Web Dashboard Items

Dashboards are made up of folders, pages, and parts. Parts are the pieces actually contain/display information about your database. The folders and pages are for organization and security.

Some dashboard parts are “standalone” and some require “context” or need to be connected to another part.

Context = we need to specify which record we want to see information for. In a Revenue History Data List, we need to specify which constituent record we want to see the list for. The constituent record we name is the context.

o Context record type is set up when we add a page.o We can then change the context record itself by searching and selecting a new one

(different constituents, etc.) “Provider” parts send data to other parts. “Consumer” parts receive data from other parts.

They are connected in Edit mode, by the blue and yellow flashing lights. o If you try to set up a “Provider” part without a corresponding “Consumer,” no data will

display except the name of the part.o If you try to set up a “Consumer” part without a corresponding “Provider” part, you’ll

see an error message.o Scroll over the blue and yellow lights to see if a part is connected or not, and if it’s

sending or receiving information.

1. Constituent Parts: Constituent Contact Information Constituent Cumulative Giving Summary Constituent Picture

These parts all require a context record type of “Constituent.”

2. Data List Parts: Data List Data List Chart Data List Ticker

Some require context and some do not. Often, you’ll be able to figure out what the context record type should be based on the datalist (ex: to see the Correspondence Process Status List, you’ll need to set up a context record of Correspondence Process for the page, and then select the process you’d like to track the status for.)

**We can use OOB data lists, or we can create our own in query and use those!**

Data List Chart: o Category field = X axiso Series field = Y axiso both have to be numerical values in order for the chart to make senseo EX: Correspondence process– we can see how many ppl are mailed to each time the

process is run!

Data List Ticker:

3. Date Parts Calendar Date Picker – allows you to select a specific date that you’d like to see KPI values for.

Page 3: World's Leading Software Company Powering …€¦ · Web viewThe KPI Chart shows a graph of the KPI values over time, and the KPI Date Range allows you to tweak the range of dates

Date Offset – an alternate way to select what dates you’d like to see KPI values for. Instead of naming a specific date, you can choose to do a certain amount of time before or after the current date. This makes it easier to see what the value was 100 days ago, or 50 days ago, without counting backwards to figure out what date that was.

Example:1. Create a new KPI – Total Revenue Record Money in Selection.2. Set your goals, and whatever selection of records you want to see.3. Save and run the KPI.4. Go to your Web Dashboard, and add a new page. 5. On the page, go to Edit mode and add a new part – KPI Data Provider. 6. Select the KPI instance created in step 3. 7. Add a second part – KPI Numeric Ticker. 8. Link the two parts so that the data provider part is sending data to the ticker (this gives the

ticker something to display). Note that by default, it displays the value for the current date.9. Add a Calendar Date Picker Part.10. Link the calendar date picker to the KPI Numeric Ticker, so that we’re sending the selected date

to the ticker and telling it what date to display information for. Note that we can change our calendar date to whatever we’d like, and the ticker will update appropriately.

11. Return to Edit mode, and add a Date offset calendar part.12. Unlink the Calendar date picker from the KPI, and link the Date offset part instead.13. Exit Edit mode and note the difference in results depending on the time frames selected.

4. Embedded Web Content Parts: Embedded Web Content – you can put your own HTML in here to display whatever you want. It

can be static or dynamic. Embedded Web Page – you can insert a link to any website here.

o These can be internal or external links Link Builder – the macros are available as variables you can insert to define later on – such as if

you have an environment with multiple databases to select from. You can put in your link, and just include the database name macro. These allow you to navigate to new locations in the database easily.

5. KPI Parts

KPI Data Provider+

A way to view the data:Chart/Circular Gauge/Thermometer/Numeric Indicator/Ticker

+Date Part OR KPI Date Range (optional)

KPI Data Provider - All KPI parts need a KPI Data Provider. Here, we select an existing KPI that we want to see represented.

KPI ChartKPI Circular GaugeKPI Thermometer These are all ways to visually display the data in your KPI. KPI Numeric IndicatorKPI Ticker

KPI Context Record Data Provider – *Awaiting Feedback from Products* KPI Date Range – to be used in combination with a KPI Data Provider + KPI Chart. The KPI Chart

shows a graph of the KPI values over time, and the KPI Date Range allows you to tweak the range of dates you see your results for. So, you can view the graph for the past 30 days, the past two years, etc.

6. NetCommunity Parts NetCommunity Pages Most Frequently Visited NetCommunity Pages Most Frequently Visited Chart NetCommunity Pages Most Recently Visited

These do not require context; just a connection to your BBNC/BBIS site.

7. OLAP Parts OLAP Report Chart OLAP Report Grid

When we create a report in the OLAP Explorer (in Analysis), we can save that report as an XML file, by clicking this icon:

Then, we can add either OLAP part, and select that OLAP Report Set XML:

The Chart will display the report exactly as you have it set up in the OLAP explorer. The Grid option will display the same data, but in a different format:

OLAP Report Chart OLAP Report Grid

8. Programming Parts :These are standalone parts, they don’t send or provide data.

Daily Admission Sales Tracker – admission tickets sold in “Sales” functional area Today’s Membership Sales Tracker – this is memberships sold via the “Sales” functional area,

not any added manually from a record. Total Members Tracker – this is a count of the number of memberships in the database (if a

constituent has 3 memberships, they will be counted 3 times, not once) Total Ticket Revenue Tracker – shows all revenue brought in in the “Sales” functional area

9. Miscellaneous Parts Numeric Indicator- best to use with KPI parts to display their calculated values
