ALE DEMONSTRATES HEAVY TRANSPORT CAPABILITIES WITH CONAE SATELLITE DELIVERY, ARGENTINA SECTOR: » Civils KEY BENEFITS: » Multi-service capabilities » Heavy transport expertise » Delivered on schedule » Co-ordination with third parties PROJECT: ALE demonstrated its excellent standards and capabilities by performing the lifting and transportation of an Argentine satellite, SAOCOM 1A, for CONAE, to be launched in a Space-X rocket. ALE transported the satellite, weighing 12t, from its fabrication yard to Bariloche airport where it was loaded into an Antonov plane, ready to be launched at Vandenberg air field. Using their long-standing experience, ALE worked with the most stringent risk management and quality control requirements throughout. The transport operations required a complete shut-down of the 10km route, as well as civilian, Police and military escorts at 4am. The heavy transport solution involved a convoy of over 12 vehicles, requiring four semi-trailers and two trailers to carry this challenging load. The cargo was delivered with minimum accelerations, as well as controlled temperature and moisture conditions. Cooperation with the airplane’s crew was critical to deliver on schedule and the Volga-Dnerp Antonov airplane was waiting on arrival. The lifting operations were planned carefully in accordance with the client’s standards and ALE lifted the satellite onto the skidding system, where it was skidded into the airplane. “The client was fully satisfied with our logistics solution and acknowledged our professionalism throughout the project. This is a huge milestone in the country´s space programme development and we are proud that ALE has successfully been part of it,” commented Raul Anriquez, ALE’s Project Manager Once the rocket is launched, ALE will then perform the heavy transport of ancillary equipment within the USA and perform the maritime transportation of remaining components back to Chile and overland to Argentina. BRIDGE CAPACITY INCREASED USING MULTIPLE INSTALLATION TECHNIQUES IN COSTA RICA SECTOR: » Civil KEY BENEFITS: » Multiple installation techniques » Coordination with several project teams » Eased congestion PROJECT: In San José, Costa Rica, to double the capacity of the existing bridge from two lanes to four, ease congestion and increase the capacity of a section of the highway, ALE has used its multiple installation techniques to install a bridge over the Virilla River. As the widening of the bridge also necessitated the adaption of the water drainage works and the installation of numerous auxiliary structures, ALE needed to work closely with the client to maintain a high level of co-ordination. This ensured the site was prepared for ALE’s stage of the project and equipment could be installed. ALE first tilted down one of the piles, weighing 90t, using two strand jacks units of 70t capacity. Both units were mounted on a frame to support the pile of the bridge. The strand jacks were used to manoeuvre the pile until it reached the correct position. Following this, ALE skidded the deck, weighing 200t, using 90t, 150t and 300t skid shoes. ALE skidded the deck, transferring the load along the abutment and supporting structure. ALE then jacked-down the pile and deck onto the bridge’s supports. Once in position, the client welded the pile to the lower surface of the deck. This was repeated for the opposite pile and deck with ALE completing the overall project in two months.

GARAYALDE WIND FARM PROJECT, ARGENTINA SECTOR: » Renewables – Wind

PROJECT: ALE has successfully completed the electro-mechanical installation of seven wind turbine generators (WTGs) for the Garayalde wind farm, Argentina.

ALE worked with the crane team to implement the mechanical works and the assembly of the components by their global electro-mechanical installation team.

ALE’s electro-mechanical installation team, comprised of fully-trained installation specialists, performed the activities using very specialised wind turbine installation tooling, which were used for the first time in Argentina and deployed especially for this project.

ALE then performed the electrical works and handed over the turbines fully assembled to the client.

This was the first time ALE had performed this installation scope in Argentina and the operation was completed successfully because of the team’s flexibility, local expertise, specialist installation knowledge and equipment.

The team collaboration between many nationalities, such as South African, Argentine, Spanish and Brazilian, demonstrated their operational flexibility, global management and specialist wind capabilities for this market.

EFFICIENT TRANSPORTATION OF CONTAINER CRANES ENSURES SWIFT OPERATION IN CHILE SECTOR: » Ports

PROJECT: ALE has utilised its engineering expertise to minimise disruption while completing the cost-effective transportation of two container cranes, weighing 1,327t each, at the Terminal Pacífico Sur in Valparaíso, Chile.

Mobilisation costs on the operation were reduced as ALE was able to draw on local equipment, showcasing their flexibility by using stools and mats to adapt the equipment to the transportation’s requirements.

ALE completed the manoeuvres using 48 axle lines of SPMT with two transport beams mounted on them.

As the Terminal Pacífico Sur is such a busy port, it was crucial to keep disruptions to a minimal. ALE’s experience in similar operations enabled them to transport the first crane 300m in four hours, followed by the 600m transportation of the second crane in just 1.5 hours.
