Depuis 2014, l’Atelier Takmil, "Finition" en arabe, permet à des cinéastes africains et arabes de présenter leurs films, en phase de post production, à un jury international composé de professionnels de l’industrie du cinéma. Takmil est organisé dans le cadre de CARTHAGE PRO qui accompagne des cinéastes africains et arabes de la phase de développement jusqu’à celle de la finition en vue de les retrouver en Compétition O�cielle. En témoigne la sélection de la copie de travail de Haifa Street, de Mohanad Hayal, qui a participé en 2017 à Chabaka/producer’s network. Par ailleurs, You Come From Far Away de Amal Ramsis(Takmil 2016), Laaziza de Moh-cine Besri(Takmil 2017) et La Clémence de la Jungle de Joel Karekezi, lauréat de la bourse OIF à Takmil 2017, nous reviennent cette année en sélection O�cielle. Pour cette 5ème édition nous avons reçu environ 60 copies de travail provenant de 14 pays africains et arabes. Nous en avons sélectionné 11 venant d’Algérie, d’Egypte, d’Iraq, du Liban, du Rwanda, de Syrie et de Tunisie. Du 5 au 7 novembre, après visionnage des copies de travail sélectionnées, chaque réalisateur(ice) accompagné(e) par son/sa producteur(ice) défendra son film lors d’une discussion avec les membres du jury. Le 7 novembre au soir, le jury attribuera des bourses d’aide à la finition aux films les plus prometteurs. Nous sommes ravis d’annoncer trois nouveaux prix : une bourse en numéraire o�erte par l’Organisation Internationale de la Migration (OIM), des travaux de post production par LaserFilm et une bourse de post production, ventes ou marketing par EYE ON FILMS. Ces bourses s’ajoutent à celles accordées par l’Organisation Internationale de la Franco-phonie (OIF), l’International Media Support (IMS), le Centre National du Cinéma et de I’Image (CNCI) et HAKKA Distribution. Since 2014, Takmil (’‘Finishing’’, in Arabic) Workshop has enabled African and Arab film-makers to show their films in the phase of post-production to an international jury made up of cinema industry professionals.

Takmil is organised within the framework of CARTHAGE PRO, which accom-panies African and Arab film-makers from the development phase to the finishing phase looking forward to have them in the O�cial Competition. Hence the selection of the working copy of Haifa Street by the Iraqi Mohanad Hayal, who attended the Chabaka/producer’s network, in 2017 Besides, You come from far away by Amal Ramsis (Takmil 2016), Laaziza by Mohcine Besri (Takmil2017) and The Mercy of the Jungle by Joel Karekezi, winner of the OIF Grant (Takmil 2017), are in the O�cial Com-petition of this edition.For Takmil 5th edition, we received about 60 works in progress from 14 African and Arab countries. We selected 11 from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Rwanda, Syria and Tunisia.From 5 to 7 November, after the screening of the selected rough cuts, each director, and his/her producer, will defend his/her film during a discussion with the members of the jury.The 7 November evening, the jury will award grants for post-production to the most promising films.

We are delighted to announce three new prizes: a cash grant o�ered by the International Migration Organisation (IMO), post-production work by LaserFilm, and a post production, sales or marketing grant by Eye On Films. These grants join those already o�ered by Organisation Internatio-nale de la Francophonie (OIF), International Media Support (IMS), Centre National du Cinéma et de I’Image (CNCI) and HAKKA Distribution.

Film editor Dina Farouk studied Video and Film Editing at the Higher Institute of Cinema and worked with Egyptian film-makers such as Samir Seif (Souk Al Motaa, 1999, Ma’ali Al Wazir 2002). She also edited some of the best Egyptian romantic dramas, including Hob El Banat by Khaled El Hagar, three films by Mohamed Khan (Banat West El Balad, Fi Shaket Masr El Gedeeda and Before the Summer Crowds) and three by Kamla Abouzekri (Sana Oula Nasb, A’an El Eshq Wel Hawa, and Malik W Ketaba). In 2007 she set up WIKA for Film Production and Distribution; it produced Harag W’ Marag in 2012, Kiss Me Not (2017, which screened at DIFF) and the Moga Harra TV series (2013).

