Financed by employer premiums – receives no government funding

The WSIB is a government agency under the responsibility of the Ministry of Labour
– The WSIB operates at “arms-length” from the Ministry
– The Government passes legislation, but the WSIB is responsible for its own policies and programs
– The Hon. Linda Jeffrey was appointed Minister of Labour in October 2011

About 4.5 million workers are covered by the WSIB (70% of the population)
WSIB provides benefits and services to injured and ill
workers, surviving spouses, and their children
That includes disability benefits, and monitoring the quality of healthcare
WSIB assists in return to work and work transition for workers

The WSIB receives more than 200,000 new claims per year, with approximately 1,100 claims registered each working day
There are currently more than 230,000 registered employer accounts that receive a wide range of services from the WSIB
Mandatory coverage of the construction industry is expected to add approximately 100,000 more construction workers to the WSIB’s employer accounts

– Multilingual Services and Community Outreach program provides daily translation and interpretation services in over 60 languages
