JAPANESE AMERICAN RELOCATION

• The US turned against Japanese Americans

• ALL people of Japanese decent were viewed as spies

• Executive Order 9066 set up Japanese “internment” camps – Japanese families were relocated for the majority of WWII

• We claimed it was for national security reasons

• 110,000 Japanese people were forced to live in these camps.

KOREMATSU VS. THE US• Korematsu (a Japanese man) sued the US

• The supreme court ruled that the internment camps were illegal because they violated US citizens constitutional rights

ALLIED VICTORY• The Yalta Conference

• After the Allies won in Europe

• The Big 3 (Roosevelt, Stalin, Churchill) met to discuss the fate of Germany and the rest of Europe

• Each occupied by one of the allies

• Blamed the NAZI PARTY for WWII…..Not Germany

NUREMBURG TRIALS• Nuremburg Trials:

• German leaders were tried for crimes against humanity (Holocaust)

• The United Nations, Europe, and the US would put many Nazi leaders on trial

• Sadly, most leaders went unpunished. Only 24 were tried. 3 were acquitted. The rest received 10 years – Death.

• 12 were hanged

UNITED NATIONS• The League of Nations was dismantled because it failed to

prevent WW2

• The United Nations was created!

• 50 countries

• It’s own “peacekeeping” army

• Humanitarian

• Very effective

ZIONISM• Zionism movement begins after WW2

• Zionism is the movement of the Jewish people to find their “own” country
