Go through the entire World Coast using means of transport that does not pollute to speak and aware the people about the problems of trash and mainy the plastic problems on the Beaches and Oceans doing presentation allong the way in schools for the children who are the future of our planet. WHAT WILL WE LEAVE FOR OUR CHILDREN?

The project is split in 8 parts allong the World Coast:• Mediterranean Sea (completed in 2015)• South, Central and North America• Europe• Africa• Asia• Oceania

1st stage – Mediterranean Sea (by bike)The first stage was inthe MediterraneanCoast in 2015 whereI cycled almost 16.000 kilometersgoing through 13countries andspeaking to over 2.500 people aboutthe project and theplastic and trashproblems around theworld.

2nd stage – Brazil to the Caribbean (Pedal Boat)

The 2nd stage of the project willbe the coast of South and CentralAmerica by the Atlantic Oceanside on a trip from Brazil to theCaribbean in a Pedal Boat.Covering more than 25,000 km,going through over 25 countriesand islands.

The pedal boat will be built withthe "engine" adapted with a bikepedal connected to a propeller.

The boat will be called "Praia Limpa" that means Clean Beach.

Just on Brazillian coast will bemore than 100 cities visited allongthe coast.

How the project started...

The idea to start the project began in July 2014. While Guilherme was working as a Software Engineer at IBM, he did a cycling trip in northeastern Brazil, where he witnessed the problems with garbage and plastic allong the coast and the lack of awareness of the people. During the trip Guilherme made a visit to the TAMAR project, and he got shocked to know that in a study done in 2008, 80% of turtles found dead on the coast of Brazil had some plastic in the stomach. He also visited the Morro de São Paulo island in Bahia, where he began working as a volunteer in a social and ecological project working with children teaching them about recycling, reuse of waste, developing toys with recycled material and presenting the problems about trash and plastic bring for us and especially for nature.

During this period Guilherme decided to start the project World Coast Journey for the Preservation of the Seas.

Do you know that...

1. Every year DIE 1 million seabirds like pelicans, albatrosses and penguins by ingestion ofgarbage and plastic. In Hawaii, for example, 87% of the mapped birds had plastic in thestomach.

2. Every year 100,000 marine animals DIE like turtles, fish, whales, sharks and dolphins byingestion of garbage and plastic.

3. The natural food of sea turtles are the jellyfish. But wih the similarity they get confusedand eat plastic bags causing blockages in the digestive system and eventually die.

4. 8 million tons of plastic go into the oceans every year. [CSIR - Commonwealth Scientificand Industrial Research Organisation – Australia >> http://theconversation.com/eight-million-tonnes-of-plastic-are-going-into-the-ocean-each-year-37521]

5. A study made in 2014 estimated that more than 5 trillion plastic pieces are in our oceans, weighing over 250,000 tons. [Public Library of Science ONE -http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0111913]

6. There are 5 plastic islands in the middle of the oceans, which are formed by ocean currents. The biggest one is in the North Pacific Ocean and the size can be compared with Spain andPortugal together.

7. The plastic in the oceans become small pieces of plastic, called microplastic, which aresmaller than 5 mm and the fish eat, then we eat the fish, we stay bad and we do notknow why.

8. 80% of plastic bags are used only once.

9. Today we have 1 kilogram of plastic for every 5 kg of fish. If nothing is done by 2025we will have 1 kilogram of plastic to 3 kilos of fish. And in 2050 we will have moreplastic fish in our oceans.

Help us and become a PARTNER or SPONSOR of the project.Let's aware as many people around the world about the trash andespecially the plastic problems in the Beaches and Oceans.
