    Dear Parent/Carer

Re: Work Experience in Key Stage 4

Your son/daughter will be given an opportunity to complete a work experience placement

from Tuesday, 22nd April to Friday, 2nd May 2014

This is an opportunity for them to explore different career opportunities available and tobegin to develop the employability skills they will need when they finish education. Support

and advice will be provided to assist students at each stage.

Placements will be coordinated by Richmond Education Business Partnership (REBP), who are

part of the boroughs Education Childrens and Cultural Services Directorate. A

representative from the REBP will visit potential new placements to check that health and

safety and insurance requirements are in place.

Students will be issued with an Own Find Placement Form and be encouraged to arrange a

placement with an employer for the duration of their work experience. This form should be

handed in by the 9th December 2013.

Alternatively, students who are unable to secure their own find job will be provided with a

placement by the REBP. They will be given an opportunity to make preferred choices of the

industry area that they would like to work in and locations in the borough that they are able

to travel to. This is accessed online athttp://richmond.learnaboutwork.netand students will

be issued with a PIN and log in to the site. They should select 3 to 4 areas and submit their

    choices by 31st January 2014.

Students should not do both and it is recommended that they start this process as soon as

possible to give them the best choices and secure the job that would best suit them.

Whether your son / daughter find their own placement or are allocated a placement from

the database, they will be provided with a job description. This will detail tasks they maycomplete whilst on their placement, requirements of the placements, who to contact to

arrange their interview and details of the employers health and safety risk assessment. It is

important that you ask your son / daughter to view this document and that you contact the

school if you have any concerns about the safety of your child.

Please complete and return the section attached to provide your consent for your son /

daughter to participate in the work experience programme.

    Yours sincerely

    Mrs J Ralph