Dina Farouk a étudié le montage à L’Institut Supérieur du Cinéma du Caire et a travaillé avec des réalisateurs égyptiens comme Samir Seif (Souk El Motaa, 1999, Ma’ali Al Wazir, 2002). Elle a monté plusieurs des meilleurs drames romantiques égyptiens y compris Hob El Banat de Khaled El Hagar,trois films de Mohamed Khan (Banat West ElBalad, Fi Shaket Masr El Gedeeda et Before the Summer Crowds) et trois autres de Kamla Abouzekri (Sana Oula Nasb, A’an El Eshq Wel Hawa, and Malik W Ketaba). Michael Hack, festival organizer and programmer. Managing Director (until 2018) as well as programmer and strategic consultant of Berlin Critics' Week. Before that he was artis-tic director of the Lichter Filmfest, Frankfurt. He writes on film, literature and politics, and has contributed to publications like Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Der Tagesspiegel. Besides his work in the film industry he is a political advisor on the relations between Europe and the Middle East and Africa and a translator. He studied Film and Comparative Literature in Frankfurt and Paris.

Michael Hack est organisateur de festival et programmateur. Il est Directeur Général de la Semaine de la Critique du festival International de Berlin jusqu'en 2018, pour laquelle il continue de travailler en tant que consultant en programmation et stratégie. Il était aupara-vant directeur artistique du LICHTER Filmfest Frankfurt. Il écrit sur le cinéma, la littéra-ture et la politique et a contribué à des publications telles que Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung et Der Tagesspiegel. Producer Nadim Cheikhrouha graduated from the Paris HEC in 1998. He worked for various companies before becoming producer at Screen Runner, Jade Productions and (since 2014) Tanit Films. He has produced several films and documentaries including Benda Bilili! (opening film in the 2010 Quinzaine des Realisateurs), Disintegration (Venice Mostra, o�cial selection out of competition 2011), Fatima (prizes in 2015, 2016), Hedi (2016 Berlin Festival, best first film, best actor), Tomorrow at Dawn (2016), Beauty and the Dogs (Un Certain Regard 2017), Weldi and Amin (both Cannes 2018 Quinzaine des Realisateurs) and the Cheikh’s Watermelons (Kaouther ben Hania, 2018).

Né à Tunis, Nadim Cheikhrouha est diplômé de HEC Paris. Après avoir passé un an au sein de TF1 Films Productions, il rejoint TPD Cinéma aux préachats de longs métrages. Il intègre en Juin 2002 la Société Mandarin Film. Il y occupe le poste de directeur Administratif et Financier durant 4 ans avant de s’associer à Screen Runner et Jade Productions. En 2014, Nadim crée sa société de production Tanit Films. Il a produit et coproduit plusieurs fictions et documentaires : Benda Bilili de Renaud Barret et Florent de la Tullaye, Hedi de Mohamed Ben Attia (Berlin 2016 – Meilleur premier film- Meilleur Acteur), La belle et la meute de Kaouther Ben Henia (Un certain regard-Cannes 2017), ainsi que Amin de Phillippe Faucon et Weldi de Mohamed Ben Attia qui ont été présentés à la quinzaine des réalisateurs à Cannes en 2018.

Rasha Salti is an independent filmmaker, visual arts critic and scriptwriter. She lives in Beirut and works between New York, Paris and Toronto. She co-organized several film programs such as The Road To Damascus, a retrospective of Syrian cinema (with Richard Pena in 2006) that circulated around the world, as well as Mapping Subjectivity: experimentation in Arab Cinema from the 1960's until now (with Jytte Jansen, 2010 - 2012) presented at Moma in New York. She has collaborated with several organizations and festivals including Jeu de Paume, Paris, SANFIC, Santiago, and Vate Modern, London. She was a member of the 2015 Celeste Prize jury. Since 2017, she is Head of La Lucarne-ARTE, France.

Rasha Salti est une cinéaste indépendante, critique en arts visuels et scénariste. Elle vit à Beyrouth et travaille entre New York, Paris et Toronto. Selina Ukwuoma is a freelance script consultant who has advised on projects ranging from the 2008 BAFTA winner Boy A and 2014 Teddy Award Winner The Way He Looks to the 2017 Berlinale GWFF Best First Feature Award Winning Summer 1993. As well as consulting for production companies and running development initiatives with various organisations, she teaches scriptwriting at the UK National Film and Television School and runs workshops on Pitching at various festivals worldwide.

