REMARKS CONCERNING SHOW FLOWERS

To clarify a situation brought about by pres- ent day air transportation facilities and Daffodil blooms being flown in overnight from England, Holland, Ireland and Oregon, we would like to urge that all commercial exhibits be clearly identified with NAME OF GROWER, CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH BLOOMS WERE RAISED, AND NAME OF EXHIBITOR. The latter specification is to cover those who exhibit these imported blooms as having been grown by themselves. These Foreign (to our climate) Exhibits are mostly grown in hot or cool greenhouses, or if in the open, they are protected from the elements by top and side curtains. Consequently, blooms of these slow forced beauties attain a size almost double and a color far superior to the same variety raised out of doors. All blooms we ship or exhibit are grown in our open fields with no protection whatever, our customers can know what to expect from our bulbs and are not sadly disappointed as is so often the case when ordering from green-house grown exhibits, and they continue to win Sweepstakes as well as many Blue Ribbons at the important shows throughout the country. We gladly give the benefit of our experience in assisting to plan orders for show, garden or naturalizing.

THE DAFFODIL MART NUTTALL, GLOUCESTER COUNTY, VIRGINIA

OUR INFORMATIVE CLASSIFIED BLUE LIST

of the

World's Finest Daffodil Bulbs 1957

GEORGE HEATH, the reliable and well known GROWER for over 35 years, herein pre- sents TIM LARGEST LIST AVAILABLE OF DAF- FODILS (Narcissi) TESTED AND ACCLIMATED FOR GROWING IN THIS COUNTRY—all guaran- teed TRUE TO NAME.

FIFTY or more of these are. NEW VARI- ETIES with us and are in Capitol Letters. Over 80 MINIATURES or Rockery types are included and are designated by their height in inches after the name. (See for example Alice Knight, 10".) Anyone interested in NATURALIZING varieties will, upon request, be quoted on bushel and bushel lots of types proven suitable for this pur- pose. We are in touch with other Daffodil Growers throughout the World and will gladly quote prices and obtain any bulbs we do not list, provided inquiries are received before August.

MID-SEPTEMBER, when we start shipping is after the State Entomologists have completed their fall inspection and certified all bulbs to be free from disease, it also is the beginning of cooler weather with us and safe then to ship as bulbs do not travel well in hot weather.

SPRINGTIME, while the blooms are fresh in your mind, is the best time to order and safe- guards you from the disappointment of "sell outs" on many of the newer novelties later In the season. From about Mid-March through Mid- April we can offer you our absolutely unique "Living Catalogues" (see page 11) from which to make your selections. Our farm, about five miles from Gloucester and only 25 miles from Williams- burg, is open to those interested in seeing the blooms in the open fields. We also suggest that you attend one or more of the many Shows in which we plan to Exhibit this Spring, some of which are listed on page 10.

DON'T DELAY ordering for best results your bulbs should be planted early and ours MUST be planted by November. As a rule orders are

shipped in the order in which they are received although we generally hold those to the deep south for later shipment when the soil there has gotten cool enough to plant safely while those for the far north go out as early as possible. Laggards lose out as many of the newer novelties sell out early in the season, and they also miss out on thein- teresting BULB discounts we give on orders received before August first.

DAFFODIL BLOOMS, available this Spring are listed in detail on. Page 12 and are increasingly in demand, especially our Specimen Exhibitis, therefore with limited time and help at our hands we must first serve the first-comers and only hope we can fill all these orders.

DAFFODILS ON PARADE AND BUSHEL BARGAINS, a small descriptive list is published in July after digging and sorting our bulbs and in- cludes those varieties dug as well as a list of surplus stocks which we are able to offer at a great discount in bushel lots. Included too are varied Collections for Beginners as well as for Seasoned Growers and Exhibitors, also a most compre- hensive list of Naturalizing varieties at reduced rates. This little catalogue will be sent to all of our regular customers as well as to those who have requested our Spring list. If, however, you are in neither category, please write us and we will be happy to send you one.

PRICES, as listed are per bulb and are for top sized, double-nosed bulbs. Do not be led astray by the multitiudes of CHEAP offers which are in- variably for small, inferior bulbs. On quantity purchases, allow the following discounts; 12 bulbs of a variety for the price of 10; 50 bulbs of a variety for the price of 40; and 100 bulbs of a variety for the price of 70. Write for quotations on larger quantities. In this unique business where the price of bulbs continues to go down while the cost of labor, shipping materials and transportation, as well as Parcel Post soars higher daily, we find it imperative to make a charge of 500 East of the Mississippi; I. West, to help defray such expenses. Check with order, please, or if desired, they will be sent C.O.D.

OUR INFORMATIVE CLASSIFICATION is printed on the opposite page and is an effort to further clarify that of the Royal Horticultural Society of London. Following this carefully, we believe that those really interested can form an accurate picture of the bloom. For example; 2a-1 ATTATURK .40, is a large cupped Narcissi with a banded or orange-red cup and yellow petals, is priced at 400 and is new with us this year.

NOVELTY BOXES

Due to increasingly poor Parcel Post service, we have for the past several years, insured our famous Novelty Boxes of Fresh Blooms against delay in delivery, thus protecting our customers as well as ourselves from loss due to the delay factor. However, to avoid the disappointment of boxes not arriving at a specified time—particularly with the week-end and holiday laxity of the mails

we ask that you allow us to ship at our discre- tion and not for arrival at any stipulated time. Then we also reserve the right to ship those to distant or hard to reach points via AIR MAIL and bill you for the extra cost of same. The 12 dozen (144) blooms of 12 different and unusual varieties are picked in our fields one day and shipped Special Delivery, should reach you the next, in all their pristine glory.
