21 Twinkle Toes Walking across a balance beam is tough. Walking

across a balance beam over a freezing lake is

tougher.

Sat down and scooted my happy ass across this one -

no way was I going to risk going back in the water

unless I had to. After completing this, event staff

pushed me into a med tent because I was violently

shaking. This is where I first witnessed another

competitor go into shock.

22 Trench Warfare Dark, cold tunnels burrowing deep into the

ground. Beware, there may a few unfriendlysurprises lurking inside.

Flashbacks hit me just thinking about it. A tired routine

by now: lots of crawling on one's stomach through mud,water, and barbed wire. Some climbing. Fortunately, no

mustard gas.

23 Hangin' Tough Straight from the Tough Mudder playground,

these rings are not quite the ones you remember

from your childhood.

I so rocked this event. While others swam under me

after falling into the icy water, I swung from ring to ring

like Wolf from American Gladiators and made it to the

2nd platform reserved for champions.

24 The Factory Climb up the back of this colossal structure and

then be prepared for the leap of faith.

It's not the fact you have to climb a 20 foot rope that

makes this awful, it's that at the top there's a slide thatgoes straight down, with a black tarp hiding what awaits

you at the bottom. Of course, by now you already know

what the surprise is anyway - another fucking hole full

of freezing water

25 Rubbernecking Grab a tire and head for a lap around the track. This is a lie. It's two tires tied together. One tire would

be fine. Two tires would be normally fine - put an arm

through each one and take off. However, in the 'we're

gonna be dicks and tie'em together version,' you have

to carry both tires tied together around a 1/4 mile track.

26 Tired Yet Better get your knees up and place your feet

carefully or you'll be going down as you traverse

this tire field.

Everyone's done the high knee workout where you

have to run through tires. It becomes more interesting

when the tire types used are random, and alternate

between car, race car, and tractor over 50 yards.

27 Berlin Walls #2 Show team spirit and camaraderie as you work

with other Mudders to get over this series of

walls.

3 more of those goddamn 8 foot walls. Where's David

Hasselhoff when you need him?

28 Bale Bonds Scale this mountainous stack of bales and try not

to tumble down the other side.

This event was legitimately fun. Lots of climbing over

double-stacked round bales. I sprinted through this,

gleefully reliving my childhood. 2 minutes later, the pain

of reality returned...

29 High Steppin' Hurdles aren't that bad when you can get a

running start at each one. Try them in a long

series just mere feet apart.

Not even James Carter could navigate these efficiently.

Once again my long legs win, as I was just tall enough

to swing my legs up and over them the hurdles.

30 The Meat

Locker

Swinging tires. Greased floors. Strobe lights.

Dense fog. Good luck!

More psychological warfare. Heading into a darkened

trailer with no idea what's happening, you're suddenly

hit with strobe lights and fog. Then a tire hits you in the

face. Noticing a second one swinging your direction,you move to dodge it on a waxed floor and fall on your

ass. Stand back up and repeat until you find the exit.