Selina Ukwuoma est consultante scénario. Elle a été conseillère sur plusieurs projets (Boy A, lauréat du BAFTA 2008, The Way He Looks lauréat du Teddy Award , ainsi que Summer 1993, gagnant du prix du meilleur premier long métrage , GWFF Berlinale 2017). Elle est consultante pour des sociétés de productions et participe au développement d’initia-tives au sein de plusieurs organisations. J’envisage le montage du film comme le vécu du tournage. Chaque rencontre est une histoire unique et particulière, suspendue dans un hors temps. Je cultiverai le hors champ, tout ce qu’on ne voit pas étend une compréhension à d'autres horizons.

I envisage the editing of this film, like the experience of filming, where each meeting is a single, specific story suspended out of time. I shall cultivate the out of sight. What you can’t see extends understanding to other horizons.

Hassen Ferhani est né à Alger en 1986, où il a co-dirigé de 2003 à 2008, le chrysalide ciné-club. Sa filmographie est variée. En 2006, il réalise un court-métrage : Les baisers d’Alger. Il co-réalise Afric Hotel en 2010, documentaire présenté à Visions du réel. Son troisième court métrage Tarzan, Don Quichotte et nous est sélectionné en 2013 à Visions du Réel et au FID Marseille. Parallèlement, il travaille comme assistant réalisateur auprès de Lyes Salem, Malek Bensmail, Karim Moussaoui et d’autres. En 2015, il réalise son premier long métrage Dans ma tête, un rond point - Tanit d’or du meilleur documentaire et Tanit d’or pour la meilleur première oeuvre aux JCC 2015.

Hassen Ferhani was born in 1986 in Algiers, where from 2003-2008 he co-ran the Chrysalide Film Club. In 2006, he directed his first short film, The Bays Of Algiers, selected in o�cial competition at several international festivals. In 2010, he co-directed the documentary Afric Hotel, shown at Visions Du Réel and in 2013 his third short film Tarzan, Don Quixote and Us was selected there and at FID Marseille. He worked as assistant director with names such as Lyes Salem, Malek Bensmail and Karim Moussaoui. In 2015, he directed his first feture documentary In my head, a round about - Golden Tanit for best docu-mentary and best first feature JCC 2015.

Après 62 ans de vie commune, mes grands-parents, sont aujourd’hui séparés. Tous deux nés en Algérie, arrivés en France dans les années 1950, ils vivent depuis plus de soixante ans à Thiers, en Auvergne. C’est une histoire d’exil, de liens qui se défont, de sou�rance et de fierté qui a profondément marqué mes grands-parents et toute une génération d’Algériens immigrés en France.

After 62 years together, my grandparents separated. Both were born in Algeria and arrived in France in the 1950s; both have lived for sixty years in Thiers in the Auvergne. This is a story of exile, of disintegrating ties, of the su�ering and pride that deeply marked my grandparents and an entire generation of Algerian immigrants in France.

Le film nous transportera dans des univers qui ne se rencontrent pas. Je filmerai la distance qui se creuse entre les personnages, entre les territoires. Nous passerons d’Aïcha à Mabrouk, du monde des femmes à celui des hommes, des images du présent à celles du passé, de l'Auvergne à l'Algérie, dans un mouvement continu de va-et-vient. The film transports us into worlds that never meet. I shall film the distance that separates people, territories. We shall move from Aicha to Mabrouk, from the world of women to that of men, from images of the present to those of the past, from the Auvergne to Algeria, in a constant oscillation.

Lina Soualem réalisatrice et comédienne franco-algéro-palestinienne, diplômée de l’Université de la Sorbonne à Paris, est spécialisée dans l’étude des sociétés arabes contemporaines. D’abord journaliste, elle se dirige vers le cinéma. Après avoir été programmatrice du Festival de Cinéma des Droits de l’Homme de Buenos Aires et du festival Latin Arab, puis du festival «Palest’In & Out» à Paris, aujourd’hui à Paris, elle est assistante réalisatrice et auteure sur des projets de films documen-taires.

