World Prematurity Day 2016 In November 2016, we will celebrate the 8 th World Prematurity Day World Prematurity Day is one of the most important days in the year to raise awareness of the challenges and burden of preterm birth globally. The day was initiated by EFCNI and partnering European parent organisations in 2008. Meanwhile, countless individuals and organisations from more than 100 countries join forces with activities, special events and commit to action to help address preterm birth and improve the situation of preterm babies and their families. This year we focus on the vital role that family-centered and developmentally supportive care can play in the delivery of care to the 4500+ infants born prematurely in Ireland each year. 2 Family-centered caregiving acknowledges the family as central to the care of the child and in conjunction with developmentally supportive caregiving strategies, has a greater potential for long-lasting effects when the family is an integral aspect of implementation. We would like to warmly invite you to celebrate with us World Prematurity Day 2016, raising awareness on the global burden of preterm birth and making a difference for preterm infants! Friday 11 th November 2016, from 9.15am The Davenport Hotel, 2 Merrion Street Lower, Dublin 2 In the afternoon following this meeting, the RCPI Faculty of Paediatrics will host the 7 th Irish Neonatal Research Symposium (for healthcare professionals only).
