The global impact of non-communicable diseases(NCDs), which includes CVDs, diabetes, chronic
respiratory diseases and cancers, on the socialand economic development of all United Nations (UN)
countries is enormous.
They are responsible for 60 per cent of deathsworldwide (35 million) and half of these can beattributed to CVD, making it the worlds numberone
killer.