Lina Soualem, a French-Algerian-Palestinian director and actress and Sorbonne graduate, specialises in the study of contemporary Arab societies. She started a journalist, then she moved into films. She was programmer of the Buenos Aires Human Rights Cinema Festival and the Latin Arab Festival and then the Palest’In & Out Festival, Paris. Now Paris-based, she is assistant director and writer on documentary projects.

Marie Balducci basically produces documentaries and films like Three Sisters and Oblomov. She produced Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi’s A 90-year-old Girl and Dieudo Hamadi’s State Certificate, both selected in international festivals (Locarno, Toronto, Namur, IDFA etc.). She prefers films that straddle formal inventiveness and political/cultural stakes.

Ce film traite de l’idée de la perte et comment, étonnament, trouver une force intérieure pour vivre avec. Et également, comment une personne émotionnellement fragile peut a�ronter ces incompréhensibles émotions comme l’anxiété et la dépression qui mènent aux pensées suicidaires.

I made a film about the idea of loss and how one can surprisingly find an inner strength to deal with it. How a normal person who’s emotionally fragile can cope with such incomprehensible emotions as anxiety and depression that lead to suicidal thoughts.

Hisham Saqr né en 1987 au Caire a plus de dix ans d’expérience comme monteur pour l’industrie égyptienne du film. Il a travaillé avec de nombreux réalisateurs égyptiens réputés et a gagné plusieurs prix du montage. Il a monté les films de Ahmed Abdallah Rags and Tatters 2013 et Microphone (2010), pour lequel il a remporté le prix du meilleur monteur au DIFF. Il a également monté Winter of Discontent d’Ibrahim El Batout, ce qui lui a valu la nomination pour le meilleur monteur africain. Certified Mail est son premier long métrage.

Hisham Saqr was born in Cairo in 1987. He has more than 10 years’ experience as an editor in the Egyptian film industry. Saqr has worked with a number of acclaimed Egyptian directors, most recently with Ahmad Abdalla on the award-winning Rags and Tatters (2013), Micro-phone (2010), for which Saqr won the award for best film editor at the DIFF. He also edited Al Batout’s Winter of Discontent which earned Saqr a best African editor nomination from the African Film Develop-ment Foundation. Certified Mail is his first feature film.

Haifa Street est une tentative de contextualiser et de comprendre les dix minutes durant lesquelles j’ai échappé aux balles meurtrières d’un sniper. Neuf ans plus tard, des questions me hantent encore : qui était la victime ? Pourquoi a-t-il été assassinée ? Comme tous les Iraquiens, je n’ai pas de réponse. Dans mon film, j’explore ces minutes intenses aux relents de mort.

My film Haifa Street is an attempt to contextualize and understand those ten minutes, in which I escaped from deadly sniper bullets. Nine years later, questions still haunt me: Who was the deceased? Why was he killed? And many more. But like all Iraqis, I have no answers. With my film, I want to expound on those intense minutes that reeked of death.

Ali Raheem, né en 1988, à Bagdad, a étudié à l’Université des Beaux-Arts. Depuis 2013, il dirige le département média du Parlement iraquien et a travaillé pour un grand nombre de télévisions iraquiennes et arabes. Ses films (courts métrages et documentaires) ont été présentés dans plusieurs festivals arabes et européens. Il a produit plusieurs documentaires et fictions, dont la série documentaire Héros d’Irak.

Ali Raheem was born in 1988 in Baghdad, Iraq. He studied cinema at the Baghdad University College of Fine Arts; since 2003 he has run the Iraqi parliament’s media department and worked in many Arab and Iraqi networks. His last short film was Life In Darkness and his first long docu-mentary (2012) Balanja. He has produced both documentary and fiction films, the last being Haifa Street, and worked as producer for a documen-tary series, Heroes of Iraq. His films have been shown at European and Arab film festivals.

A Home Of One’s Own est l’histoire d’une génération qui a intériorisé celle de la précédente. L’influence de la défaite et de l’exil sur l’évolution personnelle est explorée à travers deux femmes. Le film évolue dans un processus proche de l’évolution de la conscience après une perte douloureuse. J’improvise avec des fragments de mes souvenirs pour reconstruire un temps intérieur personnel.

A Home of One’s Own is a story of one generation as internalised by another. The way defeat and exile shape personal journeys is explored through two women. The film evolves in a process that resembles the evolution of my own consciousness at a time of severe loss. I am improvising with fragments of my memories to reconstruct a self within time.

