Page 2: WORLE PROSPECTUS

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our school.Worle Community School has been recognised as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted for the care and guidance of its students. We are committed to promoting inclusion so that the talents and strengths of every individual are nurtured and celebrated; where physical and emotional well-being are attended to; where every child really does matter.

Learning is the key focus and we strive to create an environment in which your child will be challenged and supported to realise their potential. We offer an “outstanding” curriculum (Ofsted), which is personalised to the needs of the individual and supports the demands and expectations of the twenty-first century for living in a world that is rapidly changing.

We also recognise the need to broaden our students’ emotional and multicultural awareness; to value and reward success and to balance the need for hard work with a sense of enjoyment for school life as a whole.

The pages of this prospectus provide a glimpse of what we offer and the values that we hold. I hope that you will be encouraged to visit us and judge for yourself on the quality of the messages it contains.

I look forward to meeting and working with you.

I could not have wished for a better choice of school for my son. He has been happy and made good friends - everyone has been so helpful.

At Worle Community School we seek to enable our students to become happy, knowledgeable and caring young people who gain confidence in learning and who strive to reach their full potential.

We aim to provide a diverse and enriching curriculum that promotes motivation, excellence, a consideration for others and an enjoyment in learning that will encourage your child to continue with lifelong learning.

We encourage all our students to engage in our Media Arts specialism and to make full use of the resources and facilities available, building on our links with partner schools.

Above all, we wish to see our students become independent and self-sufficient citizens who will succeed and contribute responsibly as members of a global community.

VISION

4

Page 5: WORLE PROSPECTUS

We agonised over our choice of school but would have to say Worle School is a place where young people are nurtured and actively supported in their development, not merely educated.

5

Page 6: WORLE PROSPECTUS

We are committed to knowing every child and to recognising individual potential so that we can support and encourage them in planning for their future.

Developing good relationships with our learners is key to building an ethos where respect for all is a valued characteristic; where self-discipline contributes to the safe environment and where mutual support for others is recognised as a valuable life skill.

Mentoring supports high aspirations, setting ambitious targets that are monitored throughout the year. This provides opportunities for the mentor to get to know your child and to act as a single point of contact throughout his or her time at Worle.

We provide a range of leadership opportunities for students to take responsibility for the welfare of other students and complement this with aspects of healthy life styles that have an impact on the lives of young people. By working together for the benefit of the students we aim to ensure that the care and guidance given continues to be excellent.

We have a range of professional support staff who are highly trained to deal with a broad range of challenges that young people may experience as they grow and mature.

We are a school that values partnership with parents and there are regular opportunities to discuss all aspects of your child’s development.

LEARNING

WORLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL PROSPECTUS

We wish to share our passion for learning with you, your child and the wider community to develop a love of learning that continues throughout everyone’s lives. Our students are provided with opportunities to become explorers, discoverers and masters of their learning - using imagination to help them succeed.

Our high quality staff aim to provide learning experiences that interest, challenge and stretch all our students so they develop a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge. Lessons are designed to develop both skills and learning. A variety of opportunities

are provided for your child to work collaboratively and individually, exploring, researching and presenting their learning in areas of the curriculum and beyond so that they can develop and make progress towards fulfilling their potential.

All students are entered for public exams and all achievements will be celebrated. Your child will be provided with support at the time of public examinations to enable him or her to achieve the highest possible results. By providing these opportunities we aim to motivate and enthuse our students to reach the highest levels.

In our school everyone works together to build a community where students and staff co-operate for the benefit of all; where everyone is valued and where respect and kindness are key ingredients in school life.

We have strong links with partner schools, encouraging inclusion and aiding the transition from primary to secondary school. We have forged partnerships with local artists and businesses to enrich the curriculum; to provide diversity and challenge; to broaden learning experiences for the whole school community.

We actively encourage community and family learning and make full use of our Apple Regional Training status to provide a modern well-equipped IT facility that is used throughout the year.

We seek to broaden horizons with international links and cultural experiences with visits and projects involving as many students as possible. Through the ‘WWtrust’ we link with the University of the West of England to enable students to benefit from Further Education facilities and expertise and have access to the latest developments in learning and emotional health practice.

PARTNERSHIP

10

Page 11: WORLE PROSPECTUS

Worle School has consistently exuded a calm, purposeful and welcoming atmosphere that has helped our daughter flourish and staff at all levels seem to work seamlessly together to achieve this.

11

Page 12: WORLE PROSPECTUS

Excellence means different things to different people and your child will be encouraged to be successful in their own way. Students are encouraged to achieve their best in all aspects of school life, whether that is sporting, academic, musical or artistic and where those achievements are celebrated.

Our students are given opportunities to develop their talents in taking on responsibilities in roles such as Head’s Ambassadors or Buddies, who support new students, or as members of the Year and

School Council. Some students have become members of Weston Youth Parliament. Some have entered, and won public speaking competitions and the Enterprise 4U competition.

However, for us the greatest success lies in our ability to help your child develop into a balanced, resilient individual who is well equipped to deal with the wider world.

EXCELLENCE

12

Page 13: WORLE PROSPECTUS

I would like to say how impressed I was with all the students that I met last night. Without exception, I found them to be very polite, well mannered and articulate. You should be very proud of them all!

13

Page 14: WORLE PROSPECTUS

A broad range of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom enable us to create an atmosphere where your child can channel their enthusiasm; build on existing strengths and rise to the challenges in a creative and stimulating way.

We run activities during the school day and after school for everyone and complement this with a full programme of events during our Curriculum Enrichment week.

Students can engage in activities to broaden skills ranging from Aikido to sailing, caving to surfing.

There are opportunities for foreign visits to understand more about our history and European government; visits to outward-bound centres to develop self-esteem and to universities to raise aspirations.

We believe that as a school we will become more effective by forging strong links with the community we serve. We encourage participation in a wide range of events, sharing learning and giving support that is accessible to all.

We aim to use our Media Arts specialism to raise engagement in lifelong learning skills, to share this knowledge with a wider audience and engage with business in providing them with the expertise of our staff and students. We strive to be a centre of excellence for the

Arts, one that provides high quality training and resources that can be seen as part of the fabric of the local community.

Our partnership work with the business sector and community groups has engaged Worle students in exciting new learning opportunities enabling them to broaden their experiences and take responsibility for projects which have a real and positive impact on the community
