World Catalogue of Maximum Observed Floods

Since publication of this volume it has become apparent that the data for the USA were not checked fully before the tables were submitted to IAHS Press for publication. An erratum is in preparation and will be distributed to all purchasers of the volume. It is hoped to include additional data that have been made available since publication.

Errata and Supplementary Data August 2004 © IAHS Press

Since publication of the catalogue it has become apparent that there were some data entry errors, particularly in the USA data. The errors are detailed here (the USA tables are reproduced in full), with revised tables for the UK and new data from Belgium, received since publication.

Hydrometric authorities occasionally review and revise their their flood records, and flood statistics continue to accumulate, hence a catalogue of this nature can only reflect the information available at a given point in time. The data reproduced here are as provided and checked by the supplying authority.

THE WORLD'S MAXIMUM FLOODS

USA, Hawaii, Wailua New examination of the survey, hydraulic assumptions and calculations during 2003 by the US Geological Survey, Water Resources Division ( U S G S - W R D ) resulted in revision of the maximum discharge to 1950 m 3 s"1 ; this results in a k value of 5.65 instead of 5.82.

USA, Texas , North Fork In 2003, U S G S - W R D similarly revised the maximum discharge to 2100 m 3 s" 1; this results in a /rvalue of 5.53 Hubbard Brook instead of 5.77.

(a) All the peak discharges are the highest daily mean flows (for the hydrological day, 09:00-09:00) for each water-year (October-^September). T h e peak flows for the Severn are gauged flows; those for the Thames are naturalized (adjusted to account for major upstream abstractions).