Rubah Atiyeh a travaillé depuis longtemps sur le thème du déplacement (des populations). Elle a créé des ateliers d’art dramatique, écrit et joué dans des pièces de théâtre sur le thème de la place et de l’identité de la seconde génération d’immigrants. Depuis 2003, elle a réalisé deux courts métrages Salute Comrade et Let Me Stand Alone. Elle enseigne la réalisation documentaire, encadre des réalisateurs débu-tants dont elle produit certains films. Elle a également été membre du Jury des Emmy Awards. Elle a produit et réalisé des documentaires pour Aljazeera Documentary Channel et d’autres commanditaires. Elle a produit deux films pour des réalisateurs débutants (fiction et documentaire sur ce même thème).

With an MA in Documentary from Goldsmith’s College, London University, Ruba Atiyeh has produced plays on the theme of displace-ment and identity for second-generation immigrants. She produced and directed documentaries for Aljazeera Documentary Channel and other commissioners. She teaches at the Lebanese University and is researching geography in film. She is now producing two features (fiction and documentary) on place and identity for emerging directors. She has designed drama workshops and written/acted in plays for which she received awards. Since 2013 she has made documentaries, biographies and two personal shorts Salute Comrade and Let Me Stand Alone. She teaches documentary film-making and has mentored emer-ging film-makers, some of whose first features she is producing and she’s also a member of the documentary jury at the Emmy Awards

Ce film traite de l’éventualité surréaliste que Beyrouth puisse disparaitre un jour, une ville faite de paradoxes et de contradictions où il n’y a aucune synchronisation dans le rythme. En ce sens, l’environnement e�rayant et hostile de l’actuelle Beyrouth est un décor idéal de science-fiction où le familier et l’insolite coexistent.

This film is about the surreal possibility that the city of Beirut might one day disappear. Beirut is a city of paradoxes and contradictions where there is no one synchronous rhythm. In this sense, the uncanny and hostile environment of Beirut today presents an ideal science fiction setting where the familiar and the unusual exist side by side.

Nadim Mishlawi est un réalisateur et compositeur libanais. Il a fait ses débuts en réalisation avec le documentaire Secteur Zéro (premier prix du documentaire à DIFF 2011 et Berlin Art Prize for Film and Media Arts 2013). Ces quinze dernières années, il a développé des projets variés allant du cinéma aux installations artistiques. En 2011, il a été nominé pour la meilleure musique originale au Festival Internationnal du Film d’Aubagne pour son travail sur le film Stray Bullet. En 2006, il a co-fon-dé le studio de musique DB Studios. Il enseigne actuellement l’art du son à l’Université d’Alba.

Mutiganda Wa Nkunda, ancien critique de cinéma est un réalisateur pour le cinéma et la télévision, connu pour avoir écrit et réalisé des sitcoms et des séries télévisées. Ses courts métrages ont été présentés dans plusieurs festivals internationaux. Son troisième court métrage, The Secret Of Happiness est sur les plateforme VOD. Il est en post-production pour son troisième court métrage Rockabye et son premier long métrage Nameless.

Mutiganda wa Nkunda is a Rwandan filmmaker who works in film and television and a former film critic. He is known for writing Inshuti - Friends (sitcom) (2014-2015) and Seburikoko (TV Series) (2015- present); writing and directing City Maid (TV Series) (2016-present). His short films were shown in Luxor, Zanzibar, CinemAfrica, BlackStar and other various international film festivals. His short film The Secret Of Happiness is distributed by Gravitas Ventures and is on Streampix and other VOD platforms. He is in post-production of his 3rd short film Rockabye and his debut feature film Nameless.

Yuhi Amuli est un cineaste rwandais. Son premier court métrage Ishaba a été présenté dans plusieurs festivals. Akarwa est son second court métrage (2017). Il est actuellement en train de mettre au point le scénario de son premier long métrage Yohani.

