INCEPTION• In 1894 the italian inventor GUGLIELMO MARCONI built the first complete, commercially

successful WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY system based on airborne hertzian waves

• Transmitting the letter "s" in morse code from cornwall, england to a receiving station on signal hill overlooking st. John's harbour in newfoundland on December 12, 1901

Marconi opened the world's first purpose-built radio factory at New Street Works in Chelmsford

UNSUNG HERO...On December 24, 1906, at 9 P.M. eastern standard time, Reginald Fessenden transmitted human voices from Brant Rock near Boston, Massachusetts to several ships at sea owned by the United Fruit CompanyFessenden could truly lay claim to be the inventor of radio and he fully expected the world to beat a path to his door. Instead, he never received his due recognition, lost control of his patents and the ensuing revenue which made other inventors and companies immensely wealthy

• In 1900, brazilian Priest Roberto landell de moura transmitted the human voice wirelessly. According to the newspaper jornal do comercio (june 10, 1900)

• He conducted his first public experiment on june 3, 1900, in front of journalists and the general consul of great britain, C.P. Lupton, in são paulo, brazil, for a distance of approximately 5.0 miles (8 km)

of industries and labour of the government

• August 1935 - Mr. Lionel fielden assumed charge as the first controller of broadcasting

• January 1936 - Delhi radio station was opened

YE AKASHVANI HAIJune 8 1936 - the ISBS was renamed All India Radio (air)

1937 - air was transferred from the ministry of labour and industries to the department of communications.

September 1939 - News bulletins were centralized in all languages at delhi.

October 1, 1939 - External service started and directed to afghanistan, iran and arab countries in pushtu (to counter radio propaganda from germany)

1939 - Controller broadcasting Lionel Fielden was succeeded by Professor A.S. Bokhari who remained the head of all india radio for six crucial years (in 1943, the designation, controller of broadcasting, was changed to director general)

In 1941, AIR was again transferred to the department of information and broadcasting, which after independence in 1947, became a separate ministry by itself
