Specifications of science on some focus become the spotlight, to help in directing the lecturers' writing projects in the future. The lecturers also need to always be motivated to keep consistently producing works of research that increases in quantity and quality to fulfil the tri dharma of higher education, which consists of education, research and development, and community service. Responding to the challenge, for two days (29-30/3), Department of Electrical Engineering held Workshop of Research Roadmap Preparation. The two guest speakers invited were, Prof. Dr. Ir. Norman B. Mariun from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Prof. Adhi Susanto, M.Sc., Ph.D., from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta. The purpose of this workshop was to learn more about the research system at 2 universities, UPM and UGM. "By getting inspiration from the system in the two universities, it is expected that to Department of Electrical Engineering-UB can formulate a clearer roadmap of research and focus to the needs and capacities of our department," Muhammad Fauzan Edy Purnomo, ST., MT said as chief of the committee. In this workshop, the two researchers were asked to share their experiences regarding the research roadmap in each university. Starting at 09 a.m., the participants are exposed to interactive sessions where the lecture actively ask questions and share experiences. The interesting thing from the workshop with Prof . Norman is the tips to get funding for research. According to him, in Malaysia, the college has a close relationship with related companies, to which researchers can present their research proposal routinely and get help in funding the development. "We as the researchers, and lecturers should more actively seek research fund" he said. Agreeing with Prof. Norman, Prof. Adhi also emphasized the importance of the division of research focus for the Department of TE in outline; Power, Control, Wireless and Instrumentation, which should be more focus to the needs and capacity of the department. Separately, Mohammad Aziz Muslim, ST, MT, PhD, the Chairman of the Electrical Engineering Department describes the follow-up in the future where the Electrical Engineering Department will be divide specialization into several groups. Each lecturer will be focused into groups in accordance to their expertise. "The establishment of this specific group is expected to be made in accordance with existing expertise in TE-UB. So, it can raise a trade

mark for TE-UB," he said. He pointed out, the development in the future such as in robotics or micro hydro. "Obviously, in addition to working independently, this groups will also look for a joint project which the whole group can be expected to take part. TE-UB researchers can give direct benefit to the community," he concluded. The event was closed with handover of vandels to the speakers in the form of ABEL, portable antenna that can be used as souvenirs, a creation of TE-student, winner of PIMNAS 2013.