Yuhi Amuli is a Rwandan film-maker. He made his first short film Ishaba in 2015. The film was made with support from a SouthAfrican production company Urucu Media , the Swiss Fresh Prod and Mashariki African Film Festival and was screened in various film festivals including Luxor, Amiens, Vue d’Afrique, Lausanne, etc. Akarwa is his second short film made in 2017. Rihem est une étudiante syrienne à l’Université des Arts de Berlin. Elle commence sa quête d’un foyer pour y loger après avoir quitté sa chambre à Berlin car elle ne pouvait plus payer le loyer. A travers son errance entre di�érents endroits, elle commence à découvrir des pans de sa personnalité qu’elle ne connaissait guère. Cependant, sa situation se dégrade puisque l’argent commence à manquer.

Reham is a Syrian student at the University of Arts, Berlin. When she is kicked out of her room for not paying the rent in time, she moves from one place and one friend to another. As the money she has saved runs out and she begins to realise that nobody can help her, her living conditions worsen. Nevertheless, with each new place she enters and each new character she meets, she discovers a new and unsuspected part of herself.

This film questions the notions of stability, focus, ownership, and this through the story of my own experience in the streets of Berlin, as well as those of various other people. Reham Al Kassar est une actrice de 25 ans née à Damas, diplômée en Arts Dramatiques en Syrie et à Berlin. Elle a interprété récemment Reem, dans The day I lost my shadow, primée à Venise. Elle a également travaillé en tant que consultante dans plusieurs ateliers de formation de comédiens. Sa première expérience au cinéma a été d’écrire et réaliser un court métrage Toi, Toi, Toi (2015, Berlin) et un documentaire Tente (2016, Damas).

Reham Alkassar is a 25-year-old actress and director born in Damascus. After graduating from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, Acting Department in Syria, 2014, she travelled to Germany to continue her Master studies in Spatial Strategies at the Berlin Weissensee School of Art. She participated in a wide range of works as an actress. Besides her main performative work she has also done work as a dramatic consultant and instructor in several actor training workshops. Her first experiment with film was the writing and directing of the short film Toi, Toi, Toi in 2015, Berlin, followed by the documentary film Tent in 2016, Damascus.

Hala Bdier est née à Amman en 1992. En 2014, elle obtient son diplôme de l’Institut des Arts Dramatiques de Damas. Elle a joué sur scène et à l’écran, notamment dans les courts métrages Sama (Dubai,2017) et Kabbout : Spare parts (Amman, 2017). Elle s’essaye à di�érents types de cinéma expérimental, avant d’obtenir, en 2018, une bourse prestigieuse de l’Université des Beaux-Arts d’Hambourg.

Hala Bdier was born in Amman in 1992. In 2014 she took a BA in Acting from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, Damascus. She acted on stage and in films, the most recent being the short films Sama (Dubai, 2017) and Kabbout: Spare Parts (Amman, 2017). She made some expe-rimental films like Which Came First, the Chicken or the Egg? (Amman, 2013) and the short documentary Grey (Damascus, 2016). Dans ce film, les rapports familiaux sont mis à mal parce que chacun prêche pour sa propre paroisse et s’attend à ce que l’autre lui ressemble. C’est un jeu de miroir inversé. Fradj, le père despote, désespère de ne pouvoir trouver en Aly un fils fait à son image, mais peut-être n’est-il pas son fils... et Aly, qui veut, coûte que coûte devenir père.

In this film family relationships are probed: each person promotes his own cause and expects others to agree with him, as in a reflecting mirror. Ibrahim Letaief est un réalisateur tunisien. Il a trois longs métrages à son actif : A�reux, sales et cupides sorti en 2012, Cinecitta sorti en 2008 et Porto Farina qui sortira en 2018. Il a aussi réalisé trois courts métrages dont Visa qui a reçu 23 prix internationaux dont le Tanit D’Or aux Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage.

Ibrahim Letaief is a Tunisian director. He has three feature films to his credit: Ugly, Dirty and Greedy released in 2012, Cinecitta, released in 2008 and Porto Farina, which will be released in 2018. He also directed three short films including Visa, which has received 23 international awards including the J.C.C’s Golden Tanit.

Cinq destins de jeunes, un quartier, une décennie, nous embarquent dans un voyage fait d’allers-retours entre deux époques : 2007-2017, de la dictature à la démocratie. En toute sincérité, ces jeunes partagent leurs rêves, nous font découvrir leur quartier et nous livrent un regard aiguisé sur le pays.

Five young people’s destinies, one neighborhood, one decade - we are launched on a to-and-fro trip between 2007 and 2017, dictatorship and democracy. The young people talk frankly about their dreams, show us their neighborhood, and paint a sharp picture of the country.

