents, setting up showers and toilets and cooking meals for all the fabulous volunteers preparing the festival grounds for the festival. However, all expenses are covered by the camp host. There is a local supermarket close to where you live and there will be a primitive kitchen where you can cook. You will have lunch and dinner during the days of constructing the festival, and during the festival, you will receive two meal+drink vouchers each day, that you can use as you wish. In

REMARKS (other information)

The work will be outside and it is expected that you do have some experience with manual/piratical work. It is also important that you bring practical clothing for all kinds of weather. Himmelstorm Festival has since it’s infancy been non-profit, which makes our volunteers essential for making Himmelstorm what it is today. Your tasks will change from day to day, where you might help set up a stage one day, build a bar the next or carry fences. A team leader will instruct you on what to do. All volunteers on our production team meet at 10 am every day and work until 6 pm. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided on workdays. During the festival, you will be given three food vouchers each day, which you can use in our main food stand to get a meal. Our production team is unlike any other team in Alive Festival. Volunteers work together for a longer period and the spirit when building the festival is very cheery and exciting among the hard work. Many of our volunteers are returning each year to help set up the festival and they know everything there is to know about Thisted and Alive Festival.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Sleeping facilities: Volunteers bring their own tents, mattresses and sleeping bags. There will be toilets installed at the camping area and bath facilities, but it is also possible to use the bath and toilet in a building known as URT. We are currently looking for other accommodation possibilities and we hope to find another solution for the volunteers in 2020. But as it is now it will be in tents – true festival style! Kitchen + bathroom facilities: In URT we have a common room, where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served during the days you are working. In the evening, when all the work is done, you can stay in the common room if you want to play a board game or just to relax for a bit. Our kitchen facilities will be preoccupied as soon as we start building the festival, so it will not be possible to cook for yourselves. During the festival, the food will not be served, though you will receive food vouchers. Vegetarian food is available.

LOCATION Brenderup Folk High School Stationsvej 54 5464 Brenderup Denmark

ORGANISATION Brenderup Højskole hosts the camp. In English, we call ourselves for the Academy for Intercultural Learning. Brenderup Højskole is working as a boarding school with an international approach and accept both Danish and foreign students. You need to be more than 18 years old. Page 54: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

For many years, Brenderup has hosted Work Camps that have supported the building process of Brenderup environmentally friendly buildings. Some of the things that we have built are: A straw bale house and turned it into a big culture and music hall. An ellipse-shaped “lotus house”, which is functioning as a workshop for outdoor living activities. A treetop shelter was made for people who want to sleep outside in the night. The ‘’climb around the world” boulder climbing walls. A historic and cultural play park. An organic fitness centre in our garden, where nature is used instead of artificial machine equipment. We have also completed an artistic brick laying camp, where we were decorating a rather big yard with old Celtic sings and patterns. We also did work with city gardening.   Last year we incorporated ideas and concept from previous years about building sustainable. We call it our Off-Grid House. It is a house which is producing – everything - all energy - within its own walls. Last year we also decorated and made paths in our garden between all our sustainable houses.

WORK Please be prepared for practical work. This year we will focus on finishing the work on our Off-Grid House. You can read about the project on Facebook and our homepage In the middle of our ‘’park garden,’’ we have allocated an area for organic gardening. You should expect to be outside every day and work with garden tools and building up parts of the area. This could be done by making flower beds for herbs and flowers, by building water channels for watering, or by digging a chamber in the ground for keeping vegetables during winter.  THEREFORE, it is garden work - all done in a sustainable way, using nature, for nature! The area of the new ‘organic herb world’ is approximately 1000 square meters. We believe in being very aware, green and organic in our thoughts and talks, and in your way of living at the school. There

Page 55: WORK CAMPS 2020 DENMARK - VolunteerMatch.ORG.TW · (the most northern point of Denmark), Aalborg (the nearest city) or what you find interesting. But you will need to pay for public

will be a lot of different jobs to do with this focus. It could be making outside showers, heated with energy from the sun, or finishing a steam bath. There is always maintenance to do on former Work Camp projects You should be prepared that all project we do will be focusing on environmental and green solutions. During camp, we will take time to debate sustainability - not only as an environmental issue but also on all levels - including sustainability among people and cultures.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Sleeping facilities: You should expect to stay in a tented camp in the middle of our garden. It will also be possible to stay in some of the dorms and rooms if they are available. Kitchen + bathroom facilities: You will have full access to the showers and toilets at the school for all three weeks. The food is mainly organic and is served three times a day by our kitchen staff. You should expect to assist after dinner, by cleaning the dishes. In the weekends, you will take part in cooking the dinner. Let us know if you are vegetarian.

LOCATION AND LEISURE

Brenderup is located on the island Fyn in the southern part of Denmark. The village Brenderup (2000 inhabitants) is close to the beach, forests and idyllic countryside. You will have free access to our different workshops during the camp, including recycling design, music, art and gym workshops. There is wireless internet at the school. Bicycles can be rented for the whole stay.

REMARKS (other information)

The school is a folk high school and will have students and course participants (50 people from approx. 12 different countries) during the Work Camp. They have their own program but there will be many opportunities for volunteers to interact with the

students, especially during dinner and through different social activities during the evenings and weekends. Volunteers are expected to follow the rules of the school. We want to make sure that you appreciate, that our Work Camp is not a party camp, - but a camp where we want to share our cultures. We do have our own parties though! There will be two camp leaders who are former students from the school. They will contact you to tell you about the camp. There will be different work leaders to teach you how to build and work. Normal workday is 6-7 hours. People, who are used to work with their hands in combination with artistic skills, will be preferred for this Work Camp and volunteers are expected to be ready to share their culture with the other participants and students at the school.  Special motivation letters and other requirements should be attached to the info-sheet. It will be amazing if you are also a green thinker!   English at a conversational level is required.
