The “smallest book in the world” The Lord's prayer in 7 languages. Hand bound, printed from hand-set type. Legible only with magnifying glass. Published in Mainz in 1955 for the 500th anniversary of the advent of printing. Text in English, Spanish, German, Dutch, French, and Swedish
The works of William Hogarth, 1822. In “elephant folio” format, this is the largest book in SIU Library Special Collections.
“The most beautiful book in the world” The Kelmscott Press edition of The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer (1896).

Codex Mendoza, ca. 1530 (hand-painted facsimile; limited edition of only 25 in the world) The Mendoza codex is a Mexican pictographic manuscript prepared on the authority of Don Antonio de Mendoza, the first Viceroy of New Spain, for Charles V.A Spanish priest, familiar with the Nahuatl, or Mexican language, was employed to set down in Spanish the explanations of the glyphs as interpreted by the Mexicans themselves.