Le film o�re un voyage fait d’allers-retours entre deux époques 2007-2017. Pour ce faire, le montage, le mélange de formats d’images et la musique deviennent des moyens d’écriture au service de la narration qui permettent de jouer avec la chronologie historique.

The film o�ers a return trip between two eras – 2007 and 2017 - using editing, mixture of image formats and music as means of writing a story that plays around with the historical chronology.

Wided Zoghlami a étudié à l’EDAC, puis à l’EICAR Paris où elle réalise un court métrage Presque un Plaisir, présenté dans plusieurs festivals. En 2016, elle s’intéresse à la mise en scène et intègre l’école du Théâtre National de Tunis, sous la direction de Fadhel Jaïbi. En 2017, elle reprend, après dix ans, le tournage de son premier long métrage documentaire Fathallah TV.

After studying at EDAC, Wided Zoghlami continued at EICAR, Paris, directing a short film, Almost a Pleasure, which appeared at several festivals. In 2016, she focused on directing at the Tunis National Theatre School headed by Fadhel Jaibi. In 2017, she returned to Fathal-lah TV, her first feature documentary, ten years after starting it.

Riadh Thabet fonde Ulysson Production en 1985. Il produit plusieurs long-métrages de fiction et documentaires, notamment en 2018 : 24 vérités, True Story, FC Zagora, Fathallah TV, en 2016 : Woh, Le Convive, Attitude, en 2015 Jamila et le Djin, en 2012 Hazz ye wizzz, en 2006 Dix courts Dix regards en 2003 L’île maudite et en 2001 Le Ksour.

In 1985 Riadh Thabet set up Ulysson Production. He produced several feature fictions and documentaries such as Khemissa (2000), The Ksour (2001), The Cursed Isle (2003), Ten Shorts Ten Glances (2006), Hazz ye Wizz (2012), Jamila and the Jinn (2015), Attitude, The Guest, and Woh (all 2016), and Fathallah TV, FC Zagora, True Story, and 24 Truths (all 2018).

Îا��Synopsis

Ali, un vieux couturier passe son temps à chercher un trésor introuvable dans une galerie souterraine de sa maison et se retrouve coincé avec sa femme et ses enfants sous les décombres, suite à l'e�ondrement de celle-ci. Il doit prendre soin d’eux en les emmenant à l’abri, dans la galerie souterraine et trouver le moyen de les sauver avant qu'il ne soit trop tard.

Ali is an old tailor from Tunis who spends his time looking for a buried treasure in an under-ground gallery in his house. One day, he finds himself stuck with his wife and children under the rubble, after the collapse of their home. That’s when he must learn to take care of them by taking them to the underground shelter. He must fight and look for a way to save them before it’s too late.

Le film brosse le portrait de Ali, un père de famille dont le destin est banal et sans relief. Son modeste état d'aide couturier ne l’aide guère à trouver une issue à sa condition précaire. Il fallait donc que Ali et sa famille passent par une douloureuse épreuve, par l’expérience de la claustration pour que leur vision de la vie change.

The film paints the portrait of Ali, a father whose destiny is boring and flat. And for a good reason: his modest condition of tailor’s assistant doesn’t help him to free himself from the weight of everyday life, or find a way out of his needy condition. It’s therefore necessary for Ali and his family to go through a painful ordeal, through the experience of cloistering, so that their vision of life changes.

Né à Tunis en 1987, il est diplômé de l’ISAMM(2009) en écriture et réalisation. Il a réalisé trois courts métrages de fiction. Il a aussi joué dans plusieurs courts métrages. En développant son projet de premier long métrage, intitulé Avant qu’il ne soit trop Tard, il a participé à plusieurs ateliers d’écriture et programmes de développement dont Sud Ecriture, La Fabrique des Cinémas du Monde et l’atelier Grand Nord.

Majdi Lakhdar was born in Tunis in 1987. He studied writing and direc-ting at ISAMM Institute Tunis and graduated in 2009. He has directed three short films and acted in several others. With his first feature film Before it’s too Late, he participated in several writing workshops and development programmes: Beyond Borders 2010, Sud Ecriture, La Fabrique des Cinémas du Monde, Grand Nord.
